A simple, yet multifaceted desire - power. For some, it was found in politics and social manipulation. Others, martial prowess - and yet others, the Arcane. Conjuring and manipulating the great Elements, perfecting illusions to addle targets, and delving into complex manipulation of space and materia. Even the long-lived Elves, however, are utterly incapable of comprehending all of what they strive to master, but certain, dedicated mages reach further than most. Those that do glimpse something far beyond mastery, beyond even mortal comprehension.

 

Regnants are a Voidal [CA] that bear several requirements in order to make one eligible:

» I: All [5] magic slots dedicated to Voidal Magic. If they have been lost by any means, such as by disconnecting from Naztherak, then one can never achieve this [CA] without somehow regaining the slots and filling them. Additionally, one must be [T5] in at least [3] of those Voidal Magics.

» II: An [FA] in Atronach Forging.

» III: A ‘Further Magic’ [FA] - that being either Eminence, Artificery or Voidstalking. Scions are, notably, ineligible  to become Regnants due to the limited amount of mana they can harness without losing the Feat. Veilwatching does not count towards this, though is still compatible with Regnants.
» IV: Access to either a Voidal Heath or a Voidal Tear, and [4] [T5] mages.

» V: Regnants cannot practice non-Voidal magic or magical feats such as Golemancy, but may still retain knowledge-based Feats such as Alchemy and Tawkins.

» VI: Zar’ei and Draugars cannot become Regnants - the former due to losing magic slots, the latter shackled by necromantic undeath. Machine Spirits, too, are incompatible due to Garumdir's claim upon their souls.

Becoming a Regnant is a long endeavour, requiring a total of [1] OOC week to undergo. In effect, the mage must construct a skeleton out of metal pieces which when finished will resemble a humanoid skeleton, save for the ribcage being replaced by something more similar to a chestplate. 

 

Once the frame has been created, a heavily modified Atronach Core is to be made. Focus Crystal refined by the to-be Regnant must make up the centre, and the Magegold plating around it must be replaced with Aurum - to contain the soul within. Once the Core has been initially created, it is to be carried around with the to-be Regnant for [1] OOC week, infusing it with various experiences, mundane or otherwise, to further nature it to the soul it would soon carry. 

 

With the pieces of the body completed, the mage must seek out either a Voidal Heath or a Voidal Tear, along with [4] [T5] mages. Following this, a free-form ritual must be completed, the aesthetics of which can be up to interpretation - but will always follow the bombardment of mana onto the to-be Regnant’s body, and a use of a Ley Line connecting them to the new body. Eventually, the recipient will perish in agonising fashion as Thaumic Petrification crystallises their organs, leaving their corpse to fall limp and transferring their soul to the Core, and turning the existing frame into Inert Arcanium. Here, until their CA is accepted, the nascent Regnant experiences a set of increasingly convoluted visions as their soul is effectively shredded and reformed into its new housing, abandoning any racial boons, curses or afterlives, replaced with the promise of endless, disquieting silence should the Regnant undergo a true death as their soul is claimed by the Void. Once they have recovered, they will find themself in their new form, bearing burdens and blessings alien to those they once experienced.

✶ The metal pieces making up the Regnant cannot be enchanted by any form of magic prior - the purpose they are to serve is too complex to sustain along with additional ensorcellment. Additionally, should the pieces be Bluesteel or any other non-mundane metal, they will lose any special properties when the Regnant is created.

✶ A Regnant’s Core is an item that requires ST signage once screenshots of creation RP are provided, and requires the Significant Magical Artifact tag. When a Regnant demanifests, they may submit an SREQ to request a new core item.

✶ The other Voidal Mages participating in the ritual would be unable to assist in a Regnant-creation rite for [2] OOC days afterwards.

✶ The process of becoming a Regnant is considered as rare knowledge, known to all Regnants, who can freely speak about it to other Voidal mages and thus pass on the knowledge. 

Aᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ

Thanks to the magesteel construction of their body, Regnants enjoy a degree of flexibility in their appearance, though always appear humanoid. They may don robes, coats or other garb freely, though are barred from wearing  armor of any kind. Many choose to wear robes, cultivating an arcane aesthetic, with the Inert Arcanium plating often working to exacerbate this perception - it will appear like a solid, metallic manifestation of the Regnant’s aura, which itself pulses and flares underneath the plating, occasionally showing between gaps or escaping outwards in short bursts. 

 

A Regnant's face can either be static - similar to a mask or faceplate - but can be expressed through the use of an overlying layer of the Regnant’s aura, which can shape itself into strange, ethereal versions of emotions or expressions. Some Regnants prefer to keep their face blank or unmoving, and some like to mimic the being they had once been.

 

When spellcasting, part of or all of the Regnant's plating can optionally take on the aesthetic of the corresponding magic's Arcanium - such as Fire or Air Evocation.

