The Tordove Family

A story of curses and betrayal...

The family's origins are of an island, off the coasts of Axios. The name of this island was Fhaluna.

Of Fhaluna

Fhaluna was a group of islands off the coast of Axios, on which two towns stood. Ellsshara and Olloin. Ellsshara was ruled by a noble family named the Lorawynn. Olloin, on the other hand, was ruled by the Eladan, whose history was preserved until the ends of Almaris (I'll get back to this).

The southern island was a large forest, owned by the Lorawynn (as stated above). Not much is told of this land, it was mostly used for it's resources.

The eastern island was a somewhat barren land, made up of plains and a desert. Ellsshara stood upon this land, in the desert.
The western island held Olloin, the port town of the islands. This island was of the utmost importance to the Eladan, for the port was their main source of income.

Of the Eladan

The Eladan were a most noble people. Money was not of concern for them, and they spent it quite liberally, often taking trips and holding banquets. There isn't a lot that can be said about them that doesn't waste time, as they lived an uneventful life on the isles. They were a most noble people, their elders having direct ties to Malin himself, and this nobility of theirs were reflected in their lavish lifestyles. They held banquets and parties like no others, and cared not for knowledge or magic. Their influence of the ports were the cause of lots of conflict between the two noble families.

Of the Lorawynn

The Lorawynn were a family of High Elven sorcerers and scholars. They had traditions of their own, which matter not these days, and their culture was lost in time, but they were most influential on two of the three islands. They owned the eastern and southern islands, whither they let none but the most trusted of the 'aheral.

The banquet

In 1585, a banquet was held by the Eladan to forget the woes of the year, and they invited the Lorawynn too. The Lorawynn did not accept the invitation as a family, rather they sent the three youngest lads. Nieven Lorawynn, Ascal Lorawynn, and Elion Lorawynn were their names, and all three were in their twenty and first year. They were mostly only sent to tend to a conflict between the two families regarding the taxes put on books and paper by the Eladan. Nieven showed up in formal clothes, and so did Elion, but Ascal was late. The two who showed up on time got straight to business, not looking for a party or celebration of any kind, and they asked to see the head of the Eladan family, Aimar Eladan. Aimar was a respectful and well-mannered person, unlike the rest of his family.

He led the two up to what appeared to be a dining room. There sat at the end of the table three elders, whose name were not noted, and an empty seat. Aimar took his seat at the end of the table next to the three elders, and motioned for the Lorawynns to do the same.

They discussed the issues, which was not of much importance, and so was not noted either. Nieven and Elion left then the banquet and headed home, and they met Ascal at the gates of the city. He was not dressed accordingly, wearing his usual outfit, and appeared to have just woken up. They exchanged greetings, and the two more formal left then, for they had an important task, delivering the news of the meeting to their own elders.

Ascal entered the banquet, and went up to Aimar, who was at this point still at the gates. He respectfully bowed, and the Eladan welcomed him inside. Now, it matters not how, but Ascal ended up dancing with the grand-daughter of Aimar, Alasse Eladan. Alasse was, like her grandfather, more formal than the rest of her family. She was fairer though than any of the Eladan, fairest lady on those three isles. Now, Ascal cared not for his family traditions, nor the elders, and neither did Alasse, and so they got on quite well. They got on so well, in fact, that just two years later, they got married, uniting for the first time the two noble families.

The elders of both families disapproved of this marriage, and they gave not their blessing, but cursed the pair.

"This unholy union shall curse your descendants for life. May they rest never in peace and love, but in hopeless despair."

And so it was from then on, for generations to come.

Now, the pair was officially disowned by their families after the marriage, and they took up the name Tordove.

Of the Tordove

Tordove meant 'The cursed' in the long-lost language of the Fhalunians. The names of all the descendants of Alasse and Ascal were not held in account, but there were many, and the family grew large. The Tordoves left the islands of Fhaluna, and migrated to Atlas with the rest of the descendants, and left the two noble houses forever behind them, for they followed not, and stayed on the islands.

Now, the Tordoves prospered over the years, working as scholars, bards and guards, and whatever job they could find, but they always found an interest in creating trinkets. Rings, necklaces, jewelry and so on. These trinkets usually had some kind of connection to the family, and they sold them not, rather they were passed on as heirlooms, until the betrayal of 65 SA.

Of the Betrayal

The betrayal of 65 SA, also known simply as the betrayal was a major event in the history of the Tordoves. It is important now to introduce 4 characters. First, there's Mariona Tordove, daughter of Alwin Orira, a peasant, and Thalanil Tordove, son of Eldar Tordove. These two met right after the migration to Almaris, and soon after they got married. In the year 60 of the second age, they had a kid named Talinn Tordove. Talinn was a sweet little boy with ginger hair, and he was always trying to be helpful and good. Now, it has to be told that Talinn was, as most would say, a good kid for the most part. On the 11th of Snow's Maiden 65 SA, Thalanil Tordove got very drunk, having recently lost 300 minae in a card game, and him, Mariona, and Talinn got into an argument. Talinn was mostly silent, only responding when directly addressed, but Mariona was screaming and shouting at Thalanil. Talinn was scared and intimidated, but tried his best to calm himself.

Thalanil, after about an hour of yelling, went upstairs, grabbed two rings that were passed down from Ascal himself, and threw them into the fire. Talinn, knowing how much it meant to the family, grabbed for them, and burned his hand, though he managed to get them out of there and into his pocket. Mariona was worried for Talinn, but Thalanil was furious. He yelled at Talinn, a five year old boy, to leave the house and come back never again. Mariona, having endured years and years of abuse and terror, did not stop Talinn, and the boy had to leave.

The boy ventured along the roads to the then Kingdom of Elysium, and met his a woman named Evelyn, but not much more is told of Talinn and his new family, even though many things happened after.

Thalanil Tordove forsake his name and family, and disowned the name of Tordove, taking up the new name of Uladove, meaning 'The betrayer', and stricken with fear, Mariona followed his husband in this most unholy act. After around 40 or so years, this couple had another boy named Rolim, and fate led this boy to end up on the side of the road, in a box, where he was found by a farmer, and not much more is told of this boy in the books of the history of this family.

Now, it is important to note that, were it not for Talinn, the Tordoves would've been lost to history. Today, Talinn Tordove, steward of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, teacher at the Vailu Valmiran keeps the books of the family history, and lets none but his family see them.

Spoiler

OOC part!

Purpose: To give a bit of clarification on the backstory of my character, and to enhance roleplay.

This is not public knowledge, and is only known to characters who read the books or were told these stories by Talinn Tordove, played by myself. Any RP involving this story is considered metagaming unless your character has been explicitly told in RP on the server, or found the book mechanically. The islands of Fhaluna are not public knowledge either.

Thanks for reading this silly little piece of lore of my character's family, I've actually played this character since he was 5!

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated in the comments!
Also, if anyone is interested in making a character related to this family, feel free to message me on discord at Markisstreaming#9639
