[05/18/13] Gm Q&a

 Share

Recommended Posts

Shortly after the GM meeting we decided to hold a public Q&A. Below is a list of the questions asked during the session and the answers that relate to them. Keep in mind that some questions were missed and irrelevant ones were not included.

_____

Q. What is the progress of the LotC client and is it still a valid idea?

A. No progress has been made as of yet. An official client is planned, but the coders have not yet begun in this point in time.

Q. Are dragons a strong possibility?

A. Dragons have already been revealed on the server. They live in The North, but they have not shown themselves lately due to unknown events. This will be revealed relatively soon.

Q. Who will be the Magic Team leader for shamans?

A. Mogroka.

Q. Will there be any information released about the main antagonist in the near future?

A. One to two weeks approximately, although they have already been released.

Q. Why are so many racial restrictions placed on the orc race?

A. Race restrictions are placed on each and every race. The orc racial leaders requested the difficulty of becoming an orc in order to maintain their unique culture and roleplay.

Q. Can we get rid of the knockout plugin so that we can get people back on the road?

A. We would have to hold a vote in order to decide. It would have to be discussed more on the forums.

Q. Will the magic plugin be reconsidered?

A. We are currently working on a new magic plugin from scratch.

Q. Will the Nether ever be partially or fully accessible for resources?

A. We highly doubt it. Many of the resources obtainable from the Nether are accessible through other ways in Anthos.

Q. What will the professions plugin do?

A. It is mainly a buff system. We are trying to avoid any kinds of restrictions as much as possible. The only restriction currently present is that you cannot craft diamond armor.

Q. What are the plans for un-regioning in Anthos?

A. We were originally going to un-region everything, but plans have changed. Currently, we do not know what we will do exactly. However, natural areas of beauty will be protected (mountains, ruins, etc).

Q. What is going on with diamond and iron mines?

A. The diamond mines will not be released for quite some time now. Similar to the coal mines, iron mines will soon be slowly revealed one by one as time progresses.

Q. What do the staff presently think of VAs, and are there any thoughts of reforming them?

A. No. If anything were to be changed, there would have to be another VA purge which would not be desirable.

Q. What will happen with PvP? Will it be default?

A. This is an RP server, and not a PvP or factions server. People will always try to argue that RP fighting has powergaming, but if this happens to be the case then you should report the player in question. This has been discussed for a very long time, and what it comes down to is that everyone will have a different opinion on which system is best. In the end we are a roleplay server and not a PvP server.

Q. Will there be grinding in the skills plugin?

A. There will be no grinding for levels in the skills plugin. It will be based on time, and after a certain period of time everyone will receive a set amount of experience.

Q. Is the current war system permanent?

A. There is currently a difference of opinions on the matter. We are in the process of brainstorming ideas. For the most part the rules have been decided, but the system is not. There will likely be a public discussion after the administration and moderation teams have had a formal discussion.

Q. What is going to happen with horses in 1.6?

A. We are currently going over ideas, which will eventually lead to a public poll. We have not yet decided as we have a difference of opinions.

Q. Will NPCs return?

A. NPCs will likely return, but not as a VIP reward. They will be for GM/event use only.

Q. Will we see “resource mines” for certain unobtainable resources?

A. GM merchants travel throughout Anthos frequently, and we use this method to distribute resources that often include unobtainable items.

Q. What is the future of the wilds, and will regions be added?

A. We are keeping them the way they are. However, we will soon be introducing numerous methods to RPly clean the wilds of abandoned structures and uninhabited homes.

Q. Are you allowed to run away with MC mechanics and then run into the Cloud Temple for safety?

A. No, that is abusing mechanics and essentially meta-gaming. If a player runs into the Cloud Temple to prevent themselves from dying, they will receive proper punishment from the moderation teams.

Q. Are we going to see a rule about roleplaying injuries?

A. If you OOCly accept the injury (such as the loss of a limb), you must roleplay the injury that your character has received throughout his lifetime. You cannot retreat to the Cloud Temple to be healed, as it would be considered powergaming.

