"The moles." Aimo repeated to himself thinking about just how that might have gotten the keep got like that. "Maybe Barnabus is onto something..."

Stassion Will Die | Poets of Man
ColdestPepsi replied to Poets of Man's topic in Human Realms & Culture
Aimo caught himself humming a funny lil tune as he went about his work, coughing up coal dust as he continued to prepare. He hit the final piece in sight just as he finished, putting a bit of extra flourish onto it. "prepare to die!"- 17 replies

A PROMISE KEPT: The Battle of Hippo's Gorge
ColdestPepsi replied to Mady's topic in Kingdom of Balian
Aimo grinned as he slid Katana from flesh, then going to wipe the blood of the faithless off his new weapon. As he took in the sea of opposing bodies, he couldn't help but revel in the sight, only being taken out of his own world when his friend Sir Konstantin addressed him. "Ye, that he might. Though we did good work today Kon, more will stack up. I only hope the fires can keep up with the amount of dead." With that he joined his compatriot, already impatient for the next battle.- 37 replies

Aimo burst out laughing upon reading the missive. "Wala, they actually bought this? Ah, there's the speechcraft coming into play." It took a few moments for the man to recover from his fit of laughing, refraining to look back at the missive to avoid more laughter.- 5 replies

THE PETRAN PIECE Vol. 3 Issued and averred by The Mayor AIMO OF ASTOR The Covenant We open this piece with news most jubilant, the Covenant has formed, with more having joined since the inception of such. This alliance is united in one purpose, the destruction of Veletz and any who may aid her. The task is a righteous one as they have acted like bandits and common thugs to the innocent people of the realms of Aevos. Victory at Breakwater In the early morn' of the 15th of the Sun’s Smile we the Covenant arrived upon the battlefield with only one goal in our collective minds - glorious victory. We were given our marching orders, and disseminated into groups - some to work the siege weaponry, others to protect them, yet more to guard the walls, and the final groups (that's us!) to guard the gates, and wait on standby until further instruction was given. For a day and a night we stayed hunkered down in our encampment, Bailan and Petran both, as our allies set upon the important task of trebuchet and cannon bombardment from the northernmost part of our base. Some might claim our initial role was perhaps boring, but, to me, it was crucial. We were a pivotal piece in the protection of our allies - we ensured that only the most foolish of their number would even attempt to breach our walls, and kept our people alive. War is just as much about the mental battle as it is the physical, if you ask me. Our very presence served as a reminder - we are many, and you are few. We are strongest together, and we will not allow you to drive us apart. Our quiet-but-no-less-critical duty would not last forever, however. An order had been given to us all. Finally, the time had come to push. Their weaponry destroyed, their keep in ruins, every soldier of ours leapt forth from our encampment in a coordinated rush. Like a dam burst open, we surged towards the foe, a veritable flood of man and steel. The deafening clang-crash-bang of blade upon armor cut through the air as we met with our adversary, all but drowning out battle-cries and dying shrieks both in a glorious cacophony. Time lost all meaning - the battle could have raged for moments, it could have raged for hours - all that mattered was the bite of sword-into-flesh, that careful dance of lunge-parry-block to preserve our own lives whilst taking as many as we could from those who dare threaten us. It was all but impossible to make out what was going on in the fray, identities of comrade and enemy both marked only by the difference in equipment. In that moment, we were not people- we were more than that. A swarm, a flood, a complete and utter force of nature. Though many of our own fell, they fell harder, and soon, we breached their beloved keep. The survivors were flushed out like vermin, and we, the Covenant, claimed it as our own, alongside our victory - no doubt only the first of many. - A retrospective from the perspective of Lady Angelina Lucien-Reinhold. Hohkmat and Petra Stand United The bonds of brotherhood forged in blood and steel alongside one another is one which is hard to break. Those of Hohkmat have taken up arms with Petra, standing with us and the Covenant. It is the wishes of the Petran Piece to express our utmost thanks to those of Hohkmat for their aid, their magic surely helped in the siege and it shall help in the future of the cracking and destruction of further walls. We are all united under the same banner, one which fights for various reasons, be it vengeance, justice, or simply for survival. We salute our magically inclined brothers and sisters in arms. He Missed??? Hold onto your hats folks! Rumors are ablaze that just before the impending Siege of Breakwater, the Guardian of Petra tied the knot at none other than the scorched ruins of St. Edmund’s Abbey. As the ceremony was about to commence, in marched the Pontiff himself, accompanied by John and other cohorts from Aaun, aiming to inspect the Abbey. Instead, they ended up becoming unexpected guests. But wait, it gets juicier! When the time came for the newlyweds to seal their union with a kiss, the Regent, in a moment of sheer nervousness, seemingly missed his blushing bride and planted a smooch on the ashen wall instead! Can you imagine the sheer embarrassment that must’ve followed? Talk