Two tribes engaging in a lively discussion on current matters.

ÖHNE UND TÖCHTER VON REINMAR,

 

IT IS IN THAT VERY BLOOD THAT FLOWS THROUGH OUR VEINS, that we, sons and daughters of Reinmar, cherish the art of discussion. Such is our heritage, a steadfast tradition wherein all matters—be they great or small—are brought before the Tribe to be discussed and resolved with reason and honor. It is this sacred custom that guides the Moot, where the gravest concerns of our people are presented to the Chieftains and settled with dignity by the Lawspeaker’s hand.

Yet, even the lesser disputes and quandaries of daily life merit attention, for they, too, bind the fabric of our kinship. What better way to address these than in fellowship with your brethren? Let any personal or theoretical dilemmas be brought forth to me, the Princess of Minitz, or sent by letter, that they may, from this point onwards, find clarity and resolution in the Debattenzirkel, our Debate Circle.

For in this, we honor not only our love of discourse but the unity of the Tribe itself.

RULES OF THE DEBATTENZIRKEL

 

✥ On the duties of the Debate Master:

 

I. The Debate Master holds ultimate authority over all matters pertaining to the debate, including determining the victorious team.
II. The Debate Master shall highlight any inconsistencies or flaws in the arguments of the participants.
III. To aid in this duty, the Debate Master may appoint two Debate Aides.

✥ On the organization of the Groups:

IV. Participants shall be divided into two groups.
V. Each group must elect a Leader from among its members to serve as their representative.
VI. One Leader shall draw straws. A long straw designates their team as the Affirmative Group, tasked with arguing in favor of the resolution. A short straw assigns the team as the Negative Group, tasked with opposing the resolution and proposing an alternative to the Debate Master.

VII. Both Groups shall have five measures of the hourglass to confer among themselves and apportion roles. Each Speaker must be assigned only one task—either to deliver the introduction, present a single argument, or provide the closing statement.

✥ On the duration of the Debate:

VIII. At the close of the preparation time, the first Speaker of the Affirmative Group shall deliver their introduction, followed by the first Speaker of the Negative Group. The second Speakers shall then present their arguments in the same order.
IX. Each Speaker shall have one measure of the hourglass to deliver their statement, during which they may respond to the arguments of the preceding Speaker.
