Warning At Hidden And Non Written Lore

Good day gentlemen and ladies.

Throughout my time as Lore Master, one of the problems we've always had seemed to be the existence of "Hidden Lore". Hidden lore, if anyone doesn't know, is lore that isn't know to anyone besides the maker, and users of such lore. Right now there are lore like that, mostly to do with event lines. Example is the current AengulDaemon descension events, as making known to the players would kind of ruin most of the events. The biggest problem with hidden lore, is the lore that not even the Lore Masters known about. If nothing is written anywhere about a lore, then the only way a Lore Master can know about it is by talking to the user of the hidden lore, and sometimes having to go from politely asking to demanding that the player tells the Lore Master why their human is immortal. You might say "immortal humans are just powergaming" but the fact is that there are exceptions, there are ways that 'humans' can be immortal. As you might guess, most reasons are BS.

BS is one of the reasons we need to know hidden lore. If no one knows how the lore is, then no one knows that he's making up BS as he goes. Shades for a long time had this problem, everyone knew they existed, everyone knew they did magic that was... well... dark and shady, but yet no one knew the limitations of the magic, and that resulted in a magic that could do everything at any time. For creatures and magic this has the biggest problems. Magic have limits and guidelines, and if players that don't know the magic can't check on those limitations, they can be BS'ed and not even know it's BS. Creatures have to have strengths and weaknesses, if there isn't a document or text stating those, then it can just be BS'ed on the spot.

As such, the LM's have decided, no more Hidden Lore, and together with that, lore that needs to be written down for players to read (that isn't exactly hidden) has to be written down as well.

Everyone on the server will have 2 weeks to write down the lore that is hidden or told needs to be written. (Till 11/04 or 04/11 for Americans)

The lore doesn't have to be extensive, it doesn't need to be. If it's a creature, the history of the creature is far less important than it's strengths and weaknesses. If it's a magic, the magics they can use and the redlines are far more important than the history of how it came to be. If those things need to be added, or if you want to add them, you can do it after the 2 weeks without feeling pressured.

Lore Masters can help, but you should be the one to write it down. Questions are something you can ask all Loremasters, but even if you don't receive an answer, keep writing. If you deliver the lore before the end of the 2 weeks and the lore simply is not good enough yet, you will be helped and no longer have to worry about a deadline.

If you can't write the lore in 2 weeks, write what you can, and give it to the Lore Masters unfinished.

If you do not deliver the lore in the two weeks what will happen is that either the lore will simply not exist, or if the lore clearly exists IG, it will be written by the Lore Masters as they see the lore, which means it will most likely be different than what you intend it to be.

If you want part of a lore to be hidden from normal players, state that part in the text you send a Lore Master. We just need the documentation.

Some lores that aren't really hidden, aren't written as well. These need to be written to easily be accessed by players. The same rules apply. You have 2 weeks to send something to the LMs, if you don't, it's written for you without your input. Here is a list of the things that have lore but need to be written down:

  • Necromancer magic - Needs an update, the old magic guide is extremely outdated.
  • Xan magic - Done! - Tsuyose has taken charge.
  • Ascended magic - Done!
  • Itharels - Done!
  • Dread Knights - Done!
  • Ikuras - Right now there is so little lore it's becoming powergaming.
  • Monk magic - Done!

If you started leading a project and don't want others doing the same without speaking to you, simply state in the thread that you're working on it, and the name will be added in yellow in front of it like Tsuyose's. When the lore is done, it'll be edited in green color like Itharel's. If you know of lore that you think is hidden or think doesn't have enough information posted on the forums, please comment on this thread stating it.

Note: Event creatures, event magic, and event anything created by ET members, does not fit into this deadline. Event Team members simply need to follow the rules of event creation.

Thank you for your time,

     The Lore Masters

grrr. This is written by Richard Willowswamp.

((This isn't set in stone, it's just explanations for different blood lines of Halflings. If you're so upset go file a complaint I don't know. Just made this for fun :P ))

If you’ve ever visited the Halfling’s lands, you may have
seen a large book, red bended, the words ‘The Wonderful World Of Wee Folk on
it. If you read it, it holds the following.

“Today, let us talk about the different ‘Types’ of the
Halfling community. This may seem odd to you Big Fellows, but it is not
uncommon to us. We’ll start with the known origins to Hobbits, something simple
for you to understand.

It is common thought that the original Hobbits were the
creation of Dwarven-Human breeding. Although understandable as to why this was
thought, it is wrong. Human and Dwarvish breeding would only ever make an unknown
mix-race, somewhere in between the height and stoutness of a Dwarf and a Human.
These unnamed beings, the children of race-mixture, are believed to be the
Ancestors of all Halfling-like species. These men and women, between one and
possibly more generations, created the Hobbits. Hobbits are smaller than
Dwarves, and have, usually, less muscles and frame. For this reason, Hobbits
are considered the ‘purist’ part of our small community. Let us take a look at
this, so far.