about a kiss gone awry! An Interview with Aimo of Astor Interviewer: How do you think being in a landlocked keep affected the morale of the Ferrymen during their siege defense, and do you think it had any effect on the outcome of the battle? Aimo: I think that considering they don’t even use ferries that much unless it is to run away that it had no real effect on their morale. I would suspect that if anything the thing which brought them lower was the over saint hour/day straight bombardment which they had to endure. When we sallied out they gave some caution but not nearly enough and paid the price when they took a fight they had a very uphill fight to win. Interviewer: If you had to pick between saving the Petran Trout, or opening a new Daemonsteel mine for the war efforts along the banks of the Petra, which would you chose? Aimo: The trout are near and dear to my heart, but the point of saving the trout was for the Commonwealth herself. I would choose the Daemonsteel mine any day personally. It gets the most for our people in the long run. We cannot benefit from the trout if there is no Commonwealth afterall. Interviewer: Do you believe that the church is more or less holy now that it has been burnt, due to new holes in the windows and roof? Aimo: Holy or holey? Interviewer: Did not elaborate further Aimo: Well, as for holy I would argue it is a site of great tragedy yet perseverance, these places have the power that we give them. If we are to say that it has become more significant to us for all she has gone through and she is still up to shape for a coronation then who am I to argue the increased importance and value we give such. As for holey, yes. Interviewer: If you were to give one piece of long-winded advice to new or aspiring squires wishing to learn how to make waffles, what would it be? Aimo: Okay, so, you want to make waffles? First you need to dig down and ask yourself “Why waffles, what have they done for me, why this over anything else which you could prepare? Is this going to ruin my cutting phase or am I still bulking right now?” Once you have that figured out you need to figure out how you plan to make waffles, you need to choose a plan and execute on it. “Will there be complications?” Who knows, you need to plan for just about everything and anything. “Will these even be good?” Then you have to experiment with making waffles. “Do we know everything we can use to make these?” Honestly we probably don’t because perhaps a voidal mage using their magic to make waffles be better than using mundane fire under your mold. Anyways, getting off the point slightly, we need to experi- Hey, Cat, you’re interviewing here, you can’t cry, there is no crying when there are waffles, stop crying. STOP CRYING. [!] Several minutes of muffled sobbing later. Aimo: Okay, we are done crying. Anyways, where was I? Oh right, we need to experiment with waffles, we need to see everything through, we need to experience everything at least once so that we know whether it is good or bad and how good or bad it is. Like the time I went and seasoned a waffle with coconut crab meat, surprisingly good, the bastard of a crab deserved it. It is like that which you need to approach waffles and life with. You should approach most subjects with such curiosity, unless it is things like dark magic or darkspawn. Back to waffles, you need to experiment and try all types of things, lest you miss out on the waffles of life. Waffles, waffles, waffles, once you try all types of horrendous waffles and decide on what is actually good then you can know which waffles are good for you and which ones you should make and eat. Interviewer: What is the worst decision you think Veletz made leading up to this war and why? Aimo: Angering literally every realm. They could have not and had a much more manageable time, but they had to decide to just anger literally everyone they could and expect no consequences. They have put themselves in the chair, it is our job to make sure they sit in it Catriona’s Comics [!] A depiction of several of the monarchs of the Covenant, leaving behind their cushioned chairs to fight this righteous war. Aimo’s Astoran Word of the Volume Ykrok: Debt Upcoming Garmont Bills As of now, there are no more Garmont bills as of this Petran Piece’s publication. The mayor is as of current aiding the Queen in a task of her own making regarding the lawbook. Ask the Mayor Question: How has the recent ban on clay building affected the Petran Trout population? Answer: It has been good, the lack of harvesting clay from the river has helped to stabilize the environment and the riverbed overall. Question: What is your opinion on the up and coming mole society? Answer: What? Advertisements Ever been interested in owning your own living doll? Want to support the Commonwealth? [!] A letter is penned in response and swiftly sent to one Mimosa Applefoot. "I can understand the want for the use of coal, and believe me, there is still a use for which the Commonwealth of Petra more than ever needs coal. That is why we wish for an upscaling of production and mining of coal. The need for the burning of wood and charcoal is simple, coal will feed our artillery on the battlefield, we need vast swathes of such if we are to rain down fire upon the Anathema's forces. I can assure you that coal production will not fall by any means, our proud miners will not lose their jobs, if anything they shall have more to mine! This has nothing to do with the environment, merely continuing to feed the hungry war machine. Where there is a pull one must give slack so that the ship stays steady. -Sir Aimo of Astor."

