Orgon's power would presumably grow with the scale of the disease upon the land, but at the moment he has no control or influence over it.

[5.0] Hunting | Your View
Aesopian replied to Deleted User 001's topic in News & Announcements Archive
I'll write undead-underground lore as soon as the First Drowned are actually accepted. We don't know yet if the LMs are intent on blocking it for whatever reason, and I still have reservations about success even if backed by an ET member. the LMs are stingy occasionally, is all We'll see. -
[5.0] Hunting | Your View

W Wait, why is this distant? Can't you just slap your new code into fishing or something, and then just rename the profession? Or literally just remove fishing entirely, and just make it called 'hunting', if you can't use the & character. -
~| The Filthy Tongue |~ Good people do their duty, not to receive a reward or to avoid a punishment, but for the sole purpose that it is their duty. The creator would not produce a world where the divine good is one which is associated with rewards or punishments that are intrinsic to our psyche. Sex, power, wealth -- these things please us, and if our duty was to acquire them, then it would be impossible for us to distinguish between our duty and these pleasures and pains we experience. This is how we know that our duty is not to keep our kin fed, to be knowledgable, to give unto the poor, or to perform any other number of tasks set out by popular philanthropists of our age. This may sound strange, but these 'duties' are also rewarding. Consider a man wins a lottery, and then looks around for what fun he might have with his winnings. He might purchase a yacht, travel around the world, or fund his passage through a college. Or, he might decide to give that money to charity, and enjoy the special feeling he gets from making people happy. Regardless of what he does, he does not do so because because it was his duty -- he merely does so because he thought it was the most fun, and there is nothing admirable about such a selfish pursuit. I heard birdsong of your efforts, of vines sewn into the cobbles of the cities and weeds planted before their walls. Throughout Urguan and Oren, in the north and the south, now those plants will grow. We will not see the fruits of our efforts. The day may even never come, the things we sew being torn apart by time, Men, and darker forces; even then, it may take generations for the first stone to be dislodged by the roots we raise. Our battle is one which stretches over aeons. Canyons will form, and give birth to valleys; mountains will rise, and erode to dust. Judgement shall come, but until it does, we have time, and we must make the most of it. Our creator is not cruel. Our desires are not simply ways of leading us from divine, they are the divine good. Balance can be attained, and our duty be met. In such a perfect world, we are free to pursue what we feel -- those things which make us happy and which drive us. We do not stagnate. The world changes, yet stays the same. The pursuit of our happiness becomes eternal. It is, in some sense, our ultimate test: to determine not only if we can acquire balance, but what we make of it when we do. Now, I will place another task in your hands. Any of you, or all of you. Once again I ask you to collect seeds and fruiting bodies, but this time not just of low plants, but of all species. Every sort of tree, every bush, every grass. Collect newborn wolves, the eggs of birds and lizards. Hand-carve buckets, and scoop up clutches of eggs from amphibians and fish. Slay wild bears (a gift of mercy, to spare them from the coming horror) and steal their young. A great man-made plague rises in the south that will soon claim all of Vailor, and it will push us from this realm. It is our duty to preserve all that we can find, and take what we might with us to a new home. The diaspora continues. Show that you are dedicated to the cause of restoring balance to this world. I ask this of you. ~ March Ash You find a message on a sheaf of bark, scrawled in animal blood. TLDR Previous Issue Dreamer Next Issue Join the author.

