  3. In the night, Bywater rests. And in Bywater, a horrific thunderclap CRACK rang throughout the village. Those who cared to investigate would spot a stark blemish within their jovial market. A once viridescent tree has been reduced to a withered amalg of blackened bark, stripped of its leaves and even the common bird or squirrel. Along its trunk, a large crevasse, splintered and fragmented in every which way. The grass and flowers at its feet, too, have shriveled not to lifelessness, but to corruption. Druids who attempt to commune with this tree meet total, obsolete silence — a testament to the state of these trees and the intention of its doer.

  9. i was gonna make a similar concern this is gonna be a bit subjecctive but a lot of these spells feel just very bland if not boring. ork strength. ork punch. olog strength. olog punch. magic spells usable in combat should serve to make CRP interesting to engage with, and many of the spells here don't really accomplish that. they all feel the same and not that distinct from one another bardmancy and demi djinn are both good examples imo of lore with interesting crp mechanics that don't serve to just almost instantly break your opponents ribs or jaw with one orc strength punch also agree on the tadasanda thing with what cal said. could definitely use some balancing and clarification. is it a PK of the character? if not, could the character re-learn chi? there's also just a lot of implications with olog strength. the biggest redline with ologs is that they're mentally inept (even if most olog players dont RP it to truth), which this spell wholly negates so then you just become an essentially unbeatable tank for 10 rounds, and thats not even mentioning the increased speed and -1 emote count high cost =/= balanced spell. it shouldn't be unwinnable, and 10 rounds of emotes is an extremely long time in a CRP encounter on top of every other implication of this spell
  10. Fft... fft... Through stacks of discarded papers and novels, a pair of hands sort through. One in particular, written from the elven capital Amaethea, catches its reader's attention. The man is quick to train on its contents, a quicker revelation meeting him then as he made haste for a corkboard and pins it by a corner. "Its a novel tactic, the way mice lecture death to vultures."
  11. yes im glad this is something we agree on. so why continue to advocate the idea that we shouldn't be letting applicants in who are subpar RPers? it's this superiority complex over new players that I hate, because we have literally all been this way at some point (if you say you havent you are lying). even well-established and veteran players, because it's really really challenging not to fall into this mindset when everything you do happens in YOUR point of view (and there's nothing inherently even wrong with this, let alone should it be used as a reason to dunk on new players, as long as it doesn't obstruct the RP or narrative of others) not everything needs to be a 40 line novella. people should be able to write the way they want instead of cater to YOUR ideal level of RP. if you don't like it, don't RP with new players, because the precedent you're setting is that new players should just be able to write multi-lined emotes on their first day of joining like I literally agree with mostly everything in this post except this idea that new players who are bad RPers are inherently bad for the server and shouldn't be accepted. but you keep buckling down on this and its why im so confused as to where you actually stand because I'm reading two different things when you dunk on new players for having bad emotes vs concurring with the idea that new players should gain experience by being around other established players I don't know if there's some language barrier here but it really feels like you should be more worried about specifying what it is the CT can do to help make understanding certain functions of the server easier to applicants instead of shitting on new players for what are objectively harmless and benign things like emote length and emote quality??
  12. none of these speak of one's ability to write though. being subpar at writing doesn't correlate to you being pugsied by a player who just doesn't understand how the mechanics of RP itself work. and stop overexaggerating about your fear of being downed by a pinktag like you won't just get immediately revived and get your stuff back from a mod and the new player either learns from the mistake or gets kicked "I don't care if you have bad grammar or writing" but immediately follows up with saying that you don't want to see "horrible one-liners" you can't talk about horrible one-liners and poor emoters and not wanting to let bad roleplayers into the server and say it's not elitist, and furthermore justify it with "but standards" what standards? the standard of being the server that denies a 14 y/o boy with dyslexia because they aren't good enough at writing? or literally any kid who wants to roleplay? who are we trying to impress here? and i don't even know where you actually stand on this because your entire response has pivoted between "no bad roleplayers on the server" and "I don't care about bad roleplayers" people can be bad at writing and still be passionate about the server and the RP they do. that's what 50% of the server's playerbase is. if people who were bad at writing didn't care about the server, then lotc wouldn't still have the playerbase it does. it'd have a lot less players than it does now and being a subpar RPer speaks nothing of one's actual enjoyment of it or LOTC as a hobby in the context of lotc, where literally every single player started out not knowing the very basics of RP, yes, it is. you were bad at writing at one point too. i was bad at writing. we learn from roleplaying with other people. if you actually have an interest in helping new players, your first response should be to allow them into an environment where they're exposed to more experienced writers, not bar them from joining because they aren't good enough for your "standards" either you're bad at articulating what you mean or you went in a circle because this is exactly what I was saying but it's something you quoted in contention
  13. stop I am so tired of this elitist take that new players need to be good at roleplay to join the server that's what lotc is. we should be willing to help people improve and develop their writing skills. it's how literally all of us improved and new players shouldn't be gatekept from the server because they aren't as good a writer as you are

  16. do we really want to be more like reddit
  17. if a silit "dies a supid death" that's either their fault for being irresponsible RPly, or they need to actually report the situation to mods or LT if it was OOC levels of stupid and no not really. i'm not a silit player but i feel like this can be stated across the board for all CAs and magics, that if you want to actually improve it and make it what its worth, focus on the actual mechanics that make it bad. focus on the things that actually hinder the community and roleplay. i cant express enough how off the mark this is with just lowering revival cooldowns and calling it "a needed buff" and then using the fact that it's a weak CA to justify it, and furthermore for a CA where it makes sense in their lore that being burnt at the stake would grant a 1 month OOC cooldown. what you want and what you wrote have almost no correlation what is this actually doing to make it stronger? how does this improve silit rp? how does it influence character development?
  18. this really just feel like it encourages non-consequence upon death regardless of how strong or weak a CA is, a CA that is immortal should not be given, in its most basic form, a cooldown that they could effectively ignore by taking a small break or logging off for the night this doesn't actually solve the issue of there not being any character development with either. but I mean like... why would there be? you died, you lost, there's not really a way to write that without literally circumventing revival mechanics and allowing silit to remember the details of their death the current revival mechanics should be the standard for all immortal CAs imo
  19. I wasn't suggesting we don't have map transitions at all, I was pointing out that we can mechanically have a new map but remain on our canonical continent instead of the same regurgitated world-catastrophe eventlines that sends us overseas at the behest of the monks once every 2 years that id argue a good chunk of the established playerbase completely ignores because it's gotten so dull flavorless at this point for example, building map lore around the exploration of the descendants discovering new land and constructing eventlines in such a way that they aren't constantly a giant world-event boss battle with 130+ players. this isn't even something that would require tech intervention, just the story teams willingness to try something new and write map lore in a way that actually encourages players to incorporate it into their day-to-day RP
  20. not to be a buzzkill but after 10 years u would think we'd think of something new and different to justify a map transition that isn't *world catastrophe that forces us all to migrate to a new continent for the nth time* it gets boring after a while and I just hope that this map transition eventline yields something different and less obtrusive