MAYORAL ANNOUNCEMENT Black Lung is Patriotic Issued and averred by The Mayor SIR AIMO OF ASTOR BY THE WORD OF MAYOR SIR AIMO “THE ECCENTRIC, Tongue Taker” OF ASTOR, We find ourselves in a fierce struggle from which we need to emerge victorious from. Men, women, sons, and daughters of Petra we must come together in order to secure this war’s victory for our people. That requires one major thing, coal. Our Artillery although unmatched in the Siege of Breakwater requires ammunition, and such requires coal. Therefore I see it necessary to mandate the burning of wood and charcoal instead of coal for every day heating of homes and cooking. Until further notice, not a single piece of coal is to be burnt when charcoal or wood may take its place. Furthermore Black Lung Disease is to be declared a patriotic disease, one which shows the fervor and love for one’s homeland. To risk one’s own pain and health for the Commonwealth is a great sacrifice and one which will not go underappreciated. Aimo nodded at the order, getting to preparing for such. He remembered the meetings with the traitors and felt no remorse for the actions to come. THE PETRAN PIECE Vol. 2.5 Issued and averred by The Mayor AIMO OF ASTOR BREAKING NEWS: RABBITS RAMPAGE Hot off the press we have victory at Whitespire. After Stassionites murdered in cold blood the King of Aaun and many others, a group of men from Balian, Haense, and our own Commonwealth of Petra rendered aid as they were already on their way due to hopes for peace talks. Getting to the city and finding out the news they swiftly cut down the would be usurpers. Soon after a group of Stassionites, Veletzians, Orks, and Celianorians came upon those avenging the murder. One spoke up and singled out our Queen Catherine, a princeling who was cut down for not holding out his tongue. In the end it was a massacre for those who stood against virtue and honor with Balaian, Haense, and the Commonwealth of Petra slaughtering them to a man. Even still, our stalwart new allies the Dwed were on route to our aid, sealing that no matter the outcome they would not have walked away. A man for a hand? An army for a man and then some. "Long live Petra, long live the commonwealth, long live Bingleburg." Aimo declared this in his newsroom with the new news. Soon after though he went back to mulling over his conspiracy board.

Aimo, newly reelected thought on the results of things which transpired in his short absence. They had taken and kill Ghorm, for what? Because he had showed mercy, he should have listened to those without the power he had in the situation and just killed the man and been done with it. That way he wouldn't have cried like a child to the rest of his people begging for people to help him due to the "grave injustice" he thought done against him. Surely, in his mind, he thought these men knew nothing of virtue.

