Wondering whether I should use a character slot to make a persona that isn't EVIL but humans are nub fun.

Day 5 of not telling anyone that I am doing that thing where you count day by day until something important happens wherein day 5 would be the day that I post telling people that I am doing the day by day thing.

@Wizzaryou forget the context of haelunor attempted subjugation of elven kind in at least three different instances over the “lifespan” of elves (think with the 1000 year concept, subjugation has been attempted multiple times in like 400/500 years)
Most elves would be very happy the institution of Haelunor is gone and its policies are being reversed onto them (purity and stuff). People also forget the whole point of the haelunor execution was not for the crime of being elven, it was for harboring undead/mystics and actively aiding them. Where most of their targets were against the empire itself. I understand the wish for unifying against the imperials with the elven liberation front, but the current coalition is based on trying to solely tumble Hadrian and most elves are okay with what he does, especially in most of the main vassals. Even being more complex, siding with the dwarves does mean if they lose, you’re basically wiped off the map. It’s a gamble where people are still choosing sides and allegiances. If they win, great, Imperials are gone, but if the dwarves did lose, it would be met with severe consequences for those that sided with them.
the true elf mentality is to just “wait it out”, immortality from time basically means that inaction is normally the true policy of most elves. They will simply outlive the firecracker era of violence

modern hnor was a far cry from anything that represents actual hnor. my character is a 'thill and has watched nothing but the slow intellectual death of their home, the near assimilation into cnor, and the brain-worm plague.
Not to say my character doesn't hate for it, but she puts that hate on the fennics. In her mind - supporting the empire is preferable to being subjugated. But that is the defeatist attitude of knowing that even a united elfdom is dwarfed by human clickers
and yeah, dingo made a good point about waiting it out. hadrians entire lifespan is a fart in a bath, why care that much if you can simply just go find a nice spot in the woods and wait it out?

It is my belief that roleplay benefits from monk revival and approaching the server with monk revival is an important tool in promoting positive conflict RP.
Looking down on such revival or PKing on every death only promotes powergaming and the avoiding of conflict as players do not want to lose the time and energy they have invested in their characters.
We should actively encourage monk revival AND do our best to put down any stigma associated with using it.- Show previous comments 8 more

9 hours ago, Pancakehz said:The problem we face is that monk revival IRP encourages people to not RP as their character would realistically. Back in the day, we viewed monk revival as a dice roll. You never knew IRP whether the monks would choose to revive you or not, so we RP'd as if we had a very real chance of dying for good. I don't wanna see people going around saying "I will stand my ground because the monks will just revive me" and kill any consequence of meaningful roleplay. In addition to that, part of building an overarching story is losing. I think players need to be less afraid of losing and more focused on overall story. I appreciate hearing your take though, love to see dialogue going on the forums. Best wishes.
What your describing actively breaks the only rules on death/monk revival and I pity you if your encountering it in a manner where you believe you are forced to believe this interpretation.
5 hours ago, JustMeMorgan said:Remember that nobody knows or can allude to monk revival; if your character is presented with the idea that they died heres some ways to explain it:
- outright denial, claim it must’ve been some form of trick by whoever claims to have killed you
- say perhaps it was not fatal (i.e. if you went limp during combat) and perhaps someone rescued you but you have no memory of even fighting
- give some mystical excuse “perhaps Azuras wasn’t done with me- though I have no idea what you mean by me dying I have no recollection of this. I think I would had remembered it.”
another thing is if you die to say a raid of banditing just take NPC status: imagine it wasn’t “exactly” your character who died, then you need not worry about anything
you cannot in any manner whatsoever alude to or acknowledge your own death if you monk revived; the monks will kill you on the spot if you acknowledge them in any way (this is why lore with internal revival systems can only alude to the fact sometimes that they died, because the monks actively forsake those who cheat death beyond them)

They don’t literally go around doing that, I’m more so referring to people who think ”my character wouldn’t be scared to 1v1 a raging olog because he’s been a soldier for 5 years”
it’s simply unrealistic and imo is the equivalent of acknowledging monk revival. In reality your character should fear getting stomped by something but instead they subconsciously know they don’t have to PK so they risk their characters life in ways that are a detriment to quality RP

@PancakehzHow do you feel about 10 year old children wearing full plate armor and having 20 years of medical experience?

What profession wouldn’t like to see an employee with skills in collaboration, creativity, and writing….. any lotc player has built those skills just by playing, and others have furthered them through contributions to various staff teams (CT with customer service, tech with tech, mod/admin with management and conflict resolution, etc….)
Lotc is 100% a great toolbox if you know how to utilize it. Once I stopped being embarrassed by something I love to do so much it’s become way easier to be open about the things it’s taught me :)
