-Skullport Lore-

Little is known of the once prosperous town, Port of Stars. Only that the dread pirate known as Blackbeard once called it home.

In recent days, the Vessel known as “The Obsidian Flame” has made port here, helmed by Captain Barnabas Horatio VillaLobos III. He, along with his slowly growing group of buccaneers, have made the newly re-named “Skullport”, their home and have begun conducting small raids on nearby villages. So named because of the large skull carved into the overhanging cliffs.

-A few things you should know about Pirates-

Pirates loot, pillage, and plunder for 2 reasons... One, to gain fame all over the lands. Nothing makes a pirate happier then to have people scatter when they see you. And two, to gain enough wealth to pay for their expensive habits. Nobody ever got rich being a pirate... at least not for long. Pirates would routinely blow everything they gained during one raid, well before they pillaged again. That's why they continue to do it. Be it alcohol, fancy clothes, exquisite foods, or other luxuries, Our band of pirates should never be accused of stealing to be the richest in Asulon. We steal to be the happiest. :)

Charter o' the Fallen Stars

In order to prevent disputes, the pirate crew shall impose rules of conduct upon themselves whilst aboard the vessel. This set of rules is called the charter. The pirates’ charter emphasizes division of plunder, giving the elected officers a higher share. Also, the charter provides an insurance policy for pirates who are injured.

1. Every man shall obey civil Command; the Captain shall have one full share and a half in all Prizes; the Quartermaster, Boatswain, and Ocean Guide shall have one Share and quarter. Every man shall be called fairly in turn by the list on board of prizes, but if they defraud the company to the value of even one minas in gold, jewels or money, they shall be marooned. If any man rob another he shall have his face scarred, and be put ashore where he shall be sure to encounter hardships.

2. If any man shall offer to run away, or keep any Secret from the Company, he shall be marroon'd with one Portion of Bread, one Bottle of Water, one Bow and a single arrow.

3. None shall strike another aboard the ship or within the Port of Fallen Stars, but every man’s quarrel shall be ended at the Paddock by sword or bow in this manner: at the word of command from the Quartermaster, each man being previously placed back to back, shall make 12 paces, turn and fire immediately. If any man do not, the Quartermaster shall lash his hands so as he may never fire straight again. If both miss their aim, they shall take to their blades, and he that draws first blood shall be declared the victor.

4. That Man that shall not keep his Arms clean, fit for an Engagement, or neglect his own Business, shall be cut off from his Share, and suffer such other Punishment as the Captain and the Company shall think fit.

5. If any Man shall lose a limb in time of an Engagement he shall have 400 minas in recompense.

6. If at any time you meet with any Woman, that Man that offers to meddle with her, without her Consent, shall suffer present Death.

7. The musicians shall have rest on the day of Joma only, by right, on all other days, by favor only.

8. Every man shall have an equal vote in affairs of moment. He shall have an equal title to the fresh provisions or strong liquors at any time seized, and shall use them at pleasure unless a scarcity makes it necessary for the common good that a retrenchment may be voted.

9. All goods looted shall be returned to harbor for stately use. Gold, iron, gems, and minas will be divided amongst the crew upon return.

-About AAARRRR Crew-

The Pirate Crew

There is a defined hierarchy on board of a any pirate ship, which follows the most important functions. This hierarchy is not geared towards who has more say on board, but what the chain of command is in any particular situation.

Captain

Barnabas Horatio VillaLobos III aka "Woolbeard"

Most pirate Captain's were democratically elected by the ship’s crew, and possess qualities of leadership and courage that inspire their crew to follow them and rely on their prowess in battle. Daring and decisive during any engagement, the captain is commonly looked upon with respect, as a knowledgeable leader of men. During chase or in a battle the captain's power is absolute and he can discipline anyone who disobeyed his orders. He also has life or death power over anyone taken as prisoner.

The captain has skills in navigation and seamanship, but first and foremost he has the type of personality required to hold together a rowdy crew of seamen. Other than battle, the captain usually would be delegating most of the everyday tasks to the Quartermaster or other junior officers. He needs to be overseeing all shipboard activity with the barest level of discipline necessary to keep an even keel.

Since most pirate captain's were elected, they could be replaced at any time by a majority vote of the crewmen. For example some captains were voted out and removed for not being as aggressive in the pursuit of prizes as the crew would have liked. And others were abandoned by their crews for being a little to bloodthirsty and brutal. A few were even murdered by their own men.

Quartermaster

Willard "Willie" Hardcastle

The Quartermaster is next in line after the captain in exercising authority over the crew. His authority on the ship takes up where the captain’s leaves off. Whenever the ship is not in chase or battle, the Quartermaster makes most of the decisions regarding the day-to-day ship activities.

