  6. [I haven't done any writing on the forums in a long time, and since this sub-forum is never used I wanted to share an English project here, I hope y'all like it] - Darkness adorned with sprinkles of starry light surrounded her. Her apparent lifeless body was being kept in a mechanical bed, extending her life in deep sleep for the years-long journey through the stars. Her small space ship buzzed and beeped with no end, piloting itself to a new world full of promise and hope. She wore a humble, white uniform; and printed on her name-tag was the name “Laura.” If only Laura’s human body allowed her to stay alive long enough without mechanical assistance to be conscious for the duration of her journey, for the cosmos would prove to be an unforgettable sight to a sleeping passenger. An experience that causes men to believe in God, to believe in wonder, and to believe in hope. The same experience furthermore humbles mankind; for it isn’t until one can fly through the stars that they realize how insignificant they are, how insignificant their planet is, and how insignificant the very galaxy that their planet resides in is. The peaceful travelling lasted for years. For decades, the drifting of a mechanical vessel through the stars carried but a sleeping passenger. Her cryosleep took care of everything. She needed no food, no water, no trees to produce oxygen; the machine handled it all. Throughout history, humans spent thousands of years learning ways to survive. Ancient tribes and nomadic hunter-gatherers revered fire as divine, and believed that lightning was a cosmic miracle filled with the gods’ rage. Then thousands of years later, technological art of all kinds were discovered; engineered art which saved the lives of thousands, and cut away the burden of primal survival. Factory, computer, and robot were bringers of life, until humans caused them to become bringers of death. As their greed grew, so too did the impact of their creations. Their planet, a floating paradise among barren worlds, was ruined. And the half divine, half flawed cycle repeated once again; saving mankind from their destroyed world, to send them into the stars to new worlds. Such machinery in this second age of survival was truly remarkable. “Perfect,” the engineers claimed in bouts of self-assurance. Though, is man’s idea of perfect enough? The beeping and whirring of the spacecraft machinery seemed as if they could experience the complexities of human emotion. As a human screams and trembles in response to fear, so too did the machinery fall into desperate, raw chaos. Peaceful beeps became terrified alarms, blasting out warnings that not a soul could hear, let alone respond to. The “perfect” space ship’s construction unraveled itself, exposing the faults of the engineers, or what are truly the faults of mankind. A solar panel creaked and groaned, until it cracked away from the flying vessel and became an object hurling into space. Though it originated from chaos, the panel soon found its peace drifting eternally through deep space; awaiting for its chance to become a part of a distant orbit, or to be consumed by a devouring black hole. Like a delicate flower releasing its pollen, the shining metal ship released pieces of itself, one by one. And in contrast to the never-ending darkness of space, the spaceship furthermore appeared as a lone, beautiful flower; which happened to grow in contrast to a wide, plain, and open meadow. A flower’s beauty, however, is only temporary. When the sun is further from the planet, and life begins to feel the chilling cold of the season's shift, a flower’s petals decay and fall to the ground. And as if deep space found itself in a new season, causing stars to go into hibernation and galaxies to fill with snow, the mechanical flower that is the spaceship wilted and fell. With no direction, the spaceship fell through space for months, lost and unguided. And the flaws of the engineers were saved from becoming more drastic, for the power still kept Laura alive in her cryosleep. Decades later, the remnant vessel was pulled into a solar system. As if the stars themselves had aligned, the pull of a planet’s orbit guided the spaceship towards itself. For a moment it looked like a shooting star, combusting as it fell through the planet's atmosphere. With another round of emotion-like beeping and whirring, a show-stopping explosion met the ground of the planet, impact. Amidst a large crater, parts of the vessel remained intact. The sound of a mechanical bed opening filled the air, followed by the groaning of a woman. Laura opened her eyes, and joined the machinery’s sounds in panic of her own. She reached for her communications device, but found nobody on the other end. With a glance to the few computers that survived the horrendous journey, she realized there was oxygen within this planet’s atmosphere. There were no toxins in the air detected, and if the machinery after all its malfunctions could be trusted, she could leave the ship and survive. Days passed as she stayed inside the ship and salvaged food and water stored within that she could survive off of. Although eventually, these means for survival ran out. She hurried to fill a backpack with as many tools as she thought she’d need, and opened the cargo door. Before her was a green world, filled with trees and rivers and foreign animals of all kinds. The world was untouched by a developed species, unclaimed by the greedy hands of mankind. Laura inhaled the air, and pushed her right foot forwards. It pressed onto the ground, leaving a footprint from who was likely the first human to do so. Her survival on this planet depended on the methods the ancient tribes and nomadic peoples relied on. In a cruel, vengeful twist of fate, mankind’s cycle of invention and corruption met Laura in its first stage, born from the corruption sprouting from invention.

  14. Yeah that’s not what any of these potions did at all Great idea! I’ll add that right now
  15. After thinking through your suggestions, I modified that bit to still require a woman present, while still having an ingredient explanation.
  16. I expected this type of criticism, however I left that part of the potion in my desire of having something more whimsical in alchemy RP. If the ST decide I need to change it, then so be it. The potions should have no issues with any of the lore-submitted flora: The Ame’lie one functions just as it would normally, except growing side by side, yet fused, with other trees. Besides that, there’s no changes or benefits besides convenience of location & space. The solitude one actually would be an inconvenience on lore plants, because you wouldn’t be able to harvest seeds from them and therefore farm more of them. Besides this, it affects the plant in no way. And I thought it was quite clear in the Kholibrii one, that it’s simply a glass-like shape left of the flower, and bears none of the effects of the actual flower.
