“Axes! Axes! AXES!”
Targoth Jreg’Gorkil - Siege of Hallowcliffe (190 SA)
The Krughai
“Krughai,” warrior in the common tongue, is the honorific delivered to those born of Krug or deemed worthy adversary. Long have the Uruk upheld the tradition of battle, honor, and righteous bloodshed. Through extensive training, tests of willpower, the staying of the blade, and the ENIGMA OF BATTLE; the Urukhai have developed the most powerful extensive and sought-after military culture on Braevos.
WHAT IS THE “ENIGMA OF BATTLE?”
The “ENIGMA OF BATTLE” is the fundamental question every Krughai must ask himself when tasting the beautiful death; and they must have the answer at the hall of Stargush lest Krug himself laugh at their folly and see their exile from Ancestral Plains.
Behind every Krughai’s decision is this thought, esoteric in creation to test the intelligence, wisdom, and bravery of the Krughai. It is the attempt to achieve this ENIGMA that separates the Krughai from the common levy of the other kingdoms. For any self-respecting Uruk would die before succumbing to cravenhearted decisions.
ON THE MILITARY TRAINING OF THE KRUGHAI
Krughai are regularly tested in their mettle, on and off the battlefield. In fact the warrior culture of the Uruk is such that it is quite impossible that a week might pass that an honorable competition of arms will have not taken place.
However it is important to note that bloodshed is not the primary goal of the Krughai, neither is the slaying of innocents. It is HONORABLE and RIGHTEOUS COMPETITION that the Uruk craves. For the Krughai teaches of “the staying of the blade,” an act wherein the Uruk despite superior skill and knowledge will actively de-escalate violence in order to achieve a pleasant outcome. It is the curse of all Uruks to crave blood, and their blessing of strength and will to stay their hands.
The Uruk regularly meet on the field of battle to test their might amongst themselves and their allies, and while the occasional accident may occur this is primarily in the goal of achieving a more unified and tested force.
Regular trainings are hosted once or twice weekly, and duels take place daily in the Goi.
ON THE COMMAND OF THE KRUGHAI
The Krughai is a loosely based hierarchy of command, though what hierarchy does exist is utterly respected and the delegation of orders are expected to be followed lest DISHONOR mar the Krughai.
THE INITIATE
The Initiate is an Uruk or Honorary unblooded in battle, an individual who, though demonstrating willingness to fight, has not achieved the status of KRUGHAI. It is not long an Uruk remains an Initiate.
THE KRUGHAI
Krughai, warrior, is a blooded Uruk or Honorary who has achieved some prowess or skill in battle. The majority of the might of the army is funneled into the ranks of the disciplined Krughai. Any who achieve this rank are expected to follow orders, deliver justice, and be brave leal warriors.
They are among the most respected in Uruk society, even given tribute compensation for their service.
THE YUHLHAI
The Yuhlhai, translating to ‘Agreed Warriors’ in common, is an honorific granted to those with the most combat experience. It is the life achievement of all Krughai to one day be embraced as Yuhlhai and be allowed to wield the respected battle cry of all brothers.
These Krughai serve as the founding block from which all others build themselves in model of.
