The Return Of The Tree

((Although unlikely, if a Dryad connects to the tree, there will be no odd change unlike any other Dryad. All trees have personality, it's simply that The Grumpy Tree is more active than most, but that's all. The only thing that would happen is the Dryad would be very grumpy, along with the tree itself...))

An early morning, the sun crisp as it leans over the fields of the Hobbits. A beautiful day, waiting for adventure to take place in it's yards and lands, between the families young and together. Today, though, a new item joins in on the game, one yet to be fully grown nor to be fully happy...

The hollows of trunks are in the breeze, but so is that of a new, born tree. A Maple tree, but not a regular one, no. This tree is understanding, sentient if you will, as it can speak (To itself) and understand, and even move freely, thinking. It's blood line leads through many years, many trees, all equally the same, and equally upset. Long before any humans had walked the lands were the tree had come, it lived alone, and in quiet solitude, or, as it enjoys, "Simple Oblivion...". You can make up your mind on how one got to the island of Hobbits in Kalos, far from anyone...

It was here that the tree found it's first intelligent being, even if the Halflings are not smartest of all. It's roots (and with the roots, it's ears) ran wide through the island, and beyond. How far we do not know, but we suspect far as it picked up quickly on our language and cultures far and wide. The Tree (he liked to call himself "Bob" or "Herbert" for reasons unknown) had a very keen like of the small ones, even if they were too blind to realize him. Maybe it was by fate or luck, that a Druid came by, talking to the tree and the Hobbits alike, or maybe something else, but it's certain that the Tree disliked everything...

He disliked Hobbits, disliked Humans, disliked political battles, wars, literature, learning, he disliked cultures, languages, accents, boats, water, dirt, stone, mountains, wide open fields.... well, you understand. Let's understand, as the Hobbits did, that "Dislike" is not "Hate", and this is what The Grumpy Tree felt, himself. This race, the race of Halflings? He felt more at home with them than he would have with anyone else, and he blended well, and yes, grew to love them.

This is when our story grows sad, though. Much fighting, hate, and bitterness around the loving race had strained the Tree's mind. He was, always yes, Grumpy, but with the ideal of love, and than to hate and the belittling of such a peaceful race... He went easily mad. Purity is easily destroyed by evil, and although at first glance The Grumpy Tree may not have seemed the most pure thing, it was more so than most living beings of this world. Maybe it was the Grumpy Tree himself who set the spark of his death fire, or maybe it was the evil that filled the world. Or maybe it was kindness and the ideal of "purity" itself, something so scarce and lost to the world that easily lost power, and thus set the flames out of mind set, not intention to kill.

Either way, the Tree was in for an ever lasting joke, as he grew a red fruit. Soft like a peach but dark red like blood. Thus who found it? Well, none other than young Bili Hollowmead, a cheerful fellow who bound himself to being a clean chap. This didn't set well, though, and the taste of the fruit ruined the boy's mouth, not to mention it ruined his teeth, biting down on a hard seed. This didn't sit well the him, and it was traded off to Richard Willowswamp, a grumpy Hobbit who cared for the Tree, mostly.

Traded hands, maybe? Taken back to Bili, or stayed with Richard? Lost? Sold? Either way, it was out of reach for the Hobbits, as they had no idea where it was. Until today, that is, as it's back. Why? Well how do we know... Go ask the Tree yourself...

"There was once a grumpy tree. It was the biggest tree in the forest, and it didn't need its shadow for anything. However, the tree would never share its shadow with any of the animals, and wouldn't let them come anywhere near.

One year, the autumn and winter were terrible, and the tree, without its leaves, was going to die of cold. A little girl, who went to live with her grandma that winter, found the tree shivering, so she went to get a great big scarf to warm the tree up. The Spirit of the Forest appeared and told the little girl why that tree was so solitary, and why no one would help him. Even so, the girl decided to put the scarf on the tree.

The next springtime, the tree had learned from the girl's generosity, and when she sat next to the trunk the tree bent down to shade her from the sun. The Spirit of the Forest saw this and went to tell all the animals. He told them that from then on they would be able to shade themselves well, because the tree had learned that having kind and generous beings around makes the world a much better place to live in."

*Aris chuckles walking up to the grumpy tree and touching it's trunk. He steps out of the way as a branch falls from it's lower boughs narrowly avoiding a large scratch on the cheek. Aris turns around mumbling*

  "Well 'ello to ye too!

((Now what I would like to see is a Dryad bonded to that tree))

((Me and Ever talked about this a little but I'll get something posted on this later...))

((Ooo, I forgot to mention! The Dryad WOULD change physically. I'm not sure how, since there's never been a "Grumpy Tree Dryad" before... It'd be up to the skinner to decide, though I would accept/deny, of course.))

Pats the tree trunk, grunting as the familiar apple falls onto his head.

"Good t' see ya back lad."

Talks to the tree, pouring ale onto it's roots, tossing the fruit it grew playfully as the tree he had grown to love and cherish in Kalos had re grown and taken on a new life in Anthos.