 

Redlines:

✶ Regnants must appear humanoid, and may be as tall as 7 feet at maximum.

✶ Regnants can bear horns, wings or other aesthetic protrusions made out of their mana - though neither will provide any form of advantage nor serve to disguise them, and are purely incorporeal.

✶ Regnants can have more than [2] arms, but strength will be split equally between them, with [4] arms as maximum.

✶ Regnants cannot masquerade as any other CA or being effectively. They are clearly inorganic and magical. Illusions are still able to disguise them should the Regnant make use of Illusion, following that magic's redlines.

 

Pʜʏꜱɪᴄᴀʟɪᴛʏ ᴀɴᴅ Sᴏᴜʟ

 

A Regnant is effectively a soul-bound construct. Though their soul is anchored to their core, it - similarly to Descendant bodies - is diffused into the rest of their body, allowing things such as Malflame to affect them. Due to its mutilation by Voidal energies bound by ritual magic, a Regnant’s soul - infused now with arcana - becomes a mere battery to power their form and magic, along with maintaining their memories and personality. It contains Anima and produces Mana as usual.

 

Regnants do not require air to breathe, food to consume, or water to drink - nor may they suffer from aging, or poisoning that would affect a biological body, and mundane, alchemical or Voidal frost and flame will not damage their bodies or serve to cause them pain unless made physical/combustive. Additionally, Alchemy is, while still practicable by them, unusable to Regnants as they are unable to prime or consume potions, nor may they be affected by them beyond purely physical effects such as Tanglefoot or a Blasting Potion.

 

These constructs possess a level of physical strength greater than they once did as mortal wizards. Strengthened by their metallic frames, they regain strength and speed equal to a human's, and may wield weaponry that counts as up to [2] ingots in the Material Compendium - daggers, shortswords, handaxes, spears and so on. They may not don any form of armor, and may not benefit from this strength while Connected lest their focus break, even if benefited by Incanter's Flow as an Eminent. A Voidal Heath's unbreakable Connection will, however, be maintained. In all situations though a Regnant cannot perform Major Actions alongside regular casting or the maintaining of spells.

 

Regnant plating, after receiving [2] sharp strikes/shortbow projectiles, will be rendered compromised and unusable, though [1] strike from two-handed blunt weaponry/arbalest projectiles or any force stronger than this will immediately do so. The head is similarly affected, and strikes against that area will serve a similar disorienting effect to striking a regular mage. A Regnant lacking a head is incapable of seeing beyond [10] metres, but may otherwise continue to function. The core is incredibly fragile - [2] strikes from any source will serve to shatter it and demanifest the being, though strikes from antimagic, Aurum or soul-affecting abilities like Malflame or Dragonsflame will instantly destroy it. 

 

Regnants are incredibly weak against antimagic. Auric Oil, Thanhic-steel or otherwise abjurative effects such as Dragonsflame will shear through their plating with ease, only requiring [1] strike to compromise plating. In the case of Thanhium, striking a Regnant would deny them the ability to reconnect for [3] emotes afterwards, and will affect the Thanhium as if abjuring a [T5] spell. Additionally, Regnants will interact physically with Ward Shields as if they were impassable barriers.

 

Regnants will bleed mana as they are injured - as parts are compromised, the being begins to lose mana at a rate faster than normal, preventing them from accessing certain tiers of their spells.

 

» One compromised part: Capped to [T4] spells.

» Two or more compromised parts: Capped to [T3] spells.

 

They can patch bleeding areas by spending [2] emotes dedicated to ‘cauterising’ the bleeding mana, where they are limited to [3] blocks of movement per emote and may not cast or perform actions. This patching ability can only affect one compromised area at a time, and once patched the area will no longer be considered compromised. Outside of combat, they can replace compromised areas with a freeform ritual, taking an appropriately sized chunk of metal to shape into the replacement limb, head or chestpiece and flooding it with mana alike to Arcanium creation albeit without the element of chance. Repairs as such can be performed only [1] time per OOC day.

 

Regnants are capable of floating aesthetically up to half a metre off of the ground - during combat, this is limited to a mere few centimetres, not enough to avoid anything on the ground such as Tanglefoot or Geotic Field.

 

Redlines:

✶ Regnants do not possess biological bodies and are thus unable to FTB, nor may they otherwise engage romantically at all. They do not possess organs, flesh or hair of any kind, nor do they require them to survive.
✶ Regnants may still feel pain and retain their sense of touch.

✶ Regnants may only benefit from their enhanced physical strength while not Connected. Making use of it - such as swinging a weapon - will disconnect them as usual, bypassing an Eminent's Incanter's Flow but not the unbreakable Connection afforded by Voidal Heaths. They cannot don any form of armour, though may use shields that count as [2] units of material or less.

✶ Regnants may not wield Thanhium. Doing so intentionally causes pain to their hands sufficient only to make them drop the weapon or object.