  17. The most wide-spread image that comes to mind when the word ‘alchemy’ is uttered is that of a mad scientist, rambling away about equations explaining the universe. Descendants furthermore think of expansive libraries, containing books filled with foreign symbols only understood by few scientists. They also imagine large, advanced labs containing sophisticated devices. What most who imagine this don’t realize, however, is that alchemy is something far beyond this limiting stereotype. It is a universal area and study, which has been performed throughout history without modern theories about the material alphabet and reality. From these various applications within such a field, one culture demonstrated a unique, primal and naturalistic interpretation of this interesting study. Elillen’ame Gift of the Forest - “Only a foolish man doubts the blessings that come from the natural world.” The ancient Seeds of Mali’ame lived nomadic, primal lives. These tribes were far more intelligent than what Descendants tend to give them credit for, however. Of course, they lived lives much different than advanced societies and Descendants who were librarians, scientists, and wizards. But when it came to the natural world, few societies understood it as deeply as they did. The forests were sacred to Mali’ame life, and from this knowledge came several practices that aided in their survival. Mali’ame medicine men and wise women utilized herbs to create salves, balms, teas, and infusions to heal their people. Furthermore, they employed some of these herbs in more advanced, sacred practices; what they regarded as Elillen’ame, or The Gift of the Forest. Oral stories of this ancient, primal art were passed on within the Seeds to the modern age, although the true origins of these stories were severely disregarded. Some Mali believed it was simply Druidism, others believed it was a lost gift from the Aspects or the Mani. Still, some humans throughout history who caught glimpses of this art believed it was witchcraft, only adding to their modern religious belief of Mali’ame being savages and witches. With the recent establishment of an apothecary in the Mali’ame village known as Siramenor, the modern medicine men and wise women of various Seeds gathered together to teach each other natural medicine and to employ it on their people. They shared their folktales, legends, and personal remedies and learned that the stories of Elillen’ame were not mere fairy tales. Instead, they discovered that their ancestors developed an early practice of alchemy. As opposed to distillation apparatus, ovens, and modern tools however; these potions and trinkets were made through much more primal means such as pestle & mortars, cauldrons, and campfires. From this acquired knowledge, a collection of potions were re-discovered, once long-lost but in plain sight to their people. - [The following potions are all categorized as rare, requiring the recipes to be discovered IRPly from those who discovered or have been taught them] Cerridwen’s Tears [T2] [ST Signature Not Required] - Bearing the curse of infertility, the wise women of Mali’ame tribes often sought out various properties within herbs that could potentially help their fellow women become pregnant. Using what they had discovered in alchemical herbs, they attempted to create a potion to cure their infertility. They could not find a way to remove their curse, however they found something helpful to pregnant mothers regardless. A potion that assisted with the development of an infant, prevented miscarriage, and that helped position an infant correctly just prior to labor. Recipe Process Effects Redlines Waters of Ame’lie [T1] [St Signature Required] - Ame’lie have long been a constant part of Mali’ame life. These specific types of trees provide tools for crafting, food for nourishment, and flowers for Tiva and pigments; all while having little impact on the environment, as opposed to farming. Some Mali’ame Seeds, instead of breeding trees over the span of years or nurturing rare trees, found a way to create their own. One of these was an alchemical potion that allowed them to merge together the seeds of any tree that bears fruit. With this invention, a Seed could be entirely provided with a varied diet from a singular tree. Recipe Process Effects Redlines Hamatsa’s Charm [T3] [ST Signature Required] - Mali’ame have practiced herbal healing from their earliest days. After discovering that a few specific herbs could be used together to induce a sense of calmness, the medicine men and wise women created a charm from them, believing that Hamatsa, the Dolphin Goddess of Healers, had blessed the herbs herself. This charm was hung in healing huts to soothe the spirits of all present, limiting the chaos and distractions of unsettled and fearful wounded, as well as loved ones of the wounded. Recipe Process Effects Redlines Whispers of Solitude [T2] [ST Signature Not Required] - The Mali’ame tribes shun the use of farms. They flatten the land, introduce foreign species to ecosystems, and reduce the fertility of the soil. This is the reason for their Ame’lie, however there are still some herbs that Mali’ame have cultivated over the years besides these unique trees. Healers, artists, and cooks all required their own herbs and plants. They kept these gardens small, however the risk of the foreign plants spreading into the forests they don’t belong in was still high. Practicers of Elillen’ame developed a potion for this exact problem; allowing their tribes to grow their own plants without them becoming invasive to their own forests, without causing pain or harm to nature. Recipe Process Effects Redlines Echo of Kholibrii [T1] [ST Signature Not Required] - Tiva is a remarkable piece of Mali’ame culture. Although in the present day it has been mostly lost due to lack of documentation, the ancient Mali’ame tribes utilized it daily and fluently. This language of flowers could soon become quite taxing on the flower populations, because their Tiva wreaths would soon wither. Fortunately, Elillen’ame offered a solution to prevent any waste in the common use of Tiva. A potion that can be poured over a flower, causing a glass-like replica of it to form when the time comes for it to wither. Recipe Process Effects Redlines
