  1. I believe it's already explained rather well. The mech standard means "If it can be done in MC, it can be done in RP". One can climb a waterfall in MC using vanilla mechanics, so it's not considered unRP for someone to do so. It's a perfectly fair and logical rule, so I'm not sure why your "wtf alarm" is going off. If you're into a more hardcore RP atmosphere, then you don't have to do such things yourself, but don't be surprised when other people do it and aren't reprimanded.
  2. Consider me pestered. Added it. "Once a fight begins, the type of combat (RP or PvP) agreed upon may not change unless everyone agrees to the change, regardless of the standing default. For instance, if an RP fight has begun and someone wants to change to PvP fighting, every participant has to agree to that change, otherwise it will remain an RP fight."
  3. (Thanks to Freya for helping me reorganize and update everything, though it would probably be more accurate to say that I helped her, as she by far did most of the work. I'd also like to thank my mommy and daddy for being there for me every step of the way, and of course batman for---- oh wait, this isn't an acceptance speech... don't mind me! Anyways, everything below the upcoming line is what is now posted on the rules page. We are experiencing technical difficulties at this time, so the page is currently very oddly formatted and quite an eye sore to read, but the content is there nonetheless and will be given a proper make over as soon as possible.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rules of the server are something we all find boring and you may think "Hey, what's the point", however it's best for all of us if you take five minutes of your time and read them. It'll save you questioning things later, and it will also save you from making any mistakes that break the rules - we don't take "I didn't know that rule" as an excuse! When it comes to the forums, there are a set of different rules, which you can find here. Make sure you follow them when you're using the website! The Lord of the Craft Server Rules and Guidelines A small list of terms and acronyms used in the rules: Character - a roleplay character, controlled by a player. Player - a real-life member of LOTC. RP - Roleplay IC - In-character OOC - Out-Of-Character IG - In-Game FTB - Fade-to-Black PvP - Player versus player, specifically meaning minecraft combat. LOTC - Lord of the Craft, our server. RP’ly - In roleplay Global Rules (In-Game, Teamspeak, Forums): Please don’t spam any of our services, whether In-Game, on Teamspeak or the Forums. You may not share any LOTC accounts with other players. Actions committed by others on your account (including people living with you at home) are your responsibility. If your account is hacked, however, you may appeal to a Moderator or Administrator with proof of said hacking. Player harassment, blackmailing or discrimination of any kind is forbidden. You must not impersonate another player or backseat moderate. Please don’t “Moderator Shop”, meaning asking different members of staff a question until you get an answer to a question you want. Thus if one moderator answers you but you aren’t fond of the answer, you may not ask another for a different response. Even if you don’t technically break any listed rules, either from walking the fine line between breaking the rules and not or from consistently jumping through loopholes, it is a moderator’s right to warn or ban you if they deem it necessary. This will only occur in extreme scenarios, and moderator’s abusing this right will be dealt with accordingly. In-Game Roleplay Rules: You need to keep IC at all times. If you need to use OOC, you can either privately message the player using /tell <minecraft name>, or by using Local OOC. This channel can be accessed by putting double brackets before your speech, like this “((Hi guys”. Please use Local-OOC sparingly around other players! Metagaming and powergaming of any kind are not allowed. You need to use a roleplay-friendly skin! This means a skin that illustrates your character’s appearance. Also, you must not use a skin that is obscene, offensive or not related to RP, such as a Batman skin. Make sure you don't break any of the server's lore - it's there for a reason! Refer to the lore rules here for more information. You're only allowed to play as one of the approved races - they're listed on the wiki. If you want to play one of the more exotic races or creatures, such as Golems, then you must follow the lore for them and contact the person in charge of the race/creature. We don’t allow descriptive sexual roleplay of any kind. This includes explicit nudity and actions involving a character’s sexual organs. You may however ‘fade to black’ for the purpose of, say, conceiving a child for your character. Fade to black means you skip the roleplay of the action, but you may roleplay out the consequences, for example having the child. Both players must consent to a Fade to Black. You don't need to permanently kill your character when you die. You may however permanently kill your character if you so wish. If you perma-kill your character, you have a one week grace period in which you can return your character from the dead. After the one week is over, your character can no longer be brought back from the grave. Another person may never permanently kill your character, although an Administrator has the right to enforce one in extreme circumstances. When you die, either in roleplay or minecraft, you simply go back to the Cloud Temple and forget all memory of your death and the roleplay leading up to it. You can't go back to where you died until 30 minutes after the event of your death has passed (If you die in battle, you must wait 30 minutes after the battle ends until you may return), unless it is where your character would logically go. If your character was murdered near their home, you may return to their home as it is where your character would likely go. Racism is allowed IC, but make sure you don't do it OOC - it can only be towards other in-game races. If you feel the need to curse (swear) IC, keep it tasteful and don't overdo it. Insults that fit your character are encouraged, rather than real-world curses, such as an Orc using “Skah” or a Human telling someone to “go plough yourself!”