THE PETRAN PIECE Vol. 2 Issued and averred by Mayor Elect AIMO OF ASTOR Demons Abound A most worrying occurrence has happened within our great city. A demon has appeared, though it is no longer here anymore the people of the Commonwealth must remain vigilant and stalwart against such things. As such there are a few tips which ought to be shared around to the people. It is advised that one’s skin must be fully covered, with goggles possibly even in order to make sure the eyes are not hit. A wall of steel with range is also advised, spears, halberd, and whatever else behind shields. Further, it is also recommended that one should not try and fight one also, that in every point possible it should be fought by a larger force so as to wear it down from attacks on all sides. Beware the smell of brimstone, for it heralds the arrival of one. Abdication Since the last Petran Piece there has been much to talk about. One such thing is that of the abdication of the Lioness Renilde I. Such was a somber occasion for all gathered, for the Queen kept relative peace throughout many years of the realm. It is no doubt to those loyal to the Realm of Petra that the Lioness has earned her rest. Giant Spider and Manspider? A man dressed in red and blue has been spotted with a spider symbol on their chest within Petra. Should one see them I advise caution on approaching them, we know not yet what their intention is. Then later on the court was attacked by giant spiders, it could be coincidence but with the current goings on in the world who truly knows? Until then, I want more sketches of manspider! [!] A picture of the potential manspider An Interview with Catherine I at age 10 Interviewer: So, how are you adjusting to the change? Catherine I: You see, I’d say rather well. I have began to compartmentalize myself between Queen and child. I invited the Palatine of Haense into my treehouse for a meeting the other day, I must do my duty to both my country, and my childhood. Interviewer: So you would say that besides for your age you were prepared properly to undertake your duties? Catherine I: Absolutely not. Interviewer: Care to elaborate? Catherine I: I’m not too sure, there’s not really a guidebook. I was given this strange pamphlet by my grandmother that had something to do with being good, but that’s besides the point. I went to a lot of meetings, but I'm not really sure I paid attention enough at most of them. Interviewer: Well, if you only got a pamphlet from your grandmother dealing with something good to help guide you, what qualities do you think you have which will aid you well in your rule? Catherine I: Well, you see, I am honest and scared. So I think I’ll be good. Because if I’m scared, then I’ll try to do my best, and if I'm honest, then people can trust that I’m trying my best. Interviewer: Well, do you have anything you’d like to state to have be put in the Petran Piece? Anything you might want. Catherine I: I want friends. Please tell families that they need to come live in Petra so that I can be friends with their children. I am lonely. Catriona’s Comics [!] A depiction of the former Queen Renilde enjoying her favorite hobby Aimo’s Astoran Word of the Volume Sol: Day/Light Upcoming Garmont Bills As of current, there are no more Garmont bills as of this Petran Piece’s publication. The Petran Piece wishes all whom are running for elected positions the best of luck. Ask the Mayor Question: Have you sold houses? Answer: No, I am not a steward. Question: Has the settlement of Solland had a noticeable impact on the Petran Trout population, either positive or negative? Answer: I would be concerned if it were having an impact on the Petran Trout population. They are landlocked and part of the idea is farmsteads so to try and overfish the river would be of notable concern. As of yet there has been no effect though. Advertisements Are you a teenager? Do you have lack of all to do with your day? Then does this paper have the prospect for you! The queen is lonely, her station is one which demands much and needs people to support her. NOMINATIONS FOR THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR OF PETRA OF 1950
ColdestPepsi replied to Kaii's topic in The Capital City of Vallagne
Username: Coldestpepsi Persona Name: Sir Aimo of Astor Persona Age: 38 Place of Residence / Street Address: Dame Catherine vii -
Aimo sat in Artel's attic, resting after the long day. He thought of everything which had happened, the queen stepping down, his promotion, and more. "She was a good Queen to have been knighted under, there is ne denying that." he said to himself as he continued to think over the relative peace during his time under her reign, certainly a thing of beauty.

As Aimo left the meeting in which the paper had been worked out he could only think of how much his legs were killing him. Truly, this was his response to the events which had led up to this missive and nothing else could take his mind off of it at the moment. Nevertheless he and the rest of his compatriots at the meeting rode off, most of the ones with him likely feeling quite the same even if they weren't allowed to let such be known.

MAYORAL ANNOUNCEMENT A Mild Annoyance Issued and averred by The Mayor SIR AIMO OF ASTOR BY THE WORD OF MAYOR SIR AIMO “THE ECCENTRIC” OF ASTOR, A mild annoyance, that is all which those who seek to deface and target our humble church are. They are nothing but that, for our realm shall continue on having swiftly rectified the damages done to it and it having been swiftly reconsecrated by the Church. No amount done by Rat Cowards committing a juvenile act in the dead of night will shake the faith of the Petra. All this shall do is strengthen conviction and lead to more displays of such. For as the young Princess Catriona declared: For every act of vandalism against Canonism, A new shrine shall be erected within the Commonwealth. Until our borders are guarded by the Blessed, Our streets are lined with the Saints, And the Venerated watch the walls of Vallagne. This makes three to be constructed. Aimo walked into the Church, he was more annoyed than anything else. "Why is it always the same thing? It always seems to be blood and symbols of the deceiver, it is never original with these types. With how long these types seem to go on ye would think they would have some new ideas some time. Like, was it really necessary to etch into stone the queen shall die? Ne shit she'll die, she's ne trying to be immortal. I'm just at a loss for words at the lack of creativity at this point, ne excuse for ne coming up with something better after so long. At least Deadmund changes things up, makes it interesting. God, these people could learn a thing or two from him."