Q. Can I buy more skill points with IRL money?

A. No, as it would result in players paying in order to win.

Q. Is one race’s nation allowed to conquer another race’s nation?

A. If one nation’s land was lost to another nation, it would ruin the future RP for the nation that lost the territory. An RP situation would likely occur to prevent such an event from occurring. We’ll be able to provide a more suitable response when we actually cross that bridge.

Q. Will more of The North be revealed soon?

A. Yes.

Q. Will we be seeing pugsy unbanned?

A. No.

Q. Is weapon technology going to advance from its current state?

A. We plan on staying in the medieval age within the foreseeable future. Crossbows are about as far ahead in technology that we are going to advance.

Q. What is the staff’s opinion on enchanting items?

A. It has to have lore and an acceptable reason.

Q. Can players roleplay crucifiction?

A. The short, final decision is yes. Players are able to roleplay crucifiction and similar forms of torture that are related to religion in real life.

Q. Will there be new races any time soon?

A. While it is not likely, there is always a possibility sometime in the distant future.

Q. What’s going on with the Dynamap?

A. We are currently working on an interactive map that will function similar to a Dynamap.

Q. If a player makes a Youtube video for LotC, can or will they receive rewards?

A. Yes, we are currently working on this idea.

Q. If a player alters their skin so that they have armor on it, does it count as having that armor?

A. If the player does not have the actual item in their inventory, then it is roleplayed as them not having it.

So, I might be confused, but if someone were to go out, roleplay getting armor, and skin it, it wouldn't count as armor in roleplay? Or is this referring to last minute changes?

I got to ask the first question. It's kind of like getting the first present Christmas eve, except this isn't as rewarding.

If they don't have the armor in their inventory, they are not able to RP having armor on, if it is painted on their minecraft skin.  If you have armor on your skin, then you can RP it if you have it in your inventory.

Let us say, in the process of your death you lose a limb. If you then RPly die and get healed at the cloud temple then would you keep the limb?

If you are cut to pieces during the murder process and the monks heal you, then you will be "put back together." However, if someone asks for OOC consent for them to sever your hand and you give them permission, then you must accept the consequences of losing your hand.

I don't like this answer.

If you are not strong enough to keep and defend your nation by force and someone decides to invade and take it over, why on earth should you get a free pass and have some kind of wonky, forced, scripted RP event happen just to make sure that the 'RP is ruined'? If you cannot defend yourself and lose in a legitimate war, then there is no good reason why you should not lose land. Being invaded by a military force is an entirely RP action, and circumventing the results of said RP with a bogus event that stops it is not a good idea. There's tons of RP which comes from this kind of thing; dealing with occupation, underground movements, et-cetera.

Why would you even ask a question like this? I know there are no stupid questions, but come on. If LotC ever allowed PVP into an all the time thing without the consent of the other party, then LotC would turn into a server like all of the rest. And I don't think, you as a community, want that. LotC is a unique experience and if there was ever a time that PVP was no longer "optional", then I would sooner find a better and fully Role playable server.

I don't come onto LotC for the PVP, I come on for the Role play. And people should always be respected for that decision. You want PVP, find another server that allows you to vent all of that pvp out of your system. THEN come back when you feel like Role playing again ;)

Mhh, what if he dies afterwards?

What if he heads imidiatly to the monks to get healed?

I ask this because cutting parts of someone is part of many types of torture rp, and they ask permission to do it in OOC because most of the torturers are actually very nice people, and don't want to go too far if the other player isn't confortable.

So my most fundamental question is, if they ask in OOC to cut a limb, or ask in OOC to cut the limb and as well ask to have it permanently removed?

The entire point behind it is to avoid a single race from dominating the entire server. Like the answer said, we don't actually have any method that we'd use to stop this if it occurred, however, it is likely that we would be forced to step in and end it if something like it did happen - e.g. let's say the humans took over everything, we'd likely need to stop it, as that's not the direction that the server is ever to go in. When it comes to inter-racial disputes, that's different - as that doesn't result in a single race having control of the entire server.

I agree with Tornado. It is entirely rp, and can create rp if done right.

Now hold on.

What would the problem be with humanity dominating everything, as long as the other races are not experiencing wholesale genocide? People being under the dominion of foreign rule has happened often in real life, and there is no reason it should not be allowed to happen here.
