SUMMARY To protect the people from the forces of Darkness, the Sovereignty of Ravenmire and the Holy Army of the Exalted have united in a treaty. HISTORY During the time of His Holiness Sixtus V, many ambitious folk felt a proper church military was needed, sprouting many offshoots from many parties. Holy Ser Halston Veyont and his flock was one of those ambitious parties. Holy Ser Halston went on to create the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Saint Jude, an Order which picked up a bad reputation for their disorganized and violent tactics, but he did create a good foundation. As everything does, Holy Ser Halston’s time as Grandmaster would come to an end, allowing Saint Gerard to step up. Under the guidance of Saint Gerard, the order was allowed to flourish and prosper and move on from the barbarish titles it collected under Holy Ser Halston’s reign. This was achieved through years of service to the church and countless investigations. Since the Saint Gerard, Holy Ser Barend and Holy Ser MacSkaul have worked tirelessly to continue the growth of the Order of Saint Jude, for their tireless work, High Priest Fleeperus is exalting them and the Order of Saint Jude with a new name and title: ‘The Holy Army of the Exalted.” With this title and reform the Holy Sers aim to establish a common and centralized command for the church military in order to defend the Church of the Canon, to fight the schismatics, heathens, heretics and apostates who threaten the Unity of the Holy Mother Church, and to fight the Saulicians and the Great Deceiver. II. LEX EXALTATA The Exalted’s Law The Exalted’s Law are the tenets by which a holy knight shall live. It is through these virtues that they will never falter or fall. They must be upheld, as if they were an oath. I. You will be bound not the laws of Man but Holy Law and profess it totally. For the scripture is your blood and you are dust without it. His word is the lasting word, and it is the only Virtue. (Spirit 2:16) II. You will strengthen your heart and reject gluttonous sin. For I have given to you the pleasures of the world, and they shall comfort you in the theater of virtue. EXALTED PATHS Upon becoming a Squire of the Holy Army of the Exalted, Squires are expected to decide which of the following four Holy Knightly Paths they shall pursue: The Path of Exalted Horen Holy Knights who take the Path of Exalted Horen give themselves to GOD and only GOD. They learn all they can about the Holy Scrolls and become ordained priests at the end of their squireship. The Knights of Exalted Horen are battle priests and are overseen by the Grand Chaplain. The Path of Exalted Owyn Holy Knights who take the Path of Exalted Owyn only come out from their solitude to capture high-value targets, assist on dangerous missions, or to guard His Holiness. Knights of Exalted Owyn are trained beyond anyone else, they are an elite force that are the most proficient in fighting Saulicians and battling the Great Deceiver. Most if not all of their days are spent fighting and training. The Path of Exalted Godfrey Holy Knights who take the Path of Exalted Godfrey dedicate themselves to the libraries of Aevos. They choose to learn all they can about the Saulician threat so that they may educate the rest of the Holy Army of the Exalted about them. They specifically learn about ways to spot Saulicians, the best ways to defend themselves against Saulicians, and how to cure the ones that may be cured. These teachers and scholars are referred to as the Knights of Exalted Godfrey. The Path of Exalted Sigismund Holy Knights who take the path of Exalted Sigismund become the Holy Knights that lead investigations. Not much can be known publicly about these Holy Knights other than that they are referred to as the Knights of Exalted Sigismund. IV. CULTURE, DUTIES AND HOLY RELICS Culture Once a week members of the Holy Army of the Exalted should attend a sermon held by the Grand Chaplain, once a month members will be expected to attend a pilgrimage to Lemon Hill which shall be led by the Grand Chaplain. Members are expected to participate in communion, give food and alms to the poor when donation treks happen. Holy Knights are expected to abstain from alcohol and smoking, the same does not apply for average soldiers, however they should abstain if they wish to become holy knights. Duties Soldiers of the Holy Army of the Exalted are expected to go out and test the people of canondom. They may either do this through patrols on roads led by Sergeants or by simply making their way to cities where the proper treaties are in place and stopping people at random to be tested. They are also