THE PETRAN PIECE Vol. 1 Issued and averred by The Mayor AIMO OF ASTOR An Update on the Petran Trout Despite the recent struggle of the Petran Trout the temporary ban on net fishing still in effect has helped lead to a significant resurgence of the fish within the river. Though this has helped the majestic creature rebound it must be noted that the trout still do not use the rocky gravel shallows of the River Petra for the production of smaller trout like they should likely do given it is the ideal environment for such. Though steady progress has been made more will need to be done on a community wide level in order to see the fish brought back fully from the brink. Magical City Manifests A new city has popped up in the commonwealth, the mages have finally, after many years brought the vision of their city to life! People flock from all across Aevos to see the mighty place. Some of the comments heard about the city have been: “wow” “amazing” and stunned silence. The city is welcoming to all people who wish to learn of the arcane, keep your eyes out for events hosted by the city in the coming weeks! New Stalls From within our great city we have had many changes, one of which is the creation of more market space for the burgeoning merchant class within the city. Stalls of both River Run and Star of the Republic contain more than enough space for merchants of small and large variety. It is the opinion of this newspaper that more of the Petran Commonwealth’s citizens should step into the market in an attempt to strike it big, be it with jewelry, ore, narcotics, and many other great commodities. Prices for these stalls go initially for 30 mina and are taxed about 20 mina a saint week. An Interview with the Chancellor Interviewer: Do you have any projects coming up within the Commonwealth? Konstantin: The Solland Settlement Act is nearing completion, which will hopefully stimulate economic development, alongside settlements of the regions outside of Vallagne. Interviewer: Could you go more in depth on a project? Konstantin: The Solland Settlement Act, despite its name, encompasses the regions surrounding Vallagne. These being of course, Solland, alongside Notrebanc and Mardonland. At current, there are a few vassals landed throughout the region, though ample farmlands still need to be tended. Thus, the aim of the act is to encourage intrepid Petran settlers to take advantage of this fact, and establish farmsteads or small hamlets. It is aimed primarily to families, veterans of the River Guard, and any who seek to eke out their existence outside of the capital. For any reader paying attention, I may be willing to fund the first few farmstead payments from my own bank, this is how much I desire to see the project thrive! Interviewer: Do you have anything else you might wish to say to anyone within our great commonwealth? Konstantin: The Commonwealth is a land filled with diverse peoples and opinions. As Chancellor I’ve tried to seek out the good denizens of the realm, though I always encourage any with questions, desires to find work within the government or just if they wished to discuss policy to send me a bird. I do not bite, and I recently had a very good conversation with a man of Chambery who, despite our disagreements in policy, did remind me of the ideals upon which the Commonwealth stands. I hope to help steer to maintain these ideals in the coming years. Gossip Column Gather 'round, dear readers, as we delve into the most enthralling segment of this cherished column. One bill which seeks to bring a site of recent national sadness to be turned into something which can be remembered for generations to come and brought to be something which shall never be forgotten. The other bill is one which seeks to uproot the mayor’s office, trying to both push out the current mayor and vastly limit what they might do. Such it is in this paper and its contributor’s opinions that this second bill will lead to naught but bureaucratic bloat. Ask the Mayor It is the idea of this section that I wish for any of the dear readers of this paper to have their questions answered in future editions, all I ask is that these questions be birded to me and I will do my best to answer the most pertinent of these. Advertisements Imagine, your advertisement in this very section, future volumes are hoped to be funded in part by ads which the people may submit for 25 mina, 15 if you are a noble of Petra or own a home within the commonwealth. Catherine's way homes inhabited must have a minimum of three frogs cohabiting in or around said home. Residents of Commonwealth Lane and Commonwealth Boulevard must use the tic tac toe board in the tavern in order for inter street disputes to establish the victor and who is the better commonwealth street. MAYORAL ANNOUNCEMENT A Curse Broken Issued and averred by The Mayor AIMO OF ASTOR BY THE WORD OF MAYOR SIR AIMO “THE ECCENTRIC” OF ASTOR, As I stood guard in a meeting for our royals I was assailed by unknown forces which caused me to falter through the reality we know. One moment I was where I should be, the next I was in a hallway of fabric flooring, yellow walls enhanced by the lighting which was lodged into the roof of it, almost everything looking nearly the same. Getting my bearings I sought to use the old method of dealing with mazes, pick a wall and hug it, as I did so I happened upon a pipe and went in. This area was different, I had to cross an opening and cross through rooms which looked like sewers, these rooms I trudged through knee deep water. Something was behind me, something which was following me and coming quick, it sounded like a child. I picked up my pace, not trusting who I did not know in a place I knew not where. I made sure to cover my tracks and limit the progress of what was following me before I was cornered between what seemed like an infinite fall and it. I decided to take the plunge and as I looked back I saw that which had pursued me. It looked like a cultist adorned in all black, a same colored veil which covered the crimson eyes which stared at me during my plummet. The fall seemed to be endless and yet also instant. Either an eternity or a moment later I landed back in the room I left. I know not where I landed the first time I seemingly warped in and out of reality, yet I know that the curse of the mayor dying to the first unfortunate thing to happen to them has ended. As of current my witnesses are the following: Queen Renilde The Heir Catriona The Chanzle Konstantin With this I declare the curse of the mayor broken.