✶ Regnants can become Veilwatchers, eschewing the requirement of physical eyes. They may still drop the Feat as usual.

✶ Regnants can be affected by a Seer’s Eyebite, Hypnotic Gaze, Flash Powder or Enhanced Magelight as they still rely upon sight.

✶ Regnants feel pain and can have their focus disrupted by whatever might do so for a T5 mage such as loud sounds or committing to sprinting or dodging melee attacks, save what does not affect them.

✶ In regards to weapon strikes, two-handed blunt weaponry is classified as blunt weapons that are intentionally made to be held two-handed, not a one-handed mace held with two. Additionally, ‘grazing’ strikes from sharp weaponry such as daggers or shortswords will not cause plating damage.

✶ A headless Regnant can restore their vision using the patching ability on their head. While headless, their [10]-metre sight is not 360 degrees; they are simply limited from seeing beyond that distance.

✶ Having more than [2] compromised parts does not cap spells further.

✶ The parts that can be compromised are as follows: Head, Arms, Legs, Torso. Having more than [2] arms makes each of the additional arms also eligible to be destroyed.

✶ Having parts compromised still affects a Regnant physically - without legs, they cannot move even with their floating ability, and they cannot utilise arms that have been destroyed.

✶ Regnants do not possess genus or lifeforce. They still harbor a soul and anima, however, and may be affected by Mysticism’s Rite of Harvest or other such abilities.

✶ Dragonsflame acts like an anti-magical effect when striking Regnant plating or their core.

✶ Damage done to Regnants will be erased upon their remanifestation.

✶ Regnants cannot benefit from alchemical brews, nor be affected by poisons or airborne inhalants.

✶ Regnants do not possess Lifeforce, and thusly cannot be drained of it nor be affected by spells that rely upon Lifeforce-bearing targets to function.

✶ Malflame or soul-affecting spells will work on the Regnant as normal - they retain their soul - with Malflame marking the Regnant’s plate with burns glowing with infernal light. 

✶ A Regnant’s core may only be damaged if their torso plating is compromised.

 

Dᴇᴍᴀɴɪꜰᴇꜱᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ

Aɴᴅ ꜱɪʟᴇɴᴄᴇ ꜱʜᴀʟʟ ꜱᴘʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪᴛꜱ ᴡɪɴɢꜱ.

 

Regnants, once their cores have been destroyed or exhausted of mana, find their souls in a strange, disquieting limbo for what feels like a year to them, as they drift unconsciously around the edges of the Veil - sometimes, their soul encounters lesser Voidal beings, who like to inflict incoherent visions upon the intruder. In reality, it takes only [1] OOC day for their void-tainted spirits to find their way back onto the material plane, where a new body will be created. Notably, they will not need to repeat the arduous creation process again - open to a greater flow of arcana, they may simply conjure a new body into existence. For [1] OOC day after remanifesting, the Regnant will feel weaker than before, recovering from the expenditure of re-creating their form. They’re limited to casting spells with a [T3] manacost or lower, and may not access any abilities - passive or active - from their Voidal Feat or those inherent to Regnants. As with regular death, Regnants cannot remember the cause of or events surrounding their death, including the death itself, though due to their resurrection mechanic are capable of acknowledging that they did die, even if they cannot recall why or how.

 

However, Regnants are capable of laying claim to a Mana Obelisk; scribing their name in Common upon its surface using Magegold as inlays will anchor themselves to the structure. If an Obelisk exists in this way, if the Regnant demanifests, they may instead remanifest at the Obelisk, and skip the period of magical weakness - drawing upon its reserves to conjure a new body rather than their own. 

 

Should a Regnant decide to leave the mortal plane for eternity, they may do so through enacting Thaumburn upon themselves - exhausting their mana in a grand display outside of combat, then allowing their form to crystallise, going still forevermore. This display is harmless; unable to cause harm or restrain another being. It may be a massive, sky-piercing pillar of fire, a sudden city-wide blizzard or an abruptly-conjured forest and attending ecosystem that lasts for only hours or days after the Regnant’s death.

✶ Demanifestation of a Regnant - and their subsequent reforming - is known to them, though they will not recall the cause of their death of events surrounding as per Monk Revival rules.

✶ If a Regnant’s Mana Obelisk is destroyed, they will return to manifesting as usual. If it is destroyed during the [1] day they are demanifested, they will similarly manifest as usual.

✶ A Regnant can only lay claim to [1] Mana Obelisk at a time - in order to shift to another, they will have to either remove their name from the structure or destroy it. Both the marking of and the removal of such from an Obelisk requires an ST sign along with the one notifying that it is an Obelisk.

✶ Suicide - such as to evade capture - still counts as a permanent death, as do things like Thaumburn from utilising White Fire and certain ET events where revival mechanics are altered.