The Quartermaster's main purpose was the distribution of things. He distributed rations, work, prize, and punishment. Pirates didn't trust authority and therefore saw no reason to let all the power of a ship rest on one man. Therefore they split the power between the Captain, who led the ship in battle and navigated the ship, and the Quartermaster, who usually led the way on most boarding parties, and kept custody of all prize or booty. As expected all gold, silver, or coin was taken, but beyond that, it was the Quartermaster who decided what else was worth taking. He made his decisions based on time and on how much room the ship had. If the ship was already cramped, exotic materials may be burned rather that stolen.

The Quartermaster was sometimes elected by the crew to represent their best interests and he receives an extra share of the booty when it is divided. Above all, he protects the Seaman against each other by maintaining order, settling quarrels, and distributing food and other essentials.

The Quartermaster also watches over the treasure until it is divided among the crew. The Quartermaster also settled individual quarrels and if need be, acted as a witness to any duels, to insure that duels were fair and just.

Serious crimes were tried by a jury of the crew, but the Quartermaster could punish minor offenses. Only he could physically punish a seaman after a vote from the Crew.

Boatswain

Lith'Doren

The Boatswain supervises the maintenance of the vessel and its supply stores. He is responsible for inspecting the ship and it's sails and rigging everyday, and reporting their state to the Captain. The Boatswain is also in charge of all deck activities, including weighing and dropping anchor, and the handling of the sails. He would be responsible for the crew's morale and work efficiency as well as the maintenance and repair of the hull, rigging, lines, cables, sails, and anchors.

((Lumberjacking- 75+, Axe Mastery- 75+))

Ocean Guide

John "Mappy" Klek

This is the officer who is in charge of navigation and the sailing of the ship. He directs the course and looks after the maps and instruments necessary for navigation. Since the charts are often inaccurate or nonexistent, his job is a difficult one. It is said that a good navigator is worth his weight in gold. He is perhaps the most valued person aboard a ship other than the captain because so much depends upon his skill.

((Some form of mapping mod))

Carpenter

A person in this valuable position worked under the direction of the ship's Boatswain using their skill to not only repair battle damage to masts, yards, hatches, and the hull, but to keep the ship's leaky seams in check with wooden plugs and oakum fibers. He would often have separate quarters combined with a workspace. There could probably be no more highly regarded artisan in a pirate ship crew when your life and livelihood depended on the soundness of the wood around and beneath you.

((Lumberjacking- 50+, Axe Mastery- 50+))

Gunner

The Gunner is responsible for the ship's guns and ammunition. This includes sifting the powder to keep it dry and prevent it from separating, insuring the cannon balls were kept free of rust, and all weapons were kept in good repair. A knowledgeable Gunner is essential to the crew's safety and effective use of their weapons.

((Blacksmithing- 75+))

Cook

Marin Coventina

A well versed cook is essential in keeping the crew healthy and happy. Knowing the needed dietary intake of everyone can be a difficult job, but having a knowledgable cook that can turn minimal materials into vast amounts of edibles can keep any ship afloat. Knowledge of plants and their healing abilities is also helpful as the cook acts as the crews sole medic. Tending the Port's farms help to gather needed supplies.

((Cooking- 75+, Farming- 75+))

Musicians

Clud

Those who could play drums, bagpipes, trumpets, accordions, fiddles, and other instruments were so well liked that they escaped torture if captured by pirates. With entertainment at a premium on most uneventful days at sea, they would be expected to play a jig to dance to, lead a shanty for work tempo, or provide dinner music. Musicians would usually play prior to and during a battle, blaring out martial tunes, nautical favorites, or simple loud noise to inspire the crew.

((Own at least 1 disc, preferably more))

Able Seamen

The common sailor, which are the backbone of the ship, need to know the rigging and the sails. As well as how to steer the ship and apply it to the purposes of navigation. He needs to know how to read the skies, weather, winds and most importantly the moods of his commanders.

Striker

Charles "Striker" Greymane

Often overlooked, the Striker was a native of the Wilds. They are expert hunters who fish and hunt wild game when the crew is ashore. Their knowledge of local plants aids in collecting edible fruits and vegetables. Their expert ability at hunting and fishing earns them a spot among the crew, Their hatred of government assures their loyalty and ferocity in battle. They are not kept aboard for their seamanship, their job is to hunt game and kill Alrasians.

