The Dusk: Part 2

Thick smoke fills the air around The Trog. The grotesque sounds of industry and war ring through the sprawling tent city. Slaves are whipped and beaten as they work away at the massive weapons of war that drive the machine that is the Krughai. The Yazgurtan Grool and his men beat away at raw steel, molding and shaping it into powerful armor to drive the Orcs forward into battle.

 

The gears had been set in motion years ago by the council, strategic resources were secured, alliances had been made, and the Krughai was trained. The Targoth and his officers made elaborate plans, their tactics have been tested and retested.

 

The Trog was growing and expanding at a rapid pace but the humans around them were not. They were stagnant, their walls blocking the glorious expansion of the Orcish horde. The Shamans demanded that the heretics be purged and their lands returned to the spirits.

 

For too long had Salvus stood. It had first been destroyed in The Second Great War, a war where Salvus was ravaged by the Orcish hordes and its allies. However, Salvus has again risen and must be crushed.

 

After the bombardment and destruction of major buildings in the Trog, the warmachine has grown faster than ever. Here is the Targoth’s speach.

 

 

“Yazgurtan, Motsham, Members of the High Council, and of the Lower Council:

Yesterday, Winter Moon 7, 141 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the Dominion of Krugmar was suddenly and deliberately attacked by siege and ground forces of the Kingdom of Salvus. The Dominion of Krugmar was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Salvus, was still in conversation with its government and its Kinglooking toward the maintenance of peace in the middle of Anthos.

 

Indeed, one hour after Salvus siege weapons had commenced bombing in the Orcish city of De Trog, the Salvian ambassador and his colleague delivered to Strigzboss a formal reply to a recent Krugmar message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

 

It will be recorded that the distance of The Trog from Salvus makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Salvian government has deliberately sought to deceive the Dominion of Krugmar by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

 

The attack yesterday on the Trog has caused severe damage to Krugmar slave and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many Orcish lives have been lost. In addition, Orcish scouts have been reportedly been attacked on the roads between The Trog and San’Orka.

 

Salvus has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Trog area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the Dominion have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As Commander in Chief of the Krughai and Honorless, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.

 

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the Orcish people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

 

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

 

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

 

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.

I ask that the Councils declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Salvus on Winter Moon 7, 141, a state of war has existed between the Dominion of Krugmar and the Kingdom of Salvus.”

We wish to help take the city, and hopefully destroy most of it. If you accept, send this slave back with a message, if you don't, keep him for yourself to do as you wish." He has a bandit whip the slave before sending him forward "Creator speed slave!"

A scrawny looking hooded man loitering outside Dawn's bakery, his appearance seems to shimmer, like static, looking around his surrounding warily.

"Time to move Alex'i to Talaran..."

His appearance grows taller, the strands of hair visible under his hood darken into a crimson colour and his ears develop points, he draws a tired breath at the effort before pulling his hood over himself, striding out the city.

Jericho looks forward sternly, his hair now almost down to his shoulders as he ponders the happenings and his own survival at the Citadel. He allows a smirk to suddenly cross his face as shakes his head slowly, 'Ch, ch, ch, ch, ch..' he lets out, his expression somewhat sly as he sits slumped back in his chair, the burnt Ashby Estate all around him, ash still lingering in the air from the long past intentional fire.