. Try to not overuse a resource if it is not in your character’s nature, whether this is harvesting an entire field of wheat and leaving it barren, or slaughtering all of a player’s animals. Consistently depriving another player (or players) of their fun for your own personal gain or amusement, even after receiving appropriate warnings, is punishable if deemed necessary by the moderation teams. This may also be considered harassment. Essentially, don't be a troublesome player that only plays to annoy others or be a nuisance. You can't use any client-side modifications that give you an advantage over other players, like; speed-hacking, x-ray vision, fly-hacking. You can however, use cosmetic and aesthetic modifications such as shader mods, Optifine and minimaps. The Mechanical Standard: Our in-game server runs according to the 'Mechanical Standard' rule. This means that we base our roleplay off of the possibilities available to us mechanically (whether or not they can be done in vanilla minecraft). This means that, if you can't do something mechanically, you can't do it in roleplay, while if you can do something mechanically, it can be done in RP. Climbing up waterfalls is thus perfectly alright, while RPing ropes to get over a mechanically impassable wall is not. The following rules outline the exceptions to this standard, collectively creating a rule known as “abuse of mechanics”. You must not use your soulstone to avoid/escape combat, arrest, imprisonment or roleplay! If you are imprisoned, you can only soulstone away if left for over 30 minutes without roleplay. Abusing glitches in server plugins or minecraft mechanics is not allowed. This includes glitches such as block-jumping (placing a block or several in a region preventing block placement and jumping off of it/them before they disappear to reach a place you couldn’t have reached before), or duping items using a faulty plugin. We endeavour to make sure all of our plugins are glitch-free, but if you discover one, please report it instead of abusing it. Escaping PvP combat by running into a region that restricts PvP is against the rules, such as the region surrounding the Cloud Temple. Underground farms are not allowed! It doesn't make any sense for farms to be underground, so make sure you don't make them - even if you do include glowstone or torches. The same goes for automated farms, as they don’t make roleplay sense and the technology doesn’t exist for them. Building/Destruction Rules: Damaging other player’s buildings is allowed only with RP reasoning, and is encouraged to only be done when the owner of the building is online. RP reasoning can include vendettas or sieges, as an example. If you're building something yourself, please make sure it actually suits the area it's in - and that it makes roleplay sense! That means, you can't build a giant floating castle, or a physics-defying tower! Be sensible when you build. Also, if you're underground, make sure you add supports to the area, else it would logically collapse. Digging visually unappealing or physics-defying tunnels is not allowed, such as ‘strip-mining’, where you dig straight 2x1 tunnels. Don’t leave floating leaves when cutting down trees! If you decide to cut down a tree, ensure that you do so fully, rather than leaving unappealing and unRP floating blocks behind. Combat Rules: Sometimes, you'll encounter hostile situations on the server, that need to be dealt with via combat. When you face these situations, please heed the following rules: Both of you must agree to the type of fighting you're using - PvP or RP fighting. If you can't agree, PvP is default. Before commencing a PvP fight, you must roleplay leading up to it, and you must also make the other player aware before you attack - e.g. an emote. Once a fight begins, the type of combat (RP or PvP) agreed upon may not change unless everyone agrees to the change, regardless of the standing default. For instance, if an RP fight has begun and someone wants to change to PvP fighting, every participant has to agree to that change, otherwise it will remain an RP fight. You must give a five second countdown to PvP after both parties have made clear they are ready. If you RP’ly die in a roleplay fight, the victor may choose whether you can soulstone or if you must die in minecraft combat as well. If someone else comes along and gets involved in your fight, they need to follow with the mechanic that was initially decided on. If you run away from a fight with little or no roleplay, then the other player can attack you via PvP! Make sure that you emote it, roleplay it fully and give them time to react in roleplay. However, yelling at a running player that is not involved in your roleplay to stop or fight is not grounds to PvP them if they do not stop. You aren’t allowed to simply log out to avoid combat. Speak to the other person, and explain you need to go. During war and battles, the rules regarding combat change. These changes can be found in the War Rules here. 4. I'm glad to hear that you benefited so much from your time on LotC, and it's certainly reassuring as a staff member to hear that the experience we have tried our best to provide has positively impacted at least some of the players in this community! I wish you luck with your flight training, and hopefully that girl you mentioned is wise enough to stick around with you for a very, very long while. ;)

  8. In direct response to the OP of this thread, unfortunately it would not be allowed. The lore regulations prevent any and all wings from being RPed without approval from an Administrator (such as myself). The reasoning that they might be related to heaven or hell as stated in the lore regs is the IC reason, not the full reasoning behind it. The more dominant reason that led us to add the restriction in the first place was that wings were becoming common in RP, which seriously decreased their factor of mysticism. However, before there was at least the individual RP boundary that players set for themselves that was akin to "I want wings, but they wouldn't make sense for my character so I'm not going to RP them just for the sake of it". Contrarily, if fake wings were allowed then that boundary would no longer exist, as adding/removing fake wings would be just as easy in RP as wearing a hat, thus actually making the situation worse than before. We could say that you can have fake wings, but then we'd have to grant everyone the option to RP fake wings if they want to out of fairness, and then the problem would return despite our best efforts. With that being said, as was mentioned previously you can still get direct approval from an Administrator to use them. I will warn you though, you will likely not have much luck with getting acceptance. As of now, I only know of 2 or 3 players that have permission to use wings, and those players have all proven themselves capable of RPing them properly AND given us proper undeniable evidence that their wings are essential to their character. It may seem like an incredibly strict restriction for something that could be seen as a minor aspect of RP, but nonetheless it was added for a good reason and we will be sticking by it, so I apologize if this is an inconvenience. Hopefully this response solved your inquiry.