~| The Filthy Tongue |~ A garden is not natural. A wooden palisade is still a wall. It is a common misconception that just because something is green, it is natural. There are those who believe that the construction of the cities can be compensated for by the addition of parks, and that farmlands are equivalent to forests because they both consist of plants. Living things are not necessarily natural things -- sorcerers have twisted life into unnatural forms countless times. A grain field is simply a much more subtle form of twisting. The natural world is a world untouched by symbolism and rationality. It is devoid of the influence of the mathematician and logician, because numeracy and logic are beyond our instinct. A garden is measured and manufactured, no different than the stones used in the walls of the cities. To restore balance to the world, we must destroy those things which unbalance it, regardless of whether those things be living or dead. I did not request the sparrows report back to me of your trials by fasting. You already know in your hearts if you succeeded. From time to time, I participate in these tasks myself, to ensure my resolve has not diminished. It is intended to bring forth the drives within us, our loves and hates. The molder of rotten wood, the clamor of beetles over fresh carrion, the hunger that gnaws in a wolf's belly, we feed on these things, just as we feed on the sensations and desires in ourselves. They give us power. These drives and principles breathe life into us, and are the purest expression of the natural in the world. Many people do not realize that things which are not alive may also be of nature. A stone edifice, proud and weathered. The breeze, blowing through the forests. The storms over the seas. The stars in the heavens. Even the earth beneath your feet is natural, because it has not been perverted by the crafts of Men. There are even legends of ancient druids who once held the power to move the unliving, but those abilities have all but been lost to us. A muscle, when not used, is quick to waste away. Now, I will place another task in your hands. Any of you, or all of you. Collect the seeds and fruiting bodies of bushes, grasses, and weeds in the forests. Plant them in fields, in the grasslands just outside city walls, within the precious gardens of barons and nobles. Some believe that nature has been tamed by Men, and that it no longer poses a threat to civilization. Show them that this is not the case. You are the breeze, and on you will ride a swift and terrible swarm. Vines will grow, and roots shall sunder, and even walls of stone will die with time. Show that you are dedicated to the cause of restoring balance to this world. I ask this of you. ~ March Ash You find a message on a sheaf of bark, scrawled in animal blood. [✗] A Means to An End; Deific Moderation Proposal
Aesopian replied to Tsuyose's topic in Denied Lore
What are you going on about? I never said anything about RPly having to do learning, just that you needed to prove your activity via screenshots of SOME activity. It's better than what OP suggested is all. -
[✗] A Means to An End; Deific Moderation Proposal
Aesopian replied to Tsuyose's topic in Denied Lore
No. This would be far better if the magic was completely removed, and reinstated after the player exhibits at least one (two?)+ week of constant activity via posting daily screenshots in a 'reactivation' thread in the magic app place. -
Sure. That's all fine. You have no real autonomy, though, your military alliance nits you together. I think it would be fine if in the next map that same thing happens. The only difference is that the halfing capital is no longer officially a racial capital - it is just the only major population center populated mostly by halflings. All, of course, a few hundred blocks from the actual Welf capital.
-
I like the Halflings, but they should really just be a vassal of the Wood Elves, living in a medium-sized hobbit village nearby the main Welf capital. Basically what they are now.
-
Yay more news. You should also get a template.

~| The Filthy Tongue |~ We have a great and terrible power. In our minds is made the future of our world, long before that thought is given substance. The Holy Orenian Empire began as just an idea in one man's brain. Our dreams are beyond number. We make our ambitions a reality, for better or for worse. We mold the spheres of influence our gods possess. The orcs certainly did not worship a spirit of alcohol before the first grapes were fermented, nor was Cernunnos considered patron of bowmanship before we learned to string taut reeds in the curves of sticks. The scriptures we follow change with time, as new rituals are made and different things attributed to different gods. There are those who believe they can worship Cerridwen with sacrifices of flowers, or that Cernunnos appreciates a lengthy prayer about hunting. The symbols we have made of the Aspects would indeed respond this way, and we believe in our hubris that this should placate their true selves. Few things are farther from the truth. We have built them up so much we can't even see their reality behind the shroud we have made. They are the cycle of life and death. The purest form of worship of a god of death is death. I imagine the other follows. I have heard stories of wealth disappearing from storerooms and lockboxes all across Vailor. The sparrows spoke to me of many thefts in response to my last letter: one in the Raev, one in Urguan, another two in Laureh'lin. I heard also of several smaller acts of abandonment, from those who sought to sacrifice their own personal items. Truly, this sacrifice is one which may even be considered a more challenging task. Though stealing and destroying the wealth of others does further our mission in this World, it takes much more personal strength when the wealth destroyed is your own -- it shows you have disregarded your notions of fiat. Regardless, well done to all of you. There are some who have expressed to me hesitation in returning the world to balance, on account of the troubles this may cause their loved ones as they lose much of the infrastructure they once made use of it provide for their wants and needs. This is a legitimate concern, and I sympathize with your plight. It is not easy to ask those you care about to endure suffering, even if it is for the greater good. If you cannot motivate yourself to do this with the knowledge that this act is in accordance with divine Good, then you need only remember that without these actions, we will eventually incur retribution. Should we not restore the World to balance, the imbalance will build to such a degree that the mercy of the Aspects will run out. Despite all our power, we cannot hope to stand against the tide of nature, in all its beauty, and all its horror. Now, I will place another task in your hands. Any of you, or all of you. Fast for five days. If you should faint, you may eat, but do so only to regain your strength such that you do not perish in your sleep. Seclude yourselves to avoid temptation, if you must. It is important that we recognize the struggles we must endure to keep the world in balance, and prepare ourselves for such tribulation. A man who rushes back to the comforts of the City after a single day in the Forest is simply a traitor who has not yet realized it. Show that you are dedicated to the cause of restoring balance to this world. I ask this of you. ~ March Ash You find a message on a sheaf of bark, scrawled in animal blood.