expected to collect metals and herbs for the Holy Army of the Exalted. These will be the first duties of a new recruit to the army, through outstanding service a recruit will move on to becoming a squire and having larger duties in the army depending on their Exalted Path. Many other duties of the members are to give and donate to the poor and needy, if they pass medical exams available through the army then they will be assigned to assist anyone harmed in wars. The Holy Army of the Exalted is also a steadfast way to prepare yourself for priesthood and become a priest. Holy Relics Upon induction within the Holy Army of the Exalted, new members are expected to recite the Oath of the Exalted upon the Holy Relics of the Faith. The most relevant Holy Relics which are venerated by the Holy Army of the Exalted are the following: The Laurel of Ex. Horen: The golden laurel borne by Exalted Horen, which was granted to him by Aengul Tesion in the Grotto of Gamesh, where he was crowned and declared a Prophet of the Lord. It is considered a symbol of Humanity, Covenants and Humility. The Sword of Ex. Owyn: The flaming sword wielded by Exalted Owyn, which was granted to him by the Lord to cleanse mankind of sin and guide Canondom by battle and brawn. It is considered a symbol of Purity, War and Fire. The Scepter of Ex. Godfrey: The silver scepter wielded by Exalted Godfrey, which was granted to him by the Lord to exercise the sovereignty and command that would guide his Empire by conscious reason. It is considered a symbol of Dominion, Glory and Justice. The Orbis of Ex. Sigismund: The globus cruciger wielded by Exalted Sigismund bearing the mark of heaven of the Lord's domain to exercise his God-given divine right to preside over the Lord's faithful followers. It is considered a symbol of Clairvoyance, Wisdom, and Sight. V. HIERARCHY SENIOR COMMAND The ranks in senior command make up a council deemed ‘The Swords of Saint Daniel.’ No one decision is decided alone, all important decisions are brought to the council where they are debated amongst the Senior Command. Knight Imperator The Knight Imperator is the supreme commander of the mother church’s military, he gets his orders from the High Pontiff and the Pontifical Commandant. He represents the mother church, his will is the church’s. Through his will, the army persists. Knight Vicar The Knight Vicar is the Second-in-Command of the Holy Army of the Exalted, he represents the Knight Imperator when the Imperator is unavailable. The Vicar and Imperator work together so that they may allow the army to prosper. Knight Sentinels Knight Sentinels are selected by the Knight Imperator from the best Holy Knights of each Exalted Path; they oversee the different knight groups directly, and lead the Exalted Path they were selected from. As such, there can only be 4 Knight Sentinels. This mysterious rank of holy knights are the most important and dangerous ones in the Holy Army of the Exalted; they are well versed in the Holy Scrolls and are mainly summoned on missions to capture enemies of the church. Knight Sentinels are responsible for managing and assigning Holy Quests to the Holy Knights of the Exalted Path they are responsible for. They command the Knight Imperator’s authority in his absence and in the absence of the Knight Vicar. Knight Sentinel of Exalted Horen The Knight Sentinel of the Path of Exalted Horen is the head-priest of the Holy Army of the Exalted. He leads them in prayer, he conducts last rites, he enlightens us all with the knowledge of the holy scrolls. The Knight Sentinel of Exalted Horen needs to be at least a Bishop in order to be selected for this role. He is responsible for training and ordaining the Knights of the Path of Exalted Horen, the knight priests of the army. He is also responsible for providing the army with purity seals and all sorts of permits needed written by Bishops for investigations. Grand Surgeon The Grand Surgeon is the army’s lead medic. His responsibility is to teach the Army of the Exalted combat medicine, to tend to the sick and wounded, and to make sure the army is well stocked on potions and oils. Commander of the Guard The Commander works to train and prepare the guard and serves as the highest ranking of the Papal Guard. The Commander is not a Holy Knight but he has authority over all ranks below Knight Sentinel as he has similar responsibilities to that of the Knight Sentinels. The Commander of the Guard is responsible for managing and assigning missions to Sergeants who will then take the Papal Guard out to accomplish. Though he conducts as much respect and authority as the Knight Sentinels, the Commander of