As a person who really dislikes the effects of Mechanical Standard for forms of Combat.... I'm all for 'Common Sense'.
We see it all the time, when Mechanical Standard is called all lore, logic, rules and reasoning are swept under the 'Pvp grey area carpet'. The only rule that applies when using PVP default, and it is responsible for many bans, would be the 'Do not enter a region where PVP default is disabled to evade PVP.'
Common Sense, it's not /that/ difficult to ignore... Before the implementation of Mechanical Standard, people were essentially forced to /learn/ how to RP and give good RP, make an application proving the responsibility that one can hold as a Villain, etc etc...
After Mechanical Standard, and a few good months, the server's community suddenly began to 'stop caring', it was all about war, fighting and lack of logical reasoning when it came to death. I like the idea of the Common Sense initiative, I really do, however I feel that the community is not prepared for such a change.
I don't believe the playerbase can handle something like this just by their own self discipline in regards to RP or PVP. For something like this to actually stick, I believe we have to have some way to 're-teach' our playerbase and enforce some sort of disciplinary action if this were to be breached.
In my honest of opinions, I believe it has to be asserted that the /RULES, LORE and LOGIC/ still have to be applied even when PVP/MechStandard has been called. I know many of you are going to have conflicting and opposing views of what I've just spewed, however give yourselves a chance to actually /think/ about what I've stated above..
I personally think the majority of you already know that the playerbase is not ready/able to provide something like this without positive or negative reinforcement, regardless of what the 'moderating system' is put in place for something like 'Common Sense Standard' people have to be taught, they can't just be kicked out of the server or banned.
Mechanical Standard has dulled the effect and quality of RP, this cannot be denied as the evidence of this claim is all over the place, Power-gaming (Hitting players Mc'ly into areas where they can be locked in while they're typing, magic users unintentionally or intentionally refuse to emote 'tells' or even those of Deity magics refusing to emote connecting to their specific Deity.)
Meta-gaming (Name Plate Meta-gaming, an act of using one's mechanical nameplate above their IG character to 'know' exactly where a person is and spy on them without emoting 'trying to spy on [insert name here].' Or viewing a status when a war has ended and using this as an excuse to execute.)
"Minas or die!!1!11!one!!" (Theft, this kind of Villainous activity spiked when the V.A's were removed, and let's face it, it was absolutely 'terrible', the countless cases where Mechanical Standard was used after a player has been searched Mechanically increased. This does not include 'street theft' alone, this also includes 'Tax' "Give us Tax or we kill your people." That in a twisted manner is indeed "Minas or die."
In addition to the previous paragraph above, I'm adding this, in a logical sense and using a reference to 'Robbery' I will place in a little statistic. In the year 2011, posted by the FBI's Bank Crime Statistics, only 51 (5 Percent) of the 1,094 robberies, burglaries and larcenies which occurred in a three-month period, only yielded 18 deaths.
Before you say it, I already know, "This is a RP server, they RP how they want!" Yes, this is true, however it is not really logical to 'kill' someone after the Mugger has received what he/she wanted. This includes RP that the victim actually complies with the Mugger.
Another thought that stops me from thinking this 'Common Sense' initiative would be a problem is the orientation of the server's RP interests... The server is /heavily/ combat/conflict orientated, this would mean that players have to actually stop clicking their mouses a thousand times and pay attention to what 'logical reasonings' may occur in a RP scenario whether it be combat or peaceful.
It all goes back to 'training and learning' how a player can know and detect when something should or should not occur.. Like swimming in full plated armor, climbing a little tiny baby tree as a full grown Uruk and not breaking through the branches, drinking poison and emoting being immune, jumping across a lava pit RP'ly that is near fifteen feet away from the other safe platform... The list goes on.
To be honest, I don't even know if I'm on the right topic anymore... If you made it this far in my spewing of words I congratulate you!
~Netphreak was here.... Again... *heavy sigh*
