Adoption in Oren

 Share

Recommended Posts

A flier is posted around Oren, in all regions and posted on notice boards and lamps alike. It is written in fine printe

"People of Oren, this is your last reminder, Adoption is illegal

You may not adopt children into your family, as it has clearly been stated in the laws. It is an affront to God and will not be tolerated, no matter who you are. We will spare nobody a second thought if we find you guilty of this crime.

Any found guilty of adoption in any form could be subject to a variety of punishments such as:

Public beatings

Fining heavily

Stripping if all titles and land

Indentured servitude

Or death if it continues

This is a serious crime that will not be overlooked. Investigations will start to be made of all houses, and then upon the rest in descending order of status. This is your int warning, and we will be going through noble records and conducting random searches.

-High Inquisitor Patrick Horen

It is signed and stamped

( Basically adoption is illegal. If you had read the laws you would know that and we aren't going to overlook it anymore as we are doing reforms and holding up our laws more )

(Ooc: Seriously? The only reasoning Oren has for no adoptions is 'it is an affront to god?' The Catholic church that Oren's religion is based around allows for adoption. Quite frankly, most Christ-based religions encourage it! But, silly law is silly, back to RP)

*Kathryn notices the poster as she walks in Arethor and frowns as she reads it. She remembers how she spent most of her life as an orphan until she found her family and sighs.*

"Well, maybe it will keep father from bringing home as many stray children to look after."

*She takes one of the posters, stuffing it into a pocket to show her husband and her father later.*

As Aelys walks through Arethor to return to Ildon, she spots the notice. She reads it over and her eyes begin to water, her thoughts drifting to her first daughter, adopted. She says to herself quietly "How can they outlaw something so joyful...?"

She sighs, deciding to take this up with Kyral later.

[[ Orenian religion is unrelated to Christianity, save for a few superficial differences. ]]

*Uthor Chuckles as he walks by many people sighing that adoption is suppoesly illegal. Even though he himself and his wife Countess Winter Silverblade adopted a child and raised them. Godfrey and all of Oren knew yet none cared. and he Shrugs and then goes to speak to the ones passing by* "Adoption may noy be legal, a damn odd thing...this never even passed through the pontiffs... Either way taking "wards" are not Illegal though.. So if ye take a kid as a ward tis good"

*Rose stands in front of one of the posters, reading it. She finishes the read and lets out a sigh.*

"And I thought the Church would be the last resort for those without parents..." *she mumbles to herself.*

Trumping about Arethor, Thomas comes across the note pinned to the wall of the tavern he most frequents. Squinting his eyes to get a better read, he soon smiles after finishing, nodding approval.

"Heh. Good. Maybe now these Noble families can retain wot little noble blood they 'ave left, stead of pickin' boys off the street to become one of 'em."

Ending his sentance with a grunt, he plods into the tavern, proceeding with all the formalities an evening of drinking would entail.

((In short, I believe this is to insure only by founding a noble house, or being born into it are the only ways to be noble. You may not be adopted into a family. We have enough nobles as it is, it would make little sense if literally anyone could be a noble. As stated however, wards are not illegal, as you are merely raising a child, tutoring them, taking them in until they are grown. This does not mean they are apart of your family however.))
