Nectorist’s Writing Commissions

 

Although I’ve prided myself in my ability to juggle offering writing for free with my own writing, RPing, and everything else entirely unrelated to LOTC, the reality is that my time no longer permits me to write, review, edit, research, etc., at the same pace that I once did. As I now stare at my eight writing commitments, I realize that I simply can’t keep up with essentially provided free writing commissions. Moving forward, this document will serve as a central point to showcase what I can provide, how much I will charge, and what you can expect from me.

 

That said, I also understand that it can be costly, either in time or in money, to have the written content you want to produce on this server (or elsewhere) make its way onto paper Google Docs. I don’t want to break anyone’s piggy bank by demanding exorbitant prices, nor do I think my talents command anything beyond what’s affordable to the average person. Some people will charge as much as $1 per sentence, or $20 per page, or some other exorbitant price. My intention is to average around $10-20 for every full post, with the maximum at $50 for longer posts that require significant research (namely history posts).

 

Basic Rules:

 

I) I will never demand payment until my work is complete and is to your liking. I will not demand extra money for any time I spend editing my work to fit your wishes, but know that the more thorough your request, the better I’ll be able to tailor my writing to it.

 

II) I will write just about anything that’s requested, with the exception of plays or RP/CRP. I’m not good at playwriting, and pretty much anything I put together will be suboptimal. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time/money, so I’m just taking it off the table from the start. As for anything on a roleplaying platform, there is quite literally no point in playing if you aren’t at least writing your own emotes.

 

III) You do not have to credit me at all once the writing is complete. Most of the work that I do right now is ghostwritten and unconnected to me. I will also not use anything I’ve written for you as a reference without obtaining your permission first.

 

IV) I do not format posts beyond broad outlines (as evidenced by how this document looks). This is part of why I’m keeping my prices low. However, I’m absolutely willing to work around any pre-made formats that you provide.

 

V) I will always submit a free outline before I begin any work, just to ensure that the structure and narrative voice match what you want. The more time we spend making sure everything is good to go upfront, the less time I’ll have to spend thinking about what to write.

 

VI) All prices are ultimately negotiable. If the scope of work you want me to do is minimal, I won’t charge anything at all. If you’re looking for lengthy posts/documents that require me to spend a lot of time on it, then I’ll probably charge something over the expected amount, albeit for a reasonable price.

 

VII) I will establish a deadline with you sometime in the process of consultation. If I miss the deadline by three full days (72 hours from 11:59pm CST on the agreed date), you will receive your work for free.

 

Post Writing - Varies depending on length, usually no greater than a week

This includes about 70% of my body of work, but please note that I was not the sole contributor to several of these posts

 

Narrative Posts (PKs, RP, battle narratives, creative writing) - $5-20

I’d very much prefer you do this on your own, as it will help you develop your authorial voice more and just improve your writing skills more than anything else, but I’m still more than willing to write more ‘creative’ posts that are attached to a character’s specific RP.

Professional Posts (Weddings, Edicts, Events, Formal Announcements, etc) - $5-20

The posts that everyone hates to get out, but that we all need to do. I’m willing to do these for a small fee, but it must be understood that the sort of writing you’re going to be getting with these is relatively cookie-cutter. There are only so many ways to announce a wedding, but if you’d like, I can come up with some creative ideas for how to present it.

 

Example 1 - Political treatise Example 2 - Academic post

 

History Posts (Families, Characters, Nations, Cultural Lore, etc) - $20-50

This is my bread and butter, and where I feel comfortable charging the most. If you come with a clear outline of what you want, and provide me with sources to utilize, expect to pay towards the lower end. If you want me to do research from scratch, and generally draw my own conclusions with what I find, then we’re looking at closer to that $50 mark.

Wiki Pages - $5-30

I will write and create wiki pages for characters, wars, battles, etc., that you would like to see. If you just need something fixed or touched up though, shoot me a DM and I’ll do it free of charge. This is generally for expanding greatly upon existing pages or creating brand new pages. As with history posts, the amount of research that I have to do will be reflected in the price.

Misc. (Item Descriptions, Player Event Outline/Scripts, Character Pages, etc.) - $5-30

This is a category that encompasses basically any original writing that isn’t based around the forums or the wiki. My pricing is variable, but if there’s something LOTC-related that you would like me to write but won’t go on the wiki/forums, hit me up and we’ll work something out.

 

Writing Assistance - Maximum of 3 days, usually same day

 

Reviewing - $1/page

Looking over your writing with the intent of giving a full slate of recommendations for how to strengthen your work and achieve your thematic, narrative, and/or emotional goals within the text. This is about trying to bring out the best in your writing, so I will be in communication with you a lot to see what you’re aiming for.

 

Editing - $1/page

Looking over your writing with the intent of correcting grammatical, punctual, and general structural mistakes. This is about making your writing more technically proficient, with less emphasis on things like prose 

 

Collaboration - $2

If you want me to back you up with your writing, pitching ideas while sharpening your own original work, then this is the option for that.

 

Non-LOTC Writing - Varies

 

This is for anything that is unrelated to LOTC. I’ve written lore for other servers and roleplaying platforms, developed scripts (and delivered voice-overs) for YouTube videos and social media/radio ads, and helped people with school and work assignments. If you need anything written that isn’t LOTC-related at all, just reach out and I’ll determine if it’s something that I can do in a reasonable timeframe with a price that works for you.
