A Reminder On Status Updates

 Share

Recommended Posts

Y'know I don't say it enough but in the name of nerdcubed "holy t*t balls!" This has gotten outa hand fast. Guys. This was already rules on the server. Rules you can read. And what is this talk about impeding your right to speak freely. Y'know there's a fine line between being able to speak freely and just being an arse. If you're so stricken dead at the fact you can't slander someone in a couple of seconds or make some remark that isn't quite needed this probably answers a very big question as to why the community is becoming an increasingly large pile of dog excrement pretty nicely. If something is really bugging you then the answers have already been given to you in this very thread as to how to deal with them. And that is to either make a thread that /constructively/ points out the issue or else speak to those who can actually do something about it in private. Do you really all think scattershotting your putrid hate/angst/grievances/issues across the most clumsy of medians which is the status updates will do anything to fix the issues? No. That's your answer. No. It will not.

Y'know what I think? I think a few too many people like to be mixers. They like to cause this kinda trouble and are bitterly defending their so called "right" to do so because they don't want to solve the issues. They simply like the drama and willingly fuel it. To you mixers all I can say is that you are the scat of the underbelly's muck that is this server and I would be quite happy, as would others to see you leave.

Nobody said you were. But I was talking about RP. As someone who follows the rules of the server, I never let OOC influence my RP, to the fullest extent a human possibly can. My character, seeing that the Blackmonts pretty much stomped on the other forces (in her own opinion), she thought that maybe working alongside them was a good idea.

Nothing more. Maybe the fact you're so jittery and quick to jump into an argument like this is half of the problem itself.

I am jittery to jump to the argument. Yes of course. Who wouldnt be on the teutonic order side? We are order to stay quiet and not to come here to gloat about our winnings or talk about our losses or be rude to the people who throw hate at us. I am trying to be nice enough to say to everyone to just stop with all the status's that get spammed after large battles or skirmishes and cause everyone to get upset. Coming into OOC and gloating about it in OOC really pokes some nerves on people. I think it would be best if we didnt have status's in general. It would help solve a lot of problems. With the war and everything freya, I didnt mean to come off as rude. But the distinction of your RP and OOC message on the forums felt like another jab and a fan to the flames on my side. A distinction to stop that would be adding something like "My character..." Its hard to make out the moods through text and the clear meanings.

Examples of these infractions can include:

  • Questioning bans Policy currently is that any ban dispute be solved by contacting the GM team.
  • Arguing about IC events - Policy currently is clear that issues of OOC nature are to be handled properly, otherwise flaming just incurs.  See http://www.lordofthe...to-ooc-conflict
  • Snide, Angry, or Sarcastic protesting of Admin/GM/FM/VAT/MAT/AT etc actions You may notice a pattern here, these things need to be handled privately, properly, and not in a way that can start a flame war.
  • Offensive material of any kind - Links to pornographic content, racist or hateful material, etc. is strictly against the rules.
  • Illegal content - Links to torrent sites or any type of illegal sharing/content websites are not tolerated on our board.

Arik, when I said status updates were getting out of hand...I mean almost none of these things. People can question our decisions, in fact I almost encourage them to say something if they feel we do something wrong. They can discuss IC events, they can debate and talk about it as much as they want. What I meant needed to be fixed was people flaming others in status updates, calling people out, complaining about IC things in an immature manner...trolling...that like.

We (or at least I) don't want to censor people. I don't want my job as a FM to be seen as oppressors or the no-fun police. When I think of FMs, I think of us as people who do our best to keep everyone on the fourms civil. To keep the forums a fun place without trolling and flaming. To keep discussions mature and respectful. Trying to silence the players isn't going to make the forums better. In fact, it'll make it worse.

Status's are perfectly welcome to show their discontent for anything, as long as it's not in a flaming manner.

Freya put it perfectly. You can express your opinion on almost anything, whether it be negative or positive, as long as it's done in a respectful, non-flame-y manner. I hope that clears things up. We're not trying to take away your rights, we're just trying to make the forums a place where people can have fun.

Listen. I am not targeting freya for her status. I am just merely saying that the status updates of trolling very soon after a war is rude and unwanted. If you guys won then sure. Go ahead and gloat. But do it in RP and dont bring it to the forums to start hate wars.

Look at the time of that report. Go back in time and look through the past status's from that time to current and look at all them. You cannot tell me that they arent heated in any way. There was a good 10+ status's over that report just in general. Freya's being one of them in that time period.

I remember quite a lot of Teuton gloating OOC'ly over the victory in the field, which led to the siege of the Dreadfort in the first place... I also remember Teutons OOC'ly declaring the siege their victory. Most 'gloating' from the Dreadfort's troops side has happened in direct response to the Teutons denying the victory. Which doesn't justify their OOC gloating, but 't is not the subject at hand.

I agree that you don't need to be a jerk around people. I mean, we're all roleplayers. We all enjoy this one thing, which unites us all, which makes us actors in this world of Anthos. With our masks on, we can fight and hate the other masks. With our masks off, we should congratulate each other on our performances, and give advice where due. The OOC part of the forums is 'masks off'. There's no need for antagonizing, not in statuses, not in threads... But, feedback is given. As long as this feedback is decent 'n mature, should there be any reason to muffle it?

Take the case of Urara being banned, and her posting a status on it...

Should we not post on the status, regardless of feeling that she's been wronged?

Regardless of desiring to show your support to someone?

In all serious, I missed the drama.

What happened?

Post about flaming became irony incarnate. Not much else to it, really.

That is an attitude that I am asking kindly, re-read these words as I am perhaps one of the chillest people you may run into, do not go about seeking drama.

See, I posted on the status because I felt that the reasons for the ban were wrong.

I agree with you, in that players should be allowed to post about who they support, and who they don't.

As hunwald said earlier in the thread, flame wars are good, to an extent.

Everyone needs to let off some steam every so often, and I think we should be allowed to do that.

There are much better methods to do this Arthal, such as going outside and taking a deep breathe.

You know, if he actually did make a thread, it would be immediately shut down for "flames" and people spamming pictures of water and fires. It's the server community's reaction to anything that goes against the norm.

If that so true, then I reveal onto you another method of communication; one that you personally have as well. Message me in Skype or a Forum PM if you fear such.

I believe that flame wars allow players to get their true feelings out and yell at each other for a bit, then they die down and everything fixes itself. Flame wars are good.

I fully agree with this statement, everyone needs to get a little yelling out every once in  a while, or they would just go insane, it is how we work, however with that begin said, we still need to keep a hold of it, a small fire in a closed off area is fine, but if it spreads to a home it does alot of damage. (I decided to refer to fires because it is a /Flame/ war.))

Flaming is a modern concept for spoilt internet brats. It does not happen in the real world and the sooner you can get it out of your system the better you'll be at existing in an adult society.

There is right to opinions and then there is unnecessary snark. If you do not know the difference then the GMs will kindly inform you where you overstep.

It is a ******* game, get over yourselves.

This, so much this.

Why are we all getting mad on what we write on some side-bar for a mine craft server?  (This message goes for staff members as well as members.)