  13. NPCs are already on the server and, as far as I can tell, do not cause the issues that were the result of the last NPC plugin we had. They don't speak until you click on them, which means chat spam doesn't happen, nor do NPCs look at you unless you're like 3-5 blocks away (not sure the exact number) so if you're for some odd reason creeped out by that it still shouldn't be too much of a bother. I suggest checking it out in game if you haven't already and seeing how much you like or dislike them, as it's certainly worth seeing for yourself! ^^
  14. No, Key Perks are merely perks introduced at that level for the first time, higher tiers still have it. So Iron is the first to get LWC, but they don't have Shops which are introduced at Gold, while Gold has both perks. :)
  15. Hey everyone :) For the past few weeks, I and the members of the Staff have been working on completely overhauling the VIP perks. As many would agree, the current perks are rather outdated and some of them don't even work anymore or are incredibly trivial. For this reason, we've taken the time to buff them and even introduce many new, awesome perks (as well as return old popular ones!) that will definitely be more well liked and useful than what we see presently. Although I will not expand on the details in order to a) prevent false hope in case we change things around more, and b) ruin the surprise and hype when they are officially released, I still need some assistance from you guys with working out the kinks. Our philosophy for this new perk system revolves around what I've coined as "Key Perks". Essentially, a Key Perk is the main perk relating to a specific VIP tier (Iron, Gold, Bedrock, etc.) that both acts as the most useful perk of the tier as well as the primary incentive to donate for that VIP level. For instance, the Key Perk for Iron is LWC, while the Key Perk for Gold is Shops. Before this update, the only tiers that actually had a Key Perk were Iron and Gold (and Diamond back when there were VIP plots) while every other tier instead involved a lot of smaller and minor perks, something that was and is still a huge issue. We hope to finalize the system with each tier having its own Key Perk as well as a few smaller perks to spice the donation up a little more! We have since provided every single tier with a Key Perk EXCEPT for Aether, and that's where you guys come in. As of now, the ONLY difference between Aether and Ender aside from tiered perks (Perks that exist at many levels, but where you get more from it at a higher tier, such as Forum Inbox maximum) is the Custom Tag, as the Forum++ perk in the update will be combined with Forum+ for Diamond since it's relatively useless. Obviously this isn't even close to being worth the $200 difference between Aether and Ender, and we've struggled with coming up with things to give to Aether that would make its value more appropriate. Some of our better ideas are being reserved for the Nether VIP tier (yes, we haven't forgotten about that) that we mentioned a little less than a month ago, which leaves us in between a hard place in a rock. Thus, I'm creating this thread to open the pool of suggestions to a much larger crowd of bright minds that could help us with discovering the perfect perks and thus finalizing this update, as the sooner it is done the sooner we can release them officially! All in all, here is what we need to finish: Iron VIP: 1 medium perk (not trivial or minor, but not a Key Perk either) OR 2 small perks Diamond VIP: 1 small perk Aether VIP: 1 Key Perk + 1-2 medium perks OR 1 Key Perk + 2-3 small perks Examples of different perks: Key Perk: LWC, Shops, NPCs, etc. Medium Perk: Donor's Den, Custom Tag, Forum+ (Updated version, which is Forum+ and Forum++), etc. Small Perk: Minas, VIP Access, TS Channel, etc. So please, get to suggesting ideas and perks for us! What would you like to see as a perk for a specific VIP level? What would make you willing to donate for that tier? Although I know it can't be prevented, try to keep an open mind and suggest perks that would actually fit with the tier, rather than being biased/selfish and suggesting perks for your own tier that don't fit in, or perhaps suggesting perks that are extremely crazy, impossible or easily abusable. Keep in mind that we will not necessarily acknowledge every idea that is mentioned, which could perhaps be due to the fact that someone else already mentioned the idea before, the perk is already in use in the update and we don't want to make that known, or maybe we're even considering your idea! Of course there's also the possibility that we could just have accidentally missed your idea in the swarm of replies, or it didn't contain anything that necessarily warranted a reply. Thanks guys, and hopefully we can get this done as quickly as possible!