✶ The core from a PKed Regnant can remain a signed item, though cannot be used to ‘Revive’ them by any means, It can be enchanted Voidally, acting identically to Arcanium in that regard.

Regnants are both tortured and soothed by their existence. Some may be thankful for escaping the claims of the divine or demonic, others retrospectively bitter, their blissful afterlives forever lost to them. All, however, tend towards being coldly logical, machiavellian or ruthless to varying degrees depending on the sort of person a Regnant was before transformation.

 

They will retain a near-perfect recollection of their previous life, and as the Regnant matures, they may choose to distance or reconcile themselves with their past, some seeing it as a chrysalis awaiting discardment, others a simpler, sheltered existence alike to how one would view their childhood. 

 

Regnants often develop a tendency towards isolation, feeling uncomfortable or irritable in large-scale social situations. They begin to see Descendants as primitive, only seeing mastered magi or other Regnants as their peers - though this can manifest differently depending on how the Regnant sees fit. Some strive to protect such lesser beings, similar to how a biologist would protect an ecosystem, and others may totally ignore the lives and wishes of those they consider to be ‘below’ them.

 

Curiosity and a knowledge-seeking mindset are common to Regnants, who ever seek to expand their mental libraries by any means possible. Some of the elder Regnants may be prone to short bursts of intense disgust at either what is around them or themselves, viewing either as hopelessly flawed. Additionally, Regnants may develop an ‘obsession’ with a certain topic or concept. Battle, politics, artifice, herbology - each Regnant seeks to master something, to carve out their own niche.

Regnants, as masters of their craft, glimpse convoluted innovation - their minds truly freed as they ponder otherworldly ideas and begin their experimentation. Novel utilisation of the pure arcana they find themselves able to access leads to varying discoveries. The abilities below are immediately accessible to Regnants upon their transformation.

 

General Redlines:

✶ Regnant abilities cannot have their casting times affected by Voidal Tears, Incanter’s Flow or any other method that serves to quicken spellcasting, nor may they be slowed down when interacting with Thanhium’s radius of magic-dampening, due to the intrinsic nature of the abilities.

✶ Regnant abilities do not incorporate connection emotes, nor do they require Connection to use save for Stabilised Connection. They do, however, require focus equal to any Voidal spell to charge and cast - but not maintain - effectively.

 

Mᴀɢᴇ Aʀᴍᴏʀ -  [Passive] [Combative]

Yᴏᴜ ᴛʜɪɴᴋ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴀʀᴄʜᴀɪᴄ ᴛʜɪɴɢ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄᴀʟʟ ᴀ 'ꜱᴘᴇʟʟ' ᴡɪʟʟ ꜰᴀᴢᴇ ᴍᴇ?

 

Regnants are notably resistant to Voidal magic, being far more familiar to it than regular magi. They can activate a ‘shielding’ of sorts against such spells after spending [1] emote entirely dedicated to activating it, bearing a maximum of [5] points and lasting until the end of combat. When a Voidal spell strikes the shield (if it retains sufficient durability), no damage will be done to their body, nor will concentration on spells be disrupted. Should it be over-taxed - such as a [T5] spell striking a [2]-point shield - the Regnant will suffer a [1] emote stun and immobilisation, though will be saved from the effects of the spell. The shield will replenish itself after combat.

 

Mage Armor, when active, appears as a thin veil of aura-colored energy around the Regnant made up of innumerable small, repeating geometrical shapes such as triangles or pentagons, which ripple and crack as spells are absorbed. When it is destroyed, the veil will disperse outwards.

 

Depending on a spell’s tier, it will do a differing amount of damage to Mage Armor.

]| [T1]-[T2] Spells have no impact on Mage Armor, and can be blocked without consequence.

]| [T3] Spells drain [2] units of durability.

]| [T4] Spells drain [3] units of durability.

]| [T5] Spells drain [4] units of durability.

 

The Abjuration spell will destroy their magical shielding instantly, though will not cause a stun, this use of the spell bearing a [T4] manacost to the attacking Abjurationist. Use of the Abjuration spell on an unshielded Regnant will instead work like any other abjurative effect striking them - that is to say, with devastating physical damage.

 

Eᴍᴏᴛᴇ Exᴀᴍᴘʟᴇꜱ:

|[ I - Activation ]|

A hood was thrown back from the figure’s face - if it could be called one, given it was a bronze, featureless mannequin-like head. Tiny, golden-red triangles began to coalesce and drift into place over Oriann’s form like a second skin, as she took a step backwards. “Calm yourself; I come with peaceful intent.” The veil grew rapidly; already capable of defence as it locked into position to protect its creator.

 

|[ II - Shielding ]|

Oriann took a moment to compose herself, blank visage betraying no emotion as she clasped her hands before herself as if to reprimand the jumpy mage who stood guard by the College’s doors. The Fire Blast he’d flung struck her with expected power, flaring bright and dissipating. Yet it left the Magesmith untouched, her interlocked-triangle shielding rippling outwards from the point of contact in golden waves. 

