Your take on Medical RP

I feel that interestingly medical rp goes one of two ways. Either the person goes "yeah no you'll heal in a day" or "oh i'll lop it off but dw I'll make you an an animii/atronach/golem one!"

I think also with monks regen there should be the chance certain limbs don't just regrow, certain times (up to player choice) the limb just does not come back. The player sure does not remember why their arm isn't there, and perhaps has some sort of fictitious memory about it "I remember running from wolves, and the next morning I was just laid in a tent somewhere with my arm replaced with this stump."

Having done a lot of medical rp over my time on the sever, ive found the actual rp of it stressful and repetitive despite my best attempts to tie it into my character, their knowledge, and unique beliefs. There is a pressure to do it "right" as it is someone else's character on the line, multiple times ive had people get upset at me on a ooc basis because no, my character cannot heal your smashed leg that is being amputated with the hopes you don't die of infection. This leads to a worry, a want to stray from flavor and character beliefs and time accurate knowledge to save the hassle of facing people who are too rude for their own good.
People also oftentimes take receiving medical help as a get out of jail free card, fixing you of all consequences and if the medic healing you cant then they are "bad at rping it". It has also gotten frustrating seeing nobody give a damm about the effects a procedure would have, immediately running about on a broken leg just set, moving around perfectly fine after heavy stitching, or not being unwell of any sorts- then getting injured 2 minutes later which could be handled in rp, if it wasn't a blatant power gaming issue so small in the larger scheme of things it is not worth the hassle of report. Not to mention the few times ive had people go ">///< bw-bwut ill hw-hwave t-to take m-moi shirt off!! i-Infront of youuu >///<".

Ive had the most fun with medical rp when i have had my characters teach medicine, a druid character believing infections and diseases are the work of fey spirits is one of my favorites to play out. I would adore being able to roleplay out herbal medicines and frequent returning appointments to check in, but sadly most people see it as a one and done magic fix.

Tldr: The issue is there's a pressure for players, not characters, to save something important to other players- aka their characters leading to a need to do "right" not what is applicable to rp.

A bit late on the topic.

A big thing about Medical RP is that the injured just usually sits there & waits til they've been dealt with. Sometimes the medic goes mega indepth, so you just kinda sit there for 2h. Or they get distracted by other people & fucks off & leave you (again) to sit there for 2h.

The only medical RP I've found to be engaging for both parties is 'Cursed Healing'  that Witch Doctors do.

1. The shaman can flex their abilities & maybe get the injured to make a little altar for the spirit.

2. The injured get's to CHOOSE & DISCUSS OOC a malediction that affects their injured bodypart.

3. If you need a limb, it can be made on the spot (usually).

4. The shaman usually doesnt **** off til it's done.

This not only get's the injured in good form again but also helps & makes the injured want to RP the curse that's been placed on them, since they're the one who comes up with it!

It also has a bit of accidental comedy, in case the ritual fails. We once failed 3 times to help a musin reattach their limb & bit-by-bit turned them into a mini-goblin for 2h irl (player choice).

Another time i gave someone leporsy(player choice)

Or when i was a student, I wanted to fix my tongue & get a lesson - both me & my mentor lost the ability to speak & just stared at each other.

Maybe the only downside is that if its a big injury, like reattaching a limb. You need to meet up 5 times & do the whole dance.

medic rp is stale. i roleplayed an evil doctor for a while, i had a good time. if you aren't going to make your medical rp anything but infodumping, one-note lists of herbs & processes, i'm not going to read it, and you probably aren't going to have fun writing it.

the dry accuracy in medical rp is the death of character expression. your medic should be scared of blood, or a snakeoil salesman, or greedy, or drunk on the job, or ignorant of their patient's pain, or arrogant.

medical rp is like every other form of rp - it needs drama, flair, and personality. if you can't bring that to your doctor rp, i'm just going to smoke while you paragraph post.
