I say keep it. It adds a sort of familiarity that people can associate with the server rather than regular minecraft mechanics. Our own calling card if you will.

A calling card that annoys everyone isn't exactly a calling card that we want associated with us. I, myself try to get down there whenever I can and RP with the dead folk, but I realize that it's not a common occurence.

Looks like there are two ideas proposed in this thread.

1. Get rid of it or,

2. Give you something to do while you're dead.

While I think the second option is good, it'll only lead to more community discontent eventually. People will get bored and demand the complete removal of the crypt yet again. Keeping that in mind, it'd probably be best to simply be rid of it. I enjoy it, but I know that 90% of the server doesn't.

Do not remove it.

 

The Crypt in itself is here to add a time delay for people that have just died, so it's a sentence in all terms. But it generates roleplay for people around you within the sense of the monks healing your body/soul while you are inside of it. If you respawn instantly than why bother having anything to do with the monks? It serves a RP purpose when all you see it as teederous.

 

I know it can be annoying at times, or most times when you die, even I feel that. But in the end it serves for roleplay, since in cases I have seen. People that awake thank the monks, although if the plug-in is removed, you will just walk off or run away screaming "Healed, Healed, Healed" or nothing at all, not even noticing that the monks exist. It serves as a roleplay purpose for what ever reason or what ever killed you.

We don't need a time delay. There's still a rule against returning to where you died within 30 minutes, so forcing you to sit in a decorated box for 5 minutes achieves nothing. The Crypt does not generate even the slightest bit of RP. If you get killed, people are gonna RP that you got killed whether you're sitting in a box or not. If you just re-appear straight away, they're gonna get irritated that you didn't wait the 30 minutes. And further more, you don't have anything to do with the monks anyway. There's no monks in the Crypt RP healing you. Nor do you actually see any when you emerge from the Crypt, the majority of the time. Saying it serves for roleplay is garbage. Whether or not people feel like thanking the monk isn't determined by how long they spend irritated in a box. People can still run away screaming "Healed, Healed, Healed" after spending 5 minutes irritated in a box. Most people still don't notice the monks exist most of the time anyway, because you're not in that box healing people like you imply.

I find that you accuse myself of things that are not true in this post. So I will state them first.

 

I do have a monk character, I have had him for many a months. For the crypt I have been working upon it to fix things inside of it currently.

 

Now, the crypt serves a purpose yes, you might not see it inside of it. But it does when you are scoring out, although many or all see it as a time out box, see it as an relaxation box. The monks are healing your body/soul, players or NPC's do this when someone falls into the crypt. Although the Crypt in itself could generate role play if you start it, when you come out. You have a new refreshing body.

The Crypt in itself does generate role play, I am sorry if you do not see it in yourself. Although as the OP has claimed, it brings people not to die more so. Than simply, don't get into fights, or PvP the fights out. The Crypt was within role play created by the monks for times to pass while we heal your body. If you wish to remove it, ask the monks within role play or do something else in your time, 5 minutes isn't your life or role play. With the 30 minute rule, yes it still does imply, but this also makes sure that you do not go into that area. Try to understand why the crypt is here, besides looking over it as yourself.

I hate to bump my own thread, but I still think this needs to be looked at. I see you've added a parkour course to the crypt, but that still doesn't change that you're locked up without RP for five minutes for no reason. And with the change to PvP default, there will probably be more frequent instances of MC death.

 

The parkour course is just boring you do it once bam its done and when it first came out (maybe even still now) It didn't even have perm protecting all of it so it was griefable  they should give something Good to do not a one time parkour course that only gives fun to the people that enjoy parkour or just remove it totally. Like i have said before its point was Have RP in the crypt and it has not done it at all only making lotc less enjoyable. also not matter what you add to make it fun unless it gets changed every month or so it will get boring and people will want it removed again.

Yeah, sorry to say, but unless the crypt can provide an exemption from zombie deaths or other misc. bullshit

The crypt is not active at the moment. Whether it was removed or if it's just not working due to technical difficulties, I don't know. If it was removed intentionally, I would guess that means this topic is resolved?

I almost think of the crypt as a "rage cooldown box". I mean, I'm guessing more than a few people get mad that they lost the fight, and need 5 minutes to recuperate. But no, this doesn't apply to everyone.

And on the idea of it stopping people returning to a death area... Nope. It doesn't help that whatsoever. Maybe add some sort of restriction I've seen in servers like MineZ, where you try to walk to an area and it bumps you back to where you were and says "You can't go that way." It could last for 30 minutes, and you don't have to wait without role play, as you could simply go somewhere else to rp.

The crypt has been removed. I apologise, I created the crypt design and suggested it due to overwhelming player requests.