 

|[ III - Shattering ]|

The twisted Regnant jerked once as his strained shield was struck by the bolt of ice - it embedded itself in the veil of overlapping squares for several tense moments before both it and Rayse’s Mage Armor shattered. Rayse’s corrupted, inverted Connection faltered and failed, the Lost being locked in place by the crackling threads of his fractured armor, stunned for the emote.

 

Redlines:

Spoiler

✶ Mage Armor will not function against non-Voidal magic.

✶ Mage Armor activates during the emote that is spent summoning it, and may defend a Regnant from harm at that emote.

✶ Mage Armor cannot protect any being besides the Regnant from harm; a Flamethrower or other stream-type spell will divert around the Regnant tightly enough that even one standing right behind them will be offered no protection.

✶ The emote spent activating Mage Armor cannot coincide with any other action besides moving up to [4] blocks.

✶ Mage Armor will not protect the Regnant against a weapon if the weapon is affected by something such as Enwreathe - it remains a physical attack, though any additional 'magical' effects are blocked.

✶ Mage Armor protects the Regnant against Illusion, or Invasion, along with Alter Light spells. Illusion spells will have a [1] unit cost, and Invasion a [3] unit cost.

✶ The attacks from Terrestrial Conjurations or Bound Jing trigger Mage Armor, enacting a [1] unit cost if they are small or medium - though Large Conjurations exact a [3] unit cost per hit and Tiny Conjurations are blocked without consequence,

✶ Repeated spell-attacks - such as Flamethrower or Water Whip - drain their equivalent amount of units for each emote the Regnant remains within its area of effect, or is struck again in the case of Water Whip.

✶ Expulsion acts like a [T5] spell when striking Mage Armor.

✶ Spells cast by an Atronach will count as [T3] spells against Mage Armor.

✶ Physical attacks levied by an Atronach’s form - a punch or kick, for example - are not counted as magical effects, rather as physical attacks.

 

OOC Note:

Mage Armor is most likely a Regnant’s primary ‘upgrade’, so to speak, in comparison to regular mages. While it is not as powerful as a Zar’akal’s total immunity to Malflame, it serves a similar purpose, if lessened by the requirement of activation, and the unit system. It doesn’t function against non-Voidal Magic.

 

Sᴛᴀʙɪʟɪꜱᴇᴅ Cᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ  - [Passive] [Combative]

ᴀɴᴅ ʏᴏᴜ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇɪɴᴠᴇɴᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴏꜱᴛ ꜰᴜɴᴅᴀᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ᴘᴀʀᴛ ᴏꜰ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴄᴇ?

 

A Regnant's concentration may be disrupted the same way other mages would - by injury or other disorientation - though are notably able to re-connect after being injured, no matter how severely. However, if a Regnant spends [2] emotes to connect, rather than one, they gain a one-time bolstering to their Connection. If this more stable Connection has been enacted, the first hit they take from any source that bypasses Mage Armor - mundane attacks or antimagic, for example - will not cause them to lose Connection, or disrupt spellcasting, though will still strike the Regnant and cause appropriate damage.

 

The active version of this ability - the stabler Connection - is denoted by a visible swathing of the Regnant’s aura around them, forming thick, transparent ‘plates’ alike to armor, which dissipate when it is activated. 

 

Eᴍᴏᴛᴇ Exᴀᴍᴘʟᴇꜱ:

|[ I - Reconnection ]|

Despite entirely missing his left arm, Rayse laughed in a broken, overlapping voice, regarding his assailant with an Arcanium mask that twisted intentionally, an uncannily wide smile replicated by etchings appearing on the metal, scratched as if by a child. A nebulous glow seeped from his plating, an odd anti-light of garish red and deep indigo flaring as his Connection returned.

 

|[ II - Bolster ]|

Erisdar swept his robe backwards, ceasing his hastened movement to turn, focusing on the charging knights with a faceless expression. His aura of white and purple flared, establishing itself as usual in flower-like patterns, thickening vines of color winding around his form.

 

|[ III - Bolster ]|

Then the Regnant’s aura seemed to warp - welding itself into translucent, white-purple plates that overlaid his form alike to platemail, granting him further resistance against physical disruption to his sorcery. Of course, though, he continued to back away from his assailants - watching their brandished warhammers with something akin to distaste.

 

Redlines:

✶ Regnants may still be disconnected by  means that would normally disconnect a regular mage. 

✶ This does not bypass Thanhium’s ability to prevent magical connection when wounded with it.

✶ Any other form of connection bolstering will not stack with the active or passive form of ability.

✶ The ‘armor-like’ tell caused by the active version of this ability does not provide any actual defence, nor may it serve to obscure. It is a telegraph, nothing more.