((Archery- 50+))

Powder Monkeys

Many powder monkeys are probably pressed into service, being kidnapped and forced to serve aboard the ship. Often the powder monkeys are young lads no more than eleven to thirteen human years old. They mainly assist the Gunner and learn most of the ships basics but are paid very little (if anything), treated poorly, and are expendable. Chiefly responsible for the creation, and finding of gunpowder, they spend a lot of time standing in front of a furnace. If they manage to live a few years, they might eventually make it to a position of more importance on the ship. Often, due to their harsh life, powder monkeys are quick to try and desert a ship.

((Blacksmithing- 0.))

Prisoners / Brig

The ships Brig is a cell specially made to hold prisoners of raids and skirmishes. Willing prisoners are sometimes forced into service on deck of the ship.

Everyone aboard must have a combat skill above 50 to show prowess in fighting.

-Becoming a Pirate-

Becoming a member of our crew will not be an easy task. One must be approached by either the Captain (me) or my Quartermaster(williewonka01) to even be considered for a position. (If you feel your RP is up to it you may PM either of us here on the forums, or /tell us in game.) They must submit and have a VA accepted with minimum evils 1 & 2a before any other steps can be attempted. Then they must submit an “Official Asulon Pillage & Plunder Application.” This must in turn be accepted by myself or my Quartermaster. After formalities are concluded the designated applicant will meet at a secret location and then must fulfill a number of tasks designed by the crew to establish the newcomers worthiness and ability. These tasks will include but are not limited to;

Bringing certain goods and valuables to the town, no matter how you obtain them,

Proving, through action, your developed skill set,

Signing the company waiver, denouncing your association with any other outlying governments,

and finally, working on the ship as a Powder Monkey for a minimum of 1-2 in game years.(1 week RL)

At such time that you complete all of the previous requirements, you will be welcomed into the Company, and receive your first spoils of war.

If you try to skip any steps you will be immediately denied. Here is the application format. Post it below when you get to that step please.

Backstory of your character and why he should join the crew.(2-4 paragraphs):

John Klek grew up in a small town Aegis. He lived in Kal’Rog with his family. He would sit by the windowsill watching ships come dock at Kal’Rog day by day. Observing and studying them, dreaming daily about going out to sea. His father a merchant, with Kal’Rog being a trading city, would travel by boat to venture out to Oren and Alras. John would always ask if he could go along with his father but he always said, “No, the shea ish a dangeroushe place! Exspeacially fer a little boy like ye. Ye never know what could happen out der with Pirates and all.” and that first time when he said the word, “Pirate.” John asked with inquiry, “What’s a Pirate?” and that’s when John was hooked on the Pirate life. He soon learned of a position on a Pirate Ship’s crew that he had particular interest in. The “Navigator.” Soon he began grabbing parchment paper and drawing his own sketches of areas. His first creation was a map of the outer city of Kal’Urguan. It was convenient because this city was very close and in short walking distance of Kal’Rog and they always welcomed visitors. Although quite a few dwarves were wondering what I was doing snooping around there city drawing it. But these Maps weren’t just armature. They were pristine, perfect, almost like a replica of the city. (I am RP using a map mod that doesn’t use coordinates unlike zan’s minimap, called Journey map, that will fit good RP with a Navigator sine maps do not work in Multi-player. This mod also requires you to visit the area first. This is where my charting comes in.) From this day forth, John knew, he would be a Pirate!

Young Adulthood:

Now John has expanded his area of chartering. His father has finally let him venture with him on his trading journey’s. He always kept it a secret though that he planned to be a Pirate when he grew older. He had no friends in Kal’Rog and wasn’t very attached to his family, so he felt it easy not to tell anyone about how he planned to be a Pirate. He would just cover it up with saying he wanted to be a merchant just like his father. But as he want on adventures with his father he kept on Charting the places he went, spending hours at a time on small little details that were so very crucial to making a great map. He even compared his own maps with the Navigators on the Ships he went on with his father. The Navigators usually questioned if John actually did draw them. As if his skills were those of an expert. He too began realizing this and decided maybe, he too should set sail. He could chart the whole ocean! He could be the best Navigator ever to sail the seas! All’s he needed was some money, a ship, and some food. He then confessed to his parents his desire to set sail. They gracefully accepted it acknowledging his talents and realizing that it would be best for him too set sail. They bought a sloop and John named her “The Navigator.” He felt it fit right and would best show who he was. With the rations he had he could last a full 3-4 months without stopping. With 30 Rolls of parchment and about a gallon of Ink, he set sail. About 3 months into his sailing everyone began there preparing for there leave to the new world of Asulon. John had to have “The Navigator” disassembled and then reassembled in the Verge where everyone was gathering there boats to set sail. When they finally did set sail “The Navigator” was going strong handling the wake of the massive ships she sailed by very well. He decided not to chart his way there for he had no reason to ever find Aegis again. It was a dieing world that needed to be abandoned. He had no regrets and never looked back at it. Although he did enjoy the maps he made, and he kept them dear and close to him.

