A Letter To Nobility

A streak of black found its way across the parchment, from the bottom to the upper middle, cutting through several lines of carefully scribed words. She let out a slow, controlled breath of air, calmly setting the quill aside and beginning to fold the paper neatly in two as she called out over her shoulder.

“Another parchment, please. I am afraid I’ve made a mess of this one. And set a kettle on for tea while you are downstairs.”

With that, the servant was gone, and Ari turned her head to her left, looking to the small chaise where sat a young woman, no more than 18 years of age, with darker blonde hair hung up in tight curls, staring intently at the pages of a book. Princess Ryder looked up from the girl’s side, tilting her head in slight concern.

“Are you certain you don’t want me to write those for you, Ari? Your shoulder is still...”

Ari shook her head almost immediately in response as she forced a small smile onto her lips. “No. This demands I write it with my own hand, no matter the struggle. Though I wonder how pathetic that makes me, that I need struggle to simply write letters.” She let out a laugh somehow lacking of any bitterness as Ryder frowned, the girl sitting beside her looking up curiously.  Ryder sighed lightly, looking to the girl at her side and placing her finger at the start of a paragraph. “Read through that next. You’ll need to know it by heart.” A proud smile crossed Ari’s lips as the girl nodded with a mix of anxiety and determination.

The servant returned shortly, laying a piece of fine, thick parchment in front of the Imperial Crown Princess. Ari handed her the one on which she had erred, to be thrown to the flames. She set the tip of her quill into a small glass jar, bringing it carefully to the paper and beginning to write anew, speaking quietly. “I do not know how they will react to this, but the Emperor has requested it.”

Sometime later when the letters are finished she has them sent out by courier to every Lord who serves under the Empire, great and small.  Each letter is prefaced with a cordial greeting and the noble gentleman’s full title then the following message.

It is on behalf of the wishes of our Great and Grand Emperor, His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Godfrey I of Horen, absolute ruler of our Great and Grand Empire, that I write to you with a request. As per the instructions of the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty, a cordial invitation is extended to the unwed daughters of all the Noble Lords of the Empire, should such daughter be had by them. Should you have no daughters, we apologize for the disturbance and request this letter be disregarded. The presence of these maidens of noble lineage is requested at the Imperial Palace in Abresi, where they will be invited to become Ladies-In-Waiting in the Emperor’s court. Here they will learn the proper duties and mannerisms of a woman of noble birth from the ladies of the Emperor’s family.

Accommodations befitting their titles and birth shall be provided and at least one member of their family, if you as their Lord Father cannot accompany them yourself, is requested to escort them to the Palace. Should you have any requests or specifications as to their care, dietary needs, or tutelage, you are more than welcome to make these known. Be advised that these noble ladies, in the best interest of their health and wellbeing, will not be permitted to leave Abresi without an escort, as is only proper for a lady of their standing. The Imperial Household eagerly awaits your response and, hopefully, the impending arrival of our honored guests.

Signed from the desk of,

Ari Horen, Wife of Imperial Crown Prince Horen V, and Imperial Crown Princess.

((If your family name isn't on the Empire thread, you don't get one. Also, only the heads-of-family receive one. They can choose to share it with the others in their family if they wish.))

Laila reads over the letter and sighs. She closes her eyes having sneaked into the castle. "I doubt they would let Kaila take part." she says softly. She closes her eyes and sets the letter back into Garth's desk before heading back to where she had been hiding.

Elene brings the tea to Uthor's study, as he mulls over letters, she peers over his shoulder, as he hands her the letter sent above, she smiles, lightly, listening to the laughter of her child, Vivenne, in the other room. She looks down, nodding slightly...

"I think it would be a good opportunity for her, to meet other girls and learn from them. Besides, I'd like to....What is it your friend Thomas always says? 'Keep her in the Dark about Military Secrets?' I'd rather not let her know what goes on around the walls of Abresi..."

((If you are a Lady of Oren, unwed, and will be coming to the Palace to learn manners and what not, or if you are a Lord and will be sending your daughter/other relative, please post so here along with the Lady's MCName and RP name. I've got outside tutors coming in and I'd like them to be able to check and see if any of their students are only before making the trek to the Palace.