✶ The stabilised connection cannot be enacted more than [1] time per encounter.

✶ Malflame will bypass a stabilised connection entirely, due to affecting the soul.

 

OOC Note:

Stabilised Connection is intended as one of two options a Regnant can start a fight with (at least for the active form) - Do they activate magical shielding with Mage Armor, or cater for incoming physical attacks? They aren’t mutually exclusive, of course, but especially in mage-versus-mage battles, a singular emote can make a lot of difference when both parties rely entirely on 2-5 emote long spells.

 

Wᴇʟʟꜱᴘʀɪɴɢ - [Passive] [Noncombative]

Yᴏᴜ ꜰᴇᴇʟ ᴛʜᴀᴛ, ᴅᴏɴ’ᴛ ʏᴏᴜ? ᴛʜᴀᴛ ꜱᴛᴀᴛɪᴄ ʜᴜᴍ ᴀɴᴅ ʙᴜᴢᴢ ʟɪɴɢᴇʀɪɴɢ ꜰᴏʀᴇᴠᴇʀ ʙᴇʏᴏɴᴅ ʏᴏᴜʀ ꜰɪɴɢᴇʀᴛɪᴘꜱ. ɴᴏᴛ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴄʜᴍᴀɢᴇꜱ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜɪꜱ ᴇʀᴀ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ʜᴏᴘᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴀᴄᴄᴇꜱꜱ ɪᴛ - ʙᴜᴛ ɪ ᴄᴀɴ.

 

Regnants can act as a point for Voidal Connection, thanks to their magical expertise. They may also, thanks to their masterful skill, act as [2] mages for Voidal Rituals, rather than [1], if participating - or alternatively, they can act as the nexus of the act, and (At presiding ST’s consent) heavily enhance its effectiveness, OR serve to make the rite more mana-efficient - mages who participate, instead of being totally drained, will only have half of their mana taken.

 

Redlines:

✶ Wellspring does not and cannot affect everyday CRP in any way - Circling Rituals are overseen by ST, or used for MArt creation.

 

OOC Note:

Wellspring was originally conceived as what I now realise was basically ‘We have Voidstalker at home’ - as a sort of mana battery to assist with Arcanium creation. Boring. So, because Regnants are more experienced at using mana, rather than just having more of it, Wellspring now acts as a similar buff-to-rituals but in a different way. This is the ‘coven’ ability of this CA, meant to assist with both Empowerment and Infusion rituals. 

 

Sᴜʙᴛʏᴘᴇꜱ

 

All mastered mages take after one of four archetypes - the Voidstalker, Eminent, Artificer or Arcane Scion. While the latter’s Connection is too carefully controlled to make a Scion eligible to become a Regnant, the other three reap class-unique abilities expanding upon their own.

 

Aʀᴛɪꜰɪᴄᴇʀ - Mᴀɢᴇꜱᴍɪᴛʜ

 

Artificers who become Regnants have a different form to most - they may influence their appearance with effects similar to a Voidal Mastercraft or Artificery-imbued Arcanium, such as free-spinning gears or otherwise freeform ‘mechanical’ though clearly magical additions such as floating shards of metal that serve as a timepiece.

 

Tʀᴀɴꜱᴄʀɪʙᴇ - [Active] [Combative]

Wᴀᴛᴄʜ. ꜱᴇᴇ ᴀꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴛʀᴇᴀꜱᴜʀᴇᴅ ꜱᴘᴇʟʟᴄʀᴀꜰᴛ ɪꜱ ᴛᴜʀɴᴇᴅ ᴀɢᴀɪɴꜱᴛ ʏᴏᴜ.

 

When a Voidal spell strikes their Mage Armor, a Magesmith can choose to allow the remnants of its arcana to linger, and to absorb them into their plating to act as temporary Arcanium-level enchantments, to be used for the rest of the battle. This can be done [2] times per battle, and will only work if Mage Armor has enough durability to successfully block the incoming spell. Activating Transcribe does not require any emotes to be spent doing so - it is a passive choice for when the Regnant is struck by a spell. Additionally, when Transcribe is triggered, a transparent duplicate of the absorbed spell will appear and be sucked into the Regnant’s plating.

 

Once a spell has been converted to the temporary enchantment, it may be triggered by the Regnant [1] time per battle, requiring the spell’s full emote-count to cast. 

 

Eᴍᴏᴛᴇ Exᴀᴍᴘʟᴇꜱ:

|[ I - Absorb ]|

Oriann’s shielding absorbed the firebolt, golden light rippling across the veil. As the attacking spell began to dissipate, though, it was abruptly frozen, then picked apart by pincers of gold energy, little segments of flame swirling before embedding themselves in the Magesmith’s shoulderplate, carving a simple rune onto its surface. 