What type of MAJOR RP have you participated in on this server: I've been around the server since the beginning so i've been through a lot. They range from telling stories, to going to weddings. From coronations to being drunk in an inn. One of the favorite RP situation i've had though are the ones that involve the friends that I met from the beginning of the server. For those who are familiar with Kal'Bryst would maybe know i lived there. And that's the place where I met some really great people that took me in as apart of there group and we had the best of times in that city. Hopefully all of their names you'll know. Skinner (Former King Belin) Ljcrzynfree19 (Grand Master Architect Lukas) and Sandonthefloor (Skaenye) Those three were truly good friends and the RP times i spent with them were fantastic.

Ok agreed, I just don't want a ton of people posting apps.

Try to get ahold of us in game or through PM's here on the forums before attempting to get approved apps. I'll fix it up top.

I doubt that ends up being an issue, as an accepted villain application would be needed and obtaining an accepted villain app is not easy.

Backstory of your character and why he should join the crew.(2-4 paragraphs): For simplicity, I’ll just list the bio of my Villain.

The land of Aegis

Clud was dropped onto one of the most marvelous places, Kings Road. That was the end of Clud’s life. An Orc probably wouldn’t notice him and just accidentally squish him. Or maybe a tormented little Elf would shoot an arrow through his head for pleasure. However, that was not the case. Clud was to be saved, from the most absurd group of people. A group of musicians came along to save him. They weren’t doing it because they were nice people. It was the coin, they were interested in. A crying baby would surely fetch them more minas while they produced their finest music. That’s how Clud grew up, a simple tool used to increase profit.

A tool he would be for a many of years to come. As soon as Clud was able to walk, they gave him a lute he could fool around on. Of course, he would never be able to perform with them yet. With experience though, a master could be born. However, Clud was not a complete useless mess at this age. At the many taverns they performed at, there was ale to be drunk! When the lads and lasses were too drunk to drop some minas in front of the musicians, Clud went around and collected some. Of course, he was also told to collect everything from these drunk fools pockets. What an easy life it was, to be a musician.

It was not an easy life to be a musician though. It was often pouring rain when travelling from tavern to tavern, and food was not something to be plentiful. Even with Clud’s extra earnings and even when he learned how to perform good with a lute, there was not enough minas in their pockets. One day, the group was beat. No food, no coin, and not a spare bit of energy left in them. Clud was slowly walking along with his beaten group of musicians when he noticed something, a nice cabin hidden along the path. With the door wide open. The others noticed, and everybody had the same thing on their mind. Inviting themselves in was no problem for any of them.

The cabin was perfect for all of them. Enough room to put the bed rolls down, a roof above their heads, bread stocked up in the shelves, and not a single person was home! Clud was pretty happy, because for once in his life everything was so… laidback. He didn’t have to go scrambling around pick pocketing drunk people, or just convince them to give up a bit more coin. No minas were needed for this free stay, and food was supplied! The others realized how wonderful this was, nobody wanted it to end. From then on, all the musicians checked on every little cabin or home that they passed by while travelling. If they were empty, they found a way in, rested well, and stocked up on food. How easy their life was.

However, it wasn’t going to matter how good this group of musicians were living. The lightning bolts did not care. The undead struck attacked a town this unfortunate group of musicians was staying in. The tavern was covered with flames, and it was absolute madness. Clud, was thrown out the window by one of his fellow musicians. It was a harsh impact, but it was nowhere near as bad as the hot flames inside. A dozen or so lightning bolts struck the tavern again, completely devastating it. The tavern was decimated and only a pile of flaming rubble was left. Clud, watched in absolute horror, and then fell to the ground out of fright and exhaustion.

The land of Asulon

Years later, Clud still managed to walk in the land of Asulon despite all the odds. The monks saved him back then, but they should have left him there to die. After he got out of the sanctuary, it was only worse. It was harder to get money as a one person band, but what hurt the most were the other ways his fellow musicians supported him. They got into the empty cabins, they told him which guys to pickpocket, they even cooked the food. Clud was lost, but he didn’t give up. Clud was a survivor. He faced the hard conditions on the road and travelled between tavern and tavern. He found a way inside those nice abandoned cottages. He found a way to cook food without burning it. It wasn’t too bad, as Clud had more possibilities open.