the Guard should not order a Holy Knight unless the Imperator, Vicar, and Sentinels are not present and even then he must show the proper respect to the Holy Knights he is entrusted with. JUNIOR COMMAND Knight Captains Knight Captains are Holy Knights of the Exalted that through outstanding service and long commitment to the Holy Army have been given authority over Holy Knights. Knight Captains are ultimately over-ridden by Knight Sentinels. Knight Captains are expected to assist the guard in patrols, defend clergy, and continue the jobs assigned with their path. Holy Knights of the Exalted Holy Knights of the Exalted are exemplary persons who were deemed worthy of being a knight by the Knight Sentinels. They are role models for the normal footmen and acolytes alike. Holy Knights have authority over Sergeants and the rest of the members of the Papal Guard. The job of the Holy Knights and the Papal Guard are vastly different and they should be more concerned with their path jobs than policing. Squires Squires are holy knights in training who are expected to be mainly focused on trials and studying but still command authority over all ranks below Sergeants making them on par with a Sergeant. When one becomes a Squire they are asked which path they would like to take, they will then be trained in the Exalted Path of their choosing. Squires are always selected from members of the Papal Guard. They are still commanded by the Commander of the Guard. *The ranks above go without monetary compensation. If you simply wish to be a humble-soldier of GOD you will be paid, if you wish to be a hero of canondom we will provide everything else. PAPAL GUARD Sergeants Sergeants are there to keep the Papal Guard in line. They have authority over Wardens and the rest of the ranks of the Papal Guard. Sergeants are expected to take them on patrols, give training, and make sure there is always something to do for the Papal Guard. Wardens Wardens are very experienced soldiers, no one starts as one but must be trained to become one. Footmen Footmen are your run of the mill soldiers, if a more-experienced soldier is joining they would join as a footmen or an acolyte may be promoted to one. Levys Acolytes are soldiers who do not have martial combat experience, they undergo rigorous training and must shave their head once they join. Pages Pages are children who wish to serve the High Pontiff and GOD, often children of Holy Knights. To Whom It May Concern The dwarf continues to throw blame from anyone but himself, I have taken credit for the insults I threw, but he is unable to take account for anything. This dwarf is one that always plays the victim, and a horrible representation of the dwarven kind. If this dwarf were truly honorable, we would be able to set aside these acts of aggression and come to an agreement, one which I asked for the day the incident took place. ADDRESSING THE LIES Date: 3rd of the Deep Cold, 1986 A Saint’s week ago Rhorgvar Frostbeard was in a tavern in Balian, shortly after the conclave to decide the new High Pontiff. During this visit he attempted to attack a child in the local tavern before being kicked out of the tavern by the guards of the kingdom. After being kicked out he had called me, Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul, to him, where he then said “I will give you 300 mina to assassinate Mirt” before pointing to the 8 year old goblin. Seeing an opportunity for both profit and justice, I got in contact with Mirt, with their permission I cut off some of their hair. The plan was to take the hair to the dwarf as proof of the crime and receive the money, in which I would lure him into canonism to arrest him and have proper justice dealt to him. I had traveled to Urguan to meet with the dwarf, unfortunately Ayr dialect may seem quite aggressive to some. The dwarf took offense to the use of “Halfman” which is synonymous with “Dwed” in Ayr tongue and is not intended as an insult. Upon giving him the goblin’s hair he claimed that it was not enough proof, upon which I demanded payment again. Seeing there was no more point in keeping up the scheme I delivered him the charges, saying “If you enter canondom again you will be swiftly apprehended and put to death for your crimes, unless we may talk.” upon which he drew his warhammer. Seeing I had to defend myself I drew my halberd. I drew my weapon AFTER he drew his weapon, something he would lie about in his public letter of defamation. The dwarf demanded I leave, upon which I once more asked if we could talk. Once again the dwarf denied me and I left. I left having attacked no one with anything but my aggressive, regional dialect.