 

|[ II - Casting ]|

The Magesmith took a step back, tapping her shoulder to activate the temporary rune. It blazed with fiery light, a hint of its caster’s aura emitting from its surface, the Regnant working to access and utilise the stolen spell. She lifted a slender, metallic arm in preparation, palm outwards.

 

|[ III - Casting ]|

The rune dissolved into pure flame, which crept down Oriann’s arm to form an exact mimicry of the bolt that had struck her shielding earlier, hovering restlessly in front of her palm as she took aim, disregarding another blow to her Mage Armor that put it close to shattering.

 

|[ IV - Casting ]|

Oriann clenched her fingers into a fist, and pushed outwards. The firebolt zipped onwards towards its original caster, who was in no position to counter - having just Brisk Stepped to avoid a blow from one of Oriann’s allies. The dart of flame caught the man’s robe aflame, and he yelped in shock, moving to pat it out and earning himself superficial burns to his hands.

 

Redlines:

Spoiler

✶ The enchantment created is fundamentally temporary - it cannot be kept after battle ends.

✶ An absorbed spell cannot be used the same emote it is absorbed.

✶ The spell absorbed will still deal damage to Mage Armor.

✶ Absorbed multi-hit spells such as Flamethrower, Water Whip or Terrestrial conjurations will not be canceled by Transcribe, but will rather go ‘dormant’ and immobile in the case of conjurations for [1] emote as that instance of the spell is briefly stolen, but will continue to function afterwards.

✶ Casting an absorbed spell behaves like it is an Arcanium spell - still requiring the full emote time to cast, such as [3] emotes for a single Flame Projectile, or 4 for Frozen Field. The ‘Connection’ emote therein cannot be skipped, and the cast spell follows all redlines surrounding Grand Enchantment, such as movement restrictions.

✶ Only Voidal spells may be absorbed by this ability, and spells requiring second-slot dedication or that are from a Voidal [FA] - those that cannot normally be enchanted - are incompatible with Transcribe.

✶ In regards to Life Evocation, Bound Jing cannot be replicated, nor anything from Jing itself. 

✶ Spells from Voidal Translocation cannot be replicated, given they do not interact with Mage Armor at all.

 

OOC Note:

Spoiler

Transcribe is an expansion upon Enchantment and Mage Armor, though my main qualms about it existing are that not all Regnants, even Magesmiths (ARTIFICERS) will have access to Transfiguration, though the Atronach Forging requirement should circumvent that as few have that feat without Transfiguration as well, or a lot of enchanter friends. The fact that only Magesmiths get a combative ability can be balanced out with the otherwise almost-totally noncombative nature of their Feat.

 

Vᴏɪᴅꜱᴛᴀʟᴋᴇʀ - Iᴄᴏɴᴏᴄʟᴀꜱᴛ

 

Now twice-steeped in the Void, Voidstalkers who become Regnants have their unstable, volatile arcana manifest in their appearance should they wish, alike to Voidstalker-imbued Arcanium - nebulous, often shrouded in static blackness in a vague humanoid shape, almost alike to a Voidal Horror. Should they bear one, their Second Mind would become evident as a freeform, 1x1x1-metre intangible entity that remains within their immediate radius of [5] blocks, incapable of coherent speech or affecting combat whatsoever.

 

Aᴘᴏꜱᴛᴀꜱʏ - [Noncombative]

Tʜᴇʏ ᴄʜᴀʟʟᴇɴɢᴇ ᴍʏ ʙʟᴀꜱᴘʜᴇᴍʏ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʀᴀɪꜱᴇᴅ ꜱᴛᴀᴠᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ꜱᴡᴏʀᴅ. ʟᴇᴛ ᴛʜᴇᴍ; ᴇᴀᴄʜ ɪ ꜱᴛʀɪᴋᴇ ᴅᴏᴡɴ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ᴀɴᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴄʀᴀᴄᴋ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ꜰᴀɪᴛʜ.

 

Voidstalker-Regnants are capable of performing a freeform ritual when in the immediate radius of a Voidal Tear that they played a hand in creating; either alone or with assistance, they can create a forum post that affects specifically Veilwatchers - one far more direct and jarring than a Tear-creation post. It acts as a ‘challenge’ to them, an invitation to visit the Tear. Notably, the post must include a vague reference as to the location of the Tear, such as ‘Ice-speared shipwrecks’ referring to the north of Azuras. 

 

Once the Iconoclast has created this post, they may ‘mark’ the Tear with their own arcana, becoming able to use it as a remanifestation point - along with benefiting from the same effects as a marked Obelisk - while it remains active. An Iconoclast-marked Tear will feature a large, freeform symbol made of the Regnant’s mana, floating amidst the middle of the Tear. If the Tear is destroyed, the Iconoclast can no longer use it as a remanifestation point.

 

Redlines:

Spoiler

✶ Veilwatchers are not forced to travel to the Tear, nor are they obligated to attack or ally with the Iconoclast making the challenge.