Human + Dwarf = Unknown Mix Breed + Unknown Mix Breed =
Hobbits.

On to the more famous breed, the Halflings. These are the
most common breeds. Most of the ‘short people’ you Big Fellows meet are most
likely Halflings rather than anything else. Why this breed became so prevalent
is most likely just luck, as there are no, or very few, differences between
Hobbits and Halflings. Halflings originate from Hobbits and the Unknown Mix Race.
This resulted in another Hobbit, with the only difference being blood. Halfling
or Hobbits will tell you differently, however. Hobbits will most likely tell
you they’re superior by blood, while Halflings will tell you they are superior
physically. There is no real proof to support any such claims…

Hobbits + Unknown Mix Breed = Halfling.

On to a less popular breed, the Gnomes. Gnomes are rarity,
very uncommon, as their bloodlines have slowly dried up. The actually origins
of Gnomes is blurry at best, most theories stemming from old bloodline notes,
which are not very resourceful. The two common ideas are that Gnomes originated
from Halfling-Dwarvish Mix, but this is odd as Gnomes are much smaller than the
other breeds. The second hypothesis, and the more agreed, is that some genetic
defect created the original Gnome, making him/her very small. Thus, inbreeding
with Halflings created slightly odd race… Gnomes are usually only 1 – 2 feet
tall on average, but have unchallenged stamina. They often handle physical work
much easier than most Halflings, and are commonly less lazy. On the other hand,
they commonly have a harder time learning, reading, writing, etc.

? +? = Gnome +Gnome = More Gnomes

On to, what Halflings commonly refer to as ‘Devil Halfings’,
Munchkins. These “Munchkins” are extremely rare, to the point some have
considered them people of myth. They are believed to be the spawn of Undead
breeding with Halflings, an odd idea indeed. Often the same size as
Halfling/Hobbits, they are much more hairy. Magically vivid, some tall tales
say they can fly, teleport, walk through walls, see in the dark, morph shape,
summon the monsters of the night, control minds, levitate objects, or even, in
one tale that Milo told one drunken night, they can rip a tear in time and
space, bringing forth creatures from other dimensions. They are often more mischievous,
favoring dark humor, or even laughing at death or pain in friends, family,
bystanders, or even themselves. Very selfish, very rude, and evil by some
stories, the Halflings sometimes blame them for unexplainable misfortunes. They
are an odd species, indeed, if they do exist.

Halfling + Undead = Munchkin

The most hidden form of our beloved race, the Hobs… Taboo to
speak of, in most cases, these are the children of Goblins and Hobbits. Usually
deformed, with multiple physical and mental defects, if they even survive
birth. They are not a regular sight, half because of the survival rate and half
because of their actual birth rate, as it is uncommon for a Halfling/Hobbit to
fall in love with a Goblin. Those who are born, and live to an old age, are
usually savants, oddly enough. They are usually green skinned, with a Halfling
bone structure, although the reality depends truly on how nature works, as not
every Hob will look the same.

More shall be added in the times to come, there’s a lot of
us wee folk out there, you’d be surprised. We are the most diverse of any race,
you see…”

Is this for lore that has been accepted or lore that has yet to reach the roleplay ideas section but will be considered hidden for the most part?

Bryophites are being worked on in that respect, probably finished by the end of this week.

Waiting for all lore that has been stated as hidden is denied and years of work or so goes undone.

It's all a ruse gents, don't fall into it!

They're infringing on our personal lives! It's the NSA all over again!

If it hasn't reached the roleplay ideas and hasn't been accepted, and needs to be accepted... well... What KarmaDelta says above might happen. It's worse if you don't send a pm or a text about it though, because by then, it'll just be said to not exist.

If you mean roleplay ideas that you want hidden, go ahead and send them, they will just be passed through a normal vote but if accepted, will be hidden lore.

Taking up Ikuras with hugothechamp and watyll. We've already started revising it and fleshing it out on google documents, but IRL duties have taken priority over LotC matters lately - - - which leads me to my last thing; Is it possible to get time until 15th of May?

The reasoning behind this is that university entry examinations and pre-entry tasks have been given out and I really really really need to get into an university. In addition to that, we all live in very different timezones and working together is very hard when we don't have time other than weekends. Actually, it could be sensible to postpone the time on the sunday anyways, so that people can actually work together.

Just send what you have done before the deadline. If you do that, then you don't have to worry about the deadline anymore. If there are 3 of you, then while you're busy, the other 2 can work. There will not be an extension of the date, we said we'll accept incomplete lores as well if needed.

This one time in Asulon I met a half-dragon pyromancer who went hulk half way through my conversation with him.

Stupid? Sure. Powergamey? Of course.

But yet I still miss lore freedom.

Oh well.

At least now everything will be documented and categorized.
