The Price of Knowledge

Alone, in a darkened attic, contemplated a 'Ker, bottles of red wine both empty and full decorating the room. Was this what was to become of her? A saddened, blinded elfess with too high of a fondness for drink? No, thought she. This was not what she was promised after all. It had been some time since she had given away her sight. At first, it was easy, with the promises of conversing with the stars themselves! Knowledge the average descendant could only hope for!

 

But as weeks turned into months and months turned into years, the hardships of her disability began eating away at her. She endured, still adamant as ever. Or used to, at least, until this fateful day as she tarried about, marking and mapping around the forest surrounding her home as had become her habit. 

 

Alas, as fate would have it, suddenly came the sound of loose gravel groaning, rocks falling, an elf screaming–

 

As the dust finally settled, the young ‘Ker herself let out a groan, feeling herself up for injuries after her tumble. Aside from minor scrapes and bruises she was fine, though she would now have a larger problem at hand.. 

Blinded and lost, the figure tried to get a sense of her surroundings, to no avail. She heard nothing aside from sounds of running water and her own cursing at her fate. She was growing more desperate and prayed to any deity or spirit to give her sight back, even if only for a moment, so that she could escape.

 

For days she starved there in that cave, her spirit nearly broken, her body pained from hunger and near freezing. Her eyes slowly crept to a close, her mind wandering into the void. There, upon the passageway between night and day, in the back of her mind came a high utterance, urging for the elfess to cover her eyes.