The freedom, that was the best thing. Clud could play whatever tune he wanted on the lute. It went much farther than his music though. He could drink ale whenever he wanted, flatter every lady in a tavern, and pickpocket whoever he wanted. However, even though Clud loved getting drunk, it didn’t help him at all. Especially when every women he went up to smacked him in the face. They usually did that anyways, but that was after he annoyed them somehow. Clud also learned you cannot pickpocket while drunk. He learned that the hard way. Of course, as the years passed, Clud turned more to trickery then picking people’s pockets, as his hands were getting too big for that. Ah yes, freedom was good, but it also had its penalties in the end.

Clud grew a bit bolder every day he was by himself. In the beginning he did things originally just to survive. He still had that plan, but he wanted to survive longer. Clud did not want to be on the verge of starvation all the time. So, Clud started to take a bit more from those cottages he broke in to. At first, he took only what he might be able to sell off easily in a tavern. A nice little painting here, a gold nugget there, it was so simple. However, when he came to this one cottage in the absolute middle of nowhere he found the prize. Diamonds galore! What a fool this one guy was to put diamonds in some regular old chest. Clud, was the real fool though when an Orc came in wildly swinging with an iron axe. Clud picked up a rolling pin and whipped it at the Orcs head. Without looking back Clud hurled himself through a window and hit the ground. Clud tried to get up as quick as possible, but then he noticed the Orc wasn’t following him. The Orc was dead. The rolling pin had knocked him out. However it seemed that the axe head lodged into the hardwood floor, and the Orc head was lodged into the axe. How convenient.

The diamonds, Clud didn’t even care much that the Orc died. They are much lighter than carrying around a load of minas, and just one can get Clud free ale and a full night stay at an inn. A diamond even got him a great hardwood lute. That could cause some damage to a crazy Orc, and knock it out cleanly. Of course, Clud would never even attempt to go head to head with an axe wielding maniac. However, if a Halfling with a butter knife was in between him and his diamonds, knocking it out would be simple.

Eventually, Clud became a really despicable person. He invited himself in too often, and sometimes there was a person or two inside a cabin. At one point, he even did knock out a Halfling who had a butter knife. He didn’t really feel like knocking out that stupid Halfling. It wasn’t his fault though that the Halfling was stopping him from taking the gold nuggets. However, most of the time if he was outnumbered or outmatched Clud just fled like there was no tomorrow. Well, there wouldn’t be any tomorrow for him if he didn’t flee. One day though, fleeing did not help him when Pirates broke into his tavern room and took him away.

The sea of Pirates

A slave, that was what Clud became. Well, they left Clud with a deadly lute, but Clud would never be able to break out with something as puny as that. Clud started to play the lute instead. It was only a simple tune, but by the end all the other slaves in the brig were singing and shouting along. Even the guards were tapping their feet to the beat. Clud was about to play another tune when the Captain came down. Instead of getting his lute taken away, the Captain asked Clud to continue to play. The tune started up again, so everybody was singing and dancing along. At the end of the tune, the Captain quieted everybody down.

“We have a new musician aboard our ship!” the Captain shouted out.

What type of MAJOR RP have you participated in on this server:

The first major RP I experienced was the sand mining rebellion. You see, back then Oren didn’t have the greatest King. He did not care about his subjects. When some poor sand miners like me asked for a new sand mine, he simply told us no. We tried to do it peacefully; we tried to get a petition. However, it did not work. A rebellion blossomed, and blood was shed. The wandering wizard though, did not like it at all. It was saddening, but he put a stop to it. Us sand miners could have totally overthrown the king.

That was one the most major things I was in, mostly everything else is just lame dwarven things. Kings leaving, deaths of kings, coronations of new kings, etc. I’ve also participated in multiple arena championships, and I remember one time Kjell knocked me into a lava pillar to kill me. Then of course you have the lame Dwarven politics, which are really annoying. I often just watched people do stupid things, I never participated in any of them though. Ah yes, we were all silly dwarves.

Of course you had some undead back then. I was in multiple undead fights of the sort. It was quite fun going to those battles and things, I never really got why people hated the undead so much. You got a ton of staffs to sell, and a whole bunch of other loot. Only for the price of losing iron armor and a weapon if you were a crappy fighter. Good times.

Well, that’s most of the interesting stuff.

References(at least 2 good references to your RP ability. Yes, I will be contacting them): Hmm, well I guess you could talk to Hiebe as he’s known me since I first killed him and his buddies. You could also talk to Kilgrim as I’ve killed him multiple times with a shovel.
