The Truth Behind the Betrayer

Brunhyldir stands at the center cross in Al'khazar, his mind pondering how he should reveal his true intentions. Many humans are bustling in and out of the city, gathering supplies, claiming rewards, and spreading rumors. Brunhyldir finally raises his arms, and all of the beings around him stop. They all look at him, wondering why there is a crazy hooded figure in Al'khazar.

"Brothers," Brunhyldir cries, "with the absence of the Master Sage and his companions, I feel it is now time to show you who I really am, and what I really stand for."

Brunhyldir takes off his bedraggled hood to reveal his regular, orcish face. Many still stand there, waiting for him to say something; others, who know that face, stand in awe.

"I am Brunhyldir. I am the one who betrayed the Ascended."

All of the creatures -- Humans, Dwarves, and Elves alike -- gasped. Some did not know who this Brunhyldir was, but for him to betray the Ascended was still an evil crime. Some, who did know him, felt immediate rancor, and several of them even went to call guards.

"Do not be alarmed. Why would an 'Undead' be standing in the middle of the Oren City, asking to be arrested. That is not why I am here."

Everyone was confused. Those who thought they knew Brunhyldir knew his evil story: how he had joined the Ascended as the first orc and became an Acolyte, but then in a major battle against the Undead, he nearly killed Master Sage Riizu in an effort to prove himself to Overlord Tyrion. He succeeded, and joined the Undead by the alias of "The Betrayer."

Some guards started rushing to the orc, with handcuffs in hand.

"Some of you may have already heard," Brunhyldir said, looking at an awfully dark orc looking at Brunhyldir attentively, "but I would like to stand officially my standing. I am not a betrayer."

Now the people in Oren were very, very confused. Except for the choice few that knew the real Brunhyldir, of course.

"That battle, where I "hurt" Riizu; it was staged. Riizu and I had plotted earlier the previous day a great but tricky plan. I would pretend to injure him, so that Overlord Tyrion would have not choice but to invite me into the Undead. This plan worked.

"But, unreavealed to all but the Sages and me, I was secretly a double agent -- for the Ascended. I was magically disguised as an Undead, and was throwing information about the Undeads battle plans, strategies, and weaknesses to the Sages. While all of you were thinking I had become the newest member of the darkest order, I was really an older member of the highest cavalry."

Many humans in the city denied this. They started whispering, "He's lying! No way we can trust someone who was in the Undead, and let alone disappeared without a trace for almost a year!" Very few even believed him. Vardak, being one of them, did. He kept quiet however.

The guards who were going to arrest Brunhyldir now stood at his side and let him continue.

"That is my message to all of Aegis. Now that the Sages are leaving, Riizu has asked me to come out of my disguise, and take trials to rejoin the Ascended. If you do not believe me," Brunhyldir paused, " you can ask the Wandering Wizard, or Sage Oko, yourself. Thank you for listening," he cried as the guards attemped to take him to the jail.

Luckily, he managed to negotiate his way out of a prison sentence. As Brunhyldir now roams the Kings Road, he writes letters of "The Truth" (as he calls it), and leaves them sitting on the ground. Eventually, this news will be spread around as many Aegians find these letters, and the people in Al'khazar that day spread the rumor.

((Basically saying you can see/respond to this post even if your character wasn't in Al'khazar that day, and it's RPable by anyone))

The humans (and several other creatures) stood there, silent. This was very good news. Or was it really the truth? They said:

((If you have a reply, please post your characters feeling on the subject IC.))

I would have told many that you were not who they thought you to be, but I thought you would have done this better my friend. I was not disappointed, you have explained yourself enough for everyone in aegis to understand. I hope word travels quickly, and I shall spread the word as well for you friend.

Carefully looking from the side of his sight at the situation standing against a wall eating some bread he just chuckles to himself a bit and walks away to a different position to get a better view of the situation. Felling neither distrust or trust towards the betrayer. The idea made sense, but he could easily be lying. Along with the fact that he was near the undead, so the taint had to be deep rooted in his being. So even if he was telling the truth, who says that taint just goes. He continues to watch the situation to see how it ends.

As Pok is creeping through the sewers hunting for something her hears the word "Betrayer" and pops out of the sewers from near the Cross.

He quickly remembers that battle being told to him by his grandfather, Sornof. He quickly begins to record this in his journal and draws a tiny portrait of the man. He then pulls out his stave and casts a spell. It is a truth spell, taught to him by Elder Shaman Lex. He charmed it to be invisible and casted it at the orc. He was speaking the truth.

He walked away with a grin.

The next morning Pok would leave for his pilgrimage to rid himself of his demon.

*William looks suspiciously at the Orc who has the unfortunate title of "the betrayer".*

I have never been particularly fond of orcs. However during my time in this country I have fought beside many valiant warriors many of which were orcs. I have grown fond of many particular orcs but there have been some that have stopped me from renewing my outlook on the orcish race in general. You being one of them. This is not to say I am not glad there is another ascended fighting among us. It's only the fact that you have affiliated with the undead that makes me weary of you. Only time will tell, I look forward to fighting beside you.

*And so he continued his walk back to the Cloud Temple to speak with some of the monks, all the while chuckling and muttering about how the truth is the hardest to believe.*
