I agree we should do more events, though it's hardly possible with less than three people in Kal'Azgoth at anyone time.  The main issue we face with Kal'Azgoth is there's no roleplay. Or to put it simply, nothing to do and so our players move to other more active areas. For example Vaerhaven, Malinor and Oren. Our holds have nothing mostly to do with this, rather they actually encourage people to go see our capital city. Since it's the capital city for their Kingdom. Again it's distance, it's far easier to reach Malinor or an Orenian city and do something. Rather than walking the down the arduoas road towards Kal'Azgoth. Another thing that's not really been mentioned often is that we've changed. We're pretty much a pvp centralized nation at the moment. With our players logging in for war and battles. Getting bored if they're not pvping. So a few points on what to do:

  • More Organised Events/Events in general. The issue with this is you can organised a event, but you have to be aware no one may turn up. So it's a 50/50 thing. Also as I mentioned earlier Kal'Azgoth is pretty empty even at peak times.
  • Distance. This I feel is the key problem, look at Oren, pretty much situated on main roads and easy to access. Malinor has a diversion from Cloud Temple that makes it a lot easier to get to their city. We need something like this, someone had the suggestion of making a railway. This would certainly be interesting but with the lack of iron I'm not sure it's viable.
  • More drive towards Dwarven RP. Rather than just pvp, turning us into midget humans with accents.

Rather crude points, but those are the main things I feel. Destroying holds won't necessarily fix that. It's more we need a group effort from the Dwarves, otherwise we're gonna sink.

Quick Edit: I agree there are too many holds, for example we shouldn't even have one in the Marsh. IC sense wise and generally from OOC sensibility. Kal'Rin is pretty much just a hollowed shell, because there is a dungeon next to it. Barbek, Kastoria, Brom'Khra as suggested need to be condensed and made smaller. For example getting rid of Brom'Khra as a town and making it into a river fort with farmlands surrounding it. Kastoria needs to be downsized, it's size needs to match is population. Vaerhaven is fine, I mean it doesn't really need to expand since it's pretty huge. But they pretty much have something going with being the Villain capital of the Kingdom.  Dal Cais... Just Dal Cais, doing their own thing.

Well right now Kastoria is getting completely destroyed and built in a different style for its new purpose. The city will be built around festivities, and events like carnivals and perhaps random gypsy caravans coming by, so hopefully that will bring some RP into Kastoria as well as its surrounding lands like Brom'ka, Barbek, and that massive tree in between Kastoria and Barbek.

Also, I do not see any use for Barbek as it is just used for farms. I know that the nation has an abundant supply of potatoes, meat, wheat, and carrots, and do not need a food source that big. Also Storms Crossing is right next to Barbek so it would serve no real purpose in a war to be honest.

With the upcoming famine event, that abundant supply will vanish.

Ill answer all concerns one by one as they come as I do not feel like reading through five pages.

Ill address the largest concern as I am the Jarl of Barbek. So far Barbek has provided the most food for the war along with leasing land for gathering massive amounts of feathers at no cost, while providing seeds to breed the chickens and situating  war supplies without being in direct fire like storms crossing. Barbek also has a reasonable strategic point that will keep potential threats from entering through the back and attacking the WEAKEST point of Storms Crossing, along with some other unmentionable doo-dads that would only BENEFIT the Kingdom. I haven't been as active as I wish as I will be starting college in some few months and I just made my first ever car purchase and have been working on that.

For activity. I am, Emberhard, and a few others are fairly active. I seem to have a curse that if I'm not in the server every day people seem to dissapear, and some of my most active players have been banned or forced away due to real life events (Koal for example) And the Embertree brewery in Barbek contributes large amounts of brews for free. I myself cleared out my silos to donate to the war effort, even stacks of coal and cooked over a double chest of potatoes and gave extra earlier in the war. I was more than willing to donate over a double chest of cobble, coal, and even many stacks of stone and stone bricks that are sitting in my storage. I've also lent money to specific people for iron armor, along with most of the people in my regions are ALREADY apart of the Legion. If there's more concerns or you question what I have said here just PM me, its easier for me to get PM's then address them on this thread. If this does go through, I want the entire process IC or I will refuse to allow Barbek to be touched.

Just because I am not as active in the server doesn't mean I don't keep up to date on events.

You might be informed by the forums but what you probably don't know is Storm's Crossing is very safe. Storm's Crossing doesn't have the weakest point anymore, it's all ready for war and Barbek being so accessible doesn't change the fact that it's the strongest hold we have. Even Kal'Azgoth is easier to enter. We've been working very fast and efficiently (at least some of us)and completed the job. You might be informed by the forums but what you probably don't know is Storm's Crossing is very safe.

Which is why we should encourage all the dwarves return to Azgoth and make that the center of dwarven rp, everyone else (Humans, Elves, etc) could stay in their towns and continue the roleplay. That doesn't mean we can't go there and get the resources we need.

Its not only the forums, its skype and teamspeak that I go through and listen to events. Storms crossing is NOT ready for war. As I recall there are still very little seige weapons on the top of the hold yet (And I was just recently ingame to see it), along with Charles_Grimlie I believe wishing to have the walls curved to help deflect catapults, trebuchets, ballistas, and to slow down seige ladders/towers; A technique that I very well know how to build as I and Boingy built the walls of Holm in Asulon to be curved for such a thing.

Now could Storms Crossing takes its beating and dish it back out? YES. But Storms Crossing is yet to be fully battle ready.

Concerning Barbek being very accessible. Yes it is and I've been working in trying to fix such a problem, most of it is because people climb the mountains into Barbek and gate signs, even while locked, are still able to be opened by everyone. I believe I just need to update the gate designs as Barbek wouldn't be considered much of a "fresh" hold. But a combination of outside events and trying to build a design have slowed it. If I could have some players pitch their designs to me I can try and work off of that and make it look even better if need be. And it seems both Storms Crossing's region and the "Elder tree" elf settlement have both interfered into my regions, so its even more difficult on my part.

On the part of encouraging dwarves to return underground. Not all dwarves enjoy the underground. My character, while very indifferent on above ground and below ground cities, would rather live above ground. Its an IC preference and it really shouldn't be decided OOCly on what to do about holds because I am sure I am not the only one that has a character that enjoys above ground just a wee bit more than underground; and forest dwarves live in forests above ground, and Barbek was supposed to be the Hold that housed them in the mushroom forest but alas there are so very few forest dwarves.

I think the Antagonist or some other monstrous beast would be a good way to rply clear out some of the dwarven holds. Also makes for great events.

The Dwarven mini antag comes from underground, and the main antag will not get to the Dwarves for a long time, if ever.

I'd like to keep Kal'Urir, it's a nice little tourist attraction and a monument of the Doomforged, I don't really see an issue with it.

From an outside perspective I see all these holds and I want to do an event for the dwarves but I can never find any... I have had to outsource players for mini-events because dwarven RP is spread thin.

Reduce Brom'kah to a few farming homes and the fort.

Wipe kastoria clean. Have a GM help with the old delver fort maybe.

Really what I would like to see is a dwarven style of building emerge in these holds. Right now everything looks human and I personally think if the dwarves developed their own above ground architectural style that you would get more players interested in coming there. Smaller more compact cities look better and make more sense for dwarves.

Edit: Maybe build from stone? ZoCpOTu.png

They are human settlements though, not Dwarven. That is the result in human architecture in the settlements rather than Dwarven.

One would still think that since it is a dwarven hold that you would see dwarven influences. Right?
