A Reminder On Status Updates

 Share

Recommended Posts

It's interesting how similar U.S (At least I think only U.S) polotics and this server are when it comes to freedoms... I'm not saying that sarcastically, it seriously is interesting.

Anyways...

No one's taking away your freedom. They're simply saying "don't say stuff like 'Blah blah sucks ***'" seeing as that could hurt someone. No one's saying "ALL YOUR FREEDOM ARE BELONG TO US!" or anything like that. Not to mention, as Grool has said, it is indeed just a game. If you aren't happy with the way things are running, you can always just leave. If it's making you this angry, then there's no sense in staying.

I personally don't see why people have such beef with the staff... The vast majority of staff i've talked with are polite and helpful. For instance, I talked to Danny before I sent in my app for the server, and didn't get back to me until I was accepted and he congratulated me on being accepted, and said he hoped I had fun.

Sure, maybe some staff members do say the wrong thing, but they're humans, not oiled up machines. Assuming they're going to say the exact thing everyone wants and make everyone on the server happy is simply insane. Rules like "Don't say harmful things on status updates" is nothing new. They're not limiting things by saying "You must always kiss the ass of the staff!". I'm not sure where people are getting that from. Probably their own assumptions... It's simply a rule to keep people from running through the forums and screaming random curses at anyone on the server.

If you have a beef with someone, talk to them in Skype, Teamspeak, something other than statuses and duke it out there. simple as that.

Very well put, going into skype is a great idea that I think people should follow, as long as it does not into You are a F***ing **** go die in a ****ing hole, because I am ashamed to admit it, but I could see that happening, in fact I have seen a similar case like that happen.

Flaming is a modern concept for spoilt internet brats. It does not happen in the real world and the sooner you can get it out of your system the better you'll be at existing in an adult society.

There is right to opinions and then there is unnecessary snark. If you do not know the difference then the GMs will kindly inform you where you overstep.

You bring up a valid point about the world not being  the same as here, however that is not always the case. I can honestly say that whatever I say to you here I will say to you in real life, however I consider myself to be a friendly person on both sides, however because I am human I do let off some steam on people, they let off more steam by yelling, or talking back, and and hour later we go on with our life, and ask about last night's hockey game.

Also irony, censorship hasn't been exacted to shut your mouths forcefully about a little reminder of age-old rules. Enjoy the various straw-men in the Topic at your leisure ;)

I'm not sure what you are meaning, could you re-state?

Alright. Honesty time, kiddos.

Gonna' have to side with the community on this one. While I'm absolutely fine with a reminder that lets people know they shouldn't go over the line, there's one giant bit that sets off a red flag in my head. That's the part with the word "ban".

. . . People can't say how they feel or the receive punishment, no matter how temporary?

I've never once fixed an issue (or even managed to avoid one) by sitting down and shutting up. Just because other people don't see the status update and don't have to deal with my emotions doesn't mean I don't. And isn't that the whole point of a "status" update? To inform people of your status? They're there so people know how other people feeeeeeeeel. It's just a huge world of feelings here. And as much as it sucks, feelings can get hurt sometimes.

Does that mean I think that people should just go and post "hey no 1 lik u" on their status updates? No. But they should be able to say they're discontent with a certain circumstance. And whether or not they get offended depends on the person, and people should pick and choose their words carefully to avoid stuff like this happening. Really, this is a reminder, and we've got seven pages of "he said" "she said" BS. It's not even necessary! We could all be Googling adorable cats right now, but we aren't, because we're fighting over something unnecessary, just like the status updates thing is unnecessary. Punishment: yes. Bans? No. Don't think that's necessary. If someone crosses a line, yeah, you can send them a ban, but that line should be seriously making someone feel worse about themselves. Not

"oh hey the lunch I had this afternoon wasn't good"

"U R DISGRACE GET OUT OF MY HOUSE"

Long story short: Let's not discuss it.

Not to hurt any feelings, but we don't need to YELL at each other on here. Please retain your decency and speak in a civilized manner. Unfortunately, most of us have opinions and brains and whatnot, and discussion's fun!

Referring to post above, of course.

I'd send it to you in a PM or something but I feel like this is the perfect place to say it.

I wasn't trolling you or anything. I was looking for a bit of comedy. And this is kind of exactly what I think everyone's mentioning.

None of this would be necessary if you just didn't get offended or anything. I completely accept you voicing your opinion, but frankly, you're kinda' being a pr*ck about it. Pardon the French.

So I won't reply again.

Let's say your in Middle School, and you call your friend a lot of bad words.

You'd be sent to the principals office, and probably be sent to detention.

Now, let's say your on a Minecraft server, and you call a GM or another player a lot of bad words.

Similarly, you'd be punished.

I don't see what's wrong with any of this. Does being punished for calling your friend a lot of bad words at school make your Principal a Communist who wants to do everything in his/her power to censor up everything? Of course not!

Though, I guess I can understand why people are upset over the rule against questioning bans/arguing about IC events. There could be some really nicely written posts in the status messages that may be beneficial, though... to be honest, it's really rare when you see a status message like that. If you want to rant about something... You got a computer right in front of your face. There's Skype, there's Gmail, there's... I don't know, TS or something. You can easily ramble on and on about something to your friends to blow off a steam. Then there's PMs, Forum Posts (Have you seen the Feedback and Bugs section? It's mighty useful). They're not BANNING the WHOLE internet, they're restricting like 1 / 18932427947923749237492374123421412341235th of it. Honestly, they're not even going to REGULATE it harshly anyways, I'm SURE you can still complain about things as long as it's nicely written with a calm and controlled mind (Have you considered meditation? It helps. Sort of... I mean, it certainly DID end up helping Hulk!).

And last but not least... Does it honestly matter? It's STATUS MESSAGES. Seriously, how many people even SEE your status message before it is buried by other status'? If you REALLLLY want to argue about free speech, how about starting from... you know, actual meaningful things that are happening all around you in REALITY? From the actual problems that are happening in the US, or wherever you're at. Not from... this tiny box in a tinier corner of a gigantic forum that honestly isn't that IMPORTANT at all.

But you know what I think is important?

Kittens.

SDFDSFSLDKGJSDLJLKSDGLKSD... That was me rolling around my keyboard.

Oh? You're not a cat fan... Then you're certainly...

A DOG FAN! (Not literally... a fan made out of a do-- You get my point. >:I)

Awwdaaw.

Nyeggghhh.

See? Don't you feel so much better now? Cats and dogs solve all life problems.

Except poverty... and Global Warming... and high unemployment rates... YOU GET WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY. ;m;

EDIT: Oh geez. My post editor is really hating my guts. And I thought my guts were already hated on enough. It's okay guts... I still love you. ;m;

What the.. Seriously guys, the staff have said over and over again, you are allowed to voice discontent and your opinions.
You are just not allowed to flame, belittle and make snide and insulting remarks about people on status updates. If you have problems with staff decisions, for example ban decisions (since this seems to be a popular one) then privately talk to staff members, rather than posting obnoxious status updates. Now I'm not saying all these status updates are obnoxious.. But far too many are.

This thread might as well just have read as "Stop being little bitches on/when posting statuses." because that's all that needs to happen, is that really so hard?