  16. We listen to everyone, regardless of how loud they are. What we actually do is the result of our own judgement after consideration of what everyone has to say. And yes, it's possible if both sides agree. The only substantial difference between a raid and a skirmish is that a raid is random while a skirmish is agreed upon and has terms included, so they'd just be classified as skirmishes instead of as raids.
  17. Because people not involved with the war or skirmish that have no idea of the PvP zone's existence accidentally wander into it and get no-RP killed, which leads to ban reports and drama. Not everyone lives on the forums and knows of these wars and skirmishes that are in effect, and PvP zones are never clearly marked which leads to the aforementioned issues.
  18. This topic is being locked and we'll get Tech Team to remove this addition. I apologize for any frustration that this caused, though this was our fault as a team and not just Telanir's as some of you seem to think. Admittedly it was rushed out hastily and proper evaluation of the pros and cons of its addition were not fully considered. We will reevaluate its benefit to the server, and we will consider what you have all said in this thread. Thank you all for taking the time to express your concerns.
  19. What Is A Raid? A raid consists of a group going to a settlement, structure, or area owned by someone else, with the intent to steal, cause chaos, attack, or do damage to the objects or people within this area. Raids are not scheduled beforehand between the leader of the area and the opposing group. A consented attack (ie organised prior between the attackers and defenders) is NOT a raid and thus does not need to abide by the following restrictions. What Are The Rules Regarding Raids? A settlement can only be raided once per day by anybody. For example, if Vekaro was to be raided by Kal'Arkon, that would be it for that day. No more raids on Vekar There is no limit on raiding size. Players can raid with any number of players. (5 or 50, it doesn't matter). The minimum number of players present for an attack to be considered a raid is 3 individuals. A raiding party may not employ the use of siege weapons (battering rams, catapaults etc) during raids. Placing blocks, such as ladders, is allowed if the region allows it. You are not allowed to grief a wall in order to place the ladders or gain access to an area. Normal server rules still stand when it comes to placing blocks and raiding. (1x1 towers, block jumping, planting a tree, griefing ect.) Following the mechanical standard, a general rule in place is that if you can't do it mechanically, then you can't do it RPly. For example if you can’t get over a wall, then you cannot simply RP using a grappling hook and then ask a GM to teleport you over. Additionally, if players try and exploit loopholes in the system, this will count as breaking the rules. Though not an enforced rule but rather just a guideline, it is encouraged that the owner of the area, settlement or structure that is being raided be online to assist in creating a proper roleplay environment within the raiding event. What Is A Skirmish? A Skirmish is a battle between two opposing factions, guilds, groups, or kingdoms agreed upon beforehand between the leaders of each opposing side, usually for a political reason. Skirmishes are scheduled on a date agreed upon between the leaders of both sides. What Are the Rules Regarding Skirmishes? Leaders of both sides must agree beforehand on the skirmish for it not to be considered a raid, including a time, location, and area if necessary. If permission is not granted, the skirmish will be considered a raid and thus raid rules will apply. Skirmishes usually have set terms and rules decided upon beforehand by each side, terms that must be followed by all individuals within and during the battle. These terms usually detail the use of potions, brews, and/or siege weapons. They are not required for a skirmish to occur. There is not a set limit of people who can be in a skirmish, unless a limit is set beforehand by both sides. Skirmish parties are not required to adhere to the time cap preventing raids from occurring too often, as a skirmish is agreed upon. Example for clarification: If a settlement was raided a day before a skirmish is scheduled to occur there, the skirmish can still continue despite the fact that a settlement can not be raided more than once every two days. Random Clarifications: Regardless of the terms of ANY form of war agreed upon by both sides, server rules MUST be adhered to. For instance, even if the terms of a skirmish say that players may return to the battle after they die, they can not because the server rules prevent them from doing so. PvP Zones (areas associated with a war or skirmish where, within the defined boundaries, one can be no-RP killed at any time) are disallowed. They break server rules by merely existing, and they alone have contributed to a large number of complaints, ban reports and drama. The exception to this is between the specified times that a war or skirmish is scheduled to occur.

  21. As Cappy noted, we'll work to fix that if that is true, but to be honest we don't really need a name to the book to find out who wrote it. Through basic logblock of the book's content or even its name, we can find out who made it and deal with them accordingly. The other steps still need to be followed though, otherwise we won't be able tell whether someone was scammed and for how much they were scammed
