Explanation

 

To preface, I don’t really want to have to make this report. It seems petty to have to make a report about the ownership of a discord server. There’s no dignity in being the person who feels compelled to do it, but there’s precedence for Moderation being involved in these sorts of affairs and it’s a matter that relates to community cohesion so I will be making a report even though I acknowledge it will get me mocked by some. I’ve made this report of my own volition and without consulting Nectorist so if he wishes to comment and give his own thoughts he is obviously very welcome.

 

While it has been more recently referred to as the Temple of the True Faith discord server by some, I will be referring to it as the Church discord server because for most of its history it has been called the Church of the Canon. Anyway, the Church discord has served as the only real off-platform hub for the Church’s roleplay community and its related institutions since the discord’s creation in mid-2019 (making it close to 7 years old). The discord server has been a host to many important discussions over the years including those with especially important contributions from players like thesmellypocket who pioneered and encouraged higher degrees of theological analysis within the roleplay faith using his OOC knowledge of Latin and real-world theology to deepen the interpretations of the roleplay sacraments and scriptures. These sorts of discussions have occurred in a variety of channels and some of them have even been archived separately to the main channels that would only be available to those with access to admin-equivalent roles. The very nature of the archival of some of these channels is because they had the capacity to be useful for future endeavours that the roleplay community might want to explore such as discussion around the Wine of Sacrament.

 

Over the years, ownership transfer has always been done in good faith. It either went to whoever was deemed the High Pontiff who leads the roleplay community or to a secondary individual such as a serving Vice-Chancellor who ordinarily serves as the right-hand and regent for the High Pontiff in-roleplay under the circumstances that they may be more reliably counted upon to be active in the discord and to sort out any transitory process to the new roleplay administration. The other day after a motion of events that saw Bernard II (played by Valkealainen) PK, Nectorist on Valentin Burgundy would be voted to the position of High Pontiff by the Church’s priesthood in a vote with 14 approvals, 1 abstention, and 0 opposition. Votes included Bishops/Magisters either appointed or maintained by Valkealainen himself, and priests who had previously noted their ordination on a census posted by Wholesome_Thomas on Valkealainen’s as his Prefect of the Priesthood, and in roleplay with a letter to Meleutherius who hosted the ecumenical council with his Bishop Godfrey character. I emphasise this to quash any claims about spawned-in priests being used in a vote for roleplay succession. The only questionable priest character was a character played by Lyonharted who ordained his own character with another character of his and was rejected on the grounds that the nature of the ordainment broke the server rules regarding self-interaction and that nobody recognised his character in roleplay. Given that legitimate roleplay succession has occurred, good faith should dictate that ownership of the discord server should be transferred.

 

To give context, good faith is something that has been largely missing from the Church’s discord ever since levy_spearman was elected High Pontiff mid-2024 and even now to Valkealainen who was levy’s successor. Under the ownership of both players, but especially levy (who continues to be an admin in the discord), players have been banned, kicked, or otherwise harassed and ostracised in the Church discord as a result of the in-character actions and perspectives that could be considered oppositional to True Faith ambitions both in OOC and in RP. There were also periods of times where people like framalam / nopateoamateo who held admin roles and would delete messages and discussions that either contained oppositional opinions or contained things that were said that had the potential to be used in reports against individuals who played True Faith characters for rule breaks. It’s a systemic problem that they’re complicit in and they’re reinforcing it by not making any attempts to discourage it, likely because they endorse it. While I’m unsure if any deletions occurred since Valkealainen’s character has PK’d, Valkealainen still continues to uphold a bad faith environment by rejecting people with an interest in the community from joining such as ferdaboy and Xarkly. He has also purposefully ignored requests to transfer ownership to Nectorist and has instead, alongside levy_spearman and other True Faith players, decided to resort to trolling and equate that the server has now become a True Faith gaming discord server with the channels renamed to reference Foxhole.

