A Reminder On Status Updates

 Share

Recommended Posts

Recently the staff has noticed that rather than direct drama onto forum posts (where FMs and GMs are able to moderate and lock flamey threads, delete spam, etc), members have been taking to the status updates to post about things they dislike (and people).  Please note that it is not acceptable to do so.  FMs/GMs do not maintain permissions to moderate these areas due to security issues with how the forum software is set up, so only Admins are allowed these privileges.

This doesn't mean you are exempt from the rules!

Examples of these infractions can include:

  • Questioning bans - Policy currently is that any ban dispute be solved by contacting the GM team.
  • Arguing about IC events - Policy currently is clear that issues of OOC nature are to be handled properly, otherwise flaming just incurs.  See http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/84100-a-radical-end-to-ooc-conflict
  • Snide, Angry, or Sarcastic protesting of Admin/GM/FM/VAT/MAT/AT etc actions - You may notice a pattern here, these things need to be handled privately, properly, and not in a way that can start a flame war.
  • Offensive material of any kind - Links to pornographic content, racist or hateful material, etc. is strictly against the rules.
  • Illegal content - Links to torrent sites or any type of illegal sharing/content websites are not tolerated on our board.

If members continue to post content that is inappropriate warnings will be issued, and bans will be made.  We ask that you use your judgement and restraint when posting via status updates, if it helps, just put kitties in each one!

Seems like rather unnecessary rules. Let the players announce their discontent.

These rules are not new, they aren't unnecessary and they aren't absurd or ridiculous.  This is a re clarification of people using the GM/FM inability to use permissions in status updates to their advantage by actually not following these policies there.

Sadly, I feel such a post is needed too, as there has been a startling increase of forum drama centered directly around posts in status updates.  It is simply a reminder for the future.  :)

Yet more of my freedoms are taken from me. :-(

It has become Respiren 2.0. All hope is lost.

Regardless, back on topic.

Status's are perfectly welcome to show their discontent for anything, as long as it's not in a flaming manner.

You of all people should know that.

Learn that using a privately owned channel of communication does not have the benefit of enjoying the US Constitution unless it was government property :3

Was it needed? Does not matter, let a reminder be had.

It's really just to prevent people from posting things that degenerate into flame wars that we cannot control.  Those are already our rules in the rest of the forum and are enforced.

But Arik. Everything is fuel for the flames. Better remove all the fuel from the world. It's the only way to be safe, right?

I believe that flame wars allow players to get their true feelings out and yell at each other for a bit, then they die down and everything fixes itself. Flame wars are good.

I don't think that the GM's or FM's do a particularly satisfactory job. I disagree with their decisions, and I think the server is imploding on itself because of many overly bureaucratic decisions. Here is more of the bureaucracy that causes new players to reject this server and drives old ones off.

Quite frankly, that is a foul shot in that first line :3

Discontent is fine, bitching markedly gets quite annoying. I had to sit down a player about why taking real-life [and Facebook] photos and degrading people is just allowing invective to pour through the conduct of people ICly.

^ Exactly.

Nobody said anything about discontent.  You're looking too far into it.  It's snide sarcasm or angry ranting that starts flames and insulting, etc.

This was posted due to recent events, with people openly antagonizing and harassing other players in the status updates, and refusing warnings to stop. It is meant to remind people who seem to forget that the forum rules apply to status updates aswell. This is not limiting your freedom of speech, as these rules were already in place. People thinking that they weren't shows that this was needed.