✶ Only Veilwatchers may be affected by the vision.

✶ If the marked Tear is destroyed during the [2] OOC days the Regnant spends remanifesting, they will remanifest at the Cloud Temple as normal.

✶ The exact vagueness as to the Tear’s position is up to the poster.

 

OOC Note:

This ability serves a mostly narrative purpose. It’s also up to the Voidstalker posting as to how vague to leave the location of the Tear, though obviously if they want someone showing up to the Tear, they’d not say ‘north’ and leave it at that. The remanifestation ability is largely flavor; as Regnants do not have as harsh a PK clause as other CAs, the ability to respawn somewhere different doesn’t change much about their death system.

 

Eᴍɪɴᴇɴᴛ - Sᴀɢᴇ

 

With a sudden immersion into the well-known currents of magic, an Eminent-Regnant is easily capable of navigating them, able to weave their innate ability into blossoming founts of power. They typically appear more ethereal than their counterparts, billowing swathes of aura about them like robes or scarves as parts of their plating occasionally turn to aura-colored translucency. As with Eminence-infused Arcanium, additional flair in the form of a rumble or boom, along with a harmless expanding ring of aura-colored mana may accompany spellcasting.

 

Inscribe - [Active] [Noncombative]

I ꜱʜᴀʟʟ ʙᴇ ʀᴇᴍᴇᴍʙᴇʀᴇᴅ; ᴍʏ ᴡᴏʀᴋꜱ ꜱʜᴀʟʟ ʙᴇ ᴇxᴀʟᴛᴇᴅ. 

 

Sages are capable of leaving magical marks upon an area. With a short [2]-emote ritual, they can create a 3x3x3 magical display wrought from their own mana, or an Evocation that they practice such as Water or Life Evocation. Equal to Imagination from Voidal Connection in regards to detail, the display will remain where it is (Marked by a sign) until dispelled by another Voidal mage, or any source of antimagic.

 

Eᴍᴏᴛᴇ Exᴀᴍᴘʟᴇꜱ:

Erisdar paused by the statue of himself, putting a hand to his chin in a rather human mannerism - one he quickly rectified by slipping it under his robe’s sleeve. Marble really didn’t speak to his true majesty, he thought. . . A swathe of flame engulfed his arm as the Sage began to seemingly paint in midair.

 

|[ II ]|

Once the Regnant was finished with his work, the symbol he’d sculpted before him dissolved into the statue, which suddenly acquired accents - used like gold paint to accentuate details - made from pure, shifting fire. Much better.

 

Redlines:

✶ Inscribe cannot be used to benefit or harm anyone, nor to metagame information. Elements conjured are intangible; fire will not burn, earth will not impede.

 

OOC Note:

Spoiler

Inscribe is a purely narrative spell; a sort of combination of Infusion from Artificery and regular enchanting. Given a Regnant’s nature to be an ‘archmage’, and an Eminent’s similar goal, allowing them to make themselves known or remembered would serve to assist storytelling. Perhaps they'd leave it as a threat after attacking a city, or for vain, aesthetic purposes.

Endgame CAs exist for Necromancy, Mysticism and Naztherak, three of the most-used dark magics on the server. I’ve taken time to examine them, and noted that they share several traits - that being the enhancement of their existing MA’s abilities or skills, and in the case of the latter two, removing the physical weakness inherent to them. While writing Regnants, I didn’t want to follow the theme of full-caster-with-melee-strength, but rather focused on exacerbating the qualities of a Voidal mage - capable magically in rituals and combat both. While melee strength does make an appearance, it's utterly incompatible with Voidal casting, and is limited to relatively light weaponry and no armor. A Regnant may be able to fight a first-blood duel, but has no hope of standing up to anyone in armor.

 

Voidal Magic is, obviously, far more varied than most other magics, given it is the only source of magic that is given its very own category. Rather than having sub-classes like Mysticism, it allows a mage to, in theory, possess any five of eight vastly different magics, along with a feat that further augments them, or drastically changes the way they interact with combat, such as in the case of Arcane Scions, which also open the field to wielding ST-material weapons. 

 

Regnant abilities are supposed to be relatively new ideas, or ‘enhanced’ versions of existing concepts. I shied away from things like ‘more mana!’ or ‘cast faster!’ especially given they already exist as Voidstalking and Eminence respectively. Rather, I implemented things such as magical ‘resistance’ in the form of Mage Armor - a watered-down version of a Zar’akal’s Malflame immunity, though Voidal, and Wellspring - a primarily noncombative ability focused on benefiting a group with assistance in Circling. 

 

This is my first proper attempt at writing my own lorepiece; what began as a [2]-day hyperfixation stretched out over months. I lost most of my energy near the very end, though got through it with much help from the Void Shadowbox. I learned a lot about lorewriting and lore in general during this process, and generally had fun iterating and nitpicking at redlines or abilities.