 

The Church discord qualifies as an LotC medium as it relates to a roleplay community and has from time to time been linked on the LotC server discord to those that have wanted a link to it. While some players might make an argument that Moderation has no place interfering with platforms that are not strictly an LotC platform, there is a precedent for Moderation to involve itself in matters like these in order to ensure that good faith quality standards are being adhered to. An example of this is when TheEnglishDuck used a family tree editor’s account to grief Yoppl’s massive human family tree prior to the version being used now. Similarly, Valkealainen is causing unnecessary and undue strain on the religious roleplay community for trolling and refusing to concede discord ownership as a result of roleplay.

He knows very well of the expectation placed on him and that he’s supposed to transfer ownership of the discord. His unwillingness to address it or have a conversation about it (as demonstrated in first three screenshots above) is a purposeful ignorance that in the eyes of any reasonable individual should not be tolerated. If he made it clear that he was going to transfer the discord server, which he hasn’t because Nectorist has conveyed that he will likely need to make a new discord server in my asking, I would not have any reason to make a report about the topic.

 

Desired Result of Report

While not all of the discord’s admins are implicit in wrongdoings, in order to prevent any further problems with the server in the transitory process my desired result is the immediate removal of the admin permissions of all individuals in the Church discord to prevent further griefing of the server’s channels, roles, and messages.

After this, the discord server ownership should then be transferred to Nectorist. Nectorist can then reassign permissions as he sees fit. Players with admin permissions at the timing of this report are: Valkealainen (kymenlaaksonkaani), Tasty_Cheesecake (baratheonbbq), Sean_VEVO (sean_vevo), Mister_Gavin (gavin.0117), Aldukhan (aldhukhan8), and levy_spearman (levy_spearman).

If they refuse to transfer discord ownership, I request moderation intervention to encourage a transferral with enforcement actions taken if deemed necessary in order to uphold the community’s guidelines.

I do not wish for any infractions to be given out to any players involved and this report is not meant to address any past wrongdoing before now. The only exception is to those who engage in and are complicit with deleting important information in important channels, deleting channels, mass-deleting roles, or any other behaviour at the expense of the discord that could be considered retaliatory to this report. If someone with admin permissions resorts to griefing the discord server even without explicit direction, I would implore Moderation to give Valkealainen a lesser infraction for his involvement in failing to uphold sensible leadership in the discord.

A screenshot has been provided to me of all 50 existing channels in the discord server which includes archived channels locked behind exclusive roles, which may be provided to Moderation if any channels have been deleted.

If I was brown-nosing, I would've accepted the idea of him making a new discord because it's seemingly the path of least resistance. I do not think it's necessary and I do not think he should out of principle. The Church discord has been able to function in good faith for years even despite people disagreeing with each other. There is no reason why a new discord server needs to be made for those just for those already acting in good faith and lose an old discord with important contributions and discussions instead of encouraging those who are acting in bad faith to begin acting in good faith for the better of the roleplay community. Instead of hijacking and acting in a way contrary to community standards, they can make their own discord server where they can shitpost and keep people out all they want.

He shouldn't have to. We managed for years to peacefully pass the discord along from one High Pontiff to another, regardless of how they lost power, regardless of their thoughts on their successor. Even draeris handled eating shit and dying better, lmao

It has come to my attention that Valkealainen, with full knowledge of this report, has proceeded to instead transfer server ownership back to levy_spearman instead of doing the responsible thing and transferring it to Nectorist. This is despite claims from Aldukhan (an admin in the Church discord) that Valkealainen was in favour of transferring the discord server to Nectorist in an attempt to get me to close my report. Evidently, there is a network of falsehoods being utilised and I would like to go forward with Moderation intervention given that it is clear there is no attention to abide by community standards in fostering a good faith pro-roleplay environment.

I have no power to change owner and have no intent to randomly delete channels, however, I double-checked and no current members of the church discord have the crown next to their head like that. Levy_spearman joined the discord again 5 days ago and this is what his profile currently looks like:

It helps to know someone using BetterDiscord with the StaffTag plugin enabled for these sorts of matters, because it will give a golden crown to who owns the server and a silver one for anyone with admin permissions. It's fine to acknowledge that you can't see it, but it's silly to pretend that it isn't happening.
