Pvp default rule.

  1. 1. So should the default rule stay pvp? Or go to rp?

This is not a RP server. It was clarified that is now  a RP-RPG. I'm not a huge fan of it either, but oh well.

 

And the Elves dont' have RP Default. People just call PVP default less there. 

Sorry but what you just said doesn't make sense. You said this is not a rp server, then right after said it's an rp-/rp/g server. What? Regardless, rp is still done here. Also rpg or rp doesn't mean pvp. Rpg just means there are single player aspects, like quests. Skyrim is an rpg to give an example, and there is no pvp there.

We've had fewer ban reports, fewer VA revokes, and fewer reports of powergaming since PVP was made default. Likewise, the vast majority of combat has remained RP fighting. As someone who prefers RP fighting to PVP fighting, it's clear that not only are there less problems with PVP default, but the quality of RP fights improves greatly with PVP default. Please keep it this way, it helps the server immensely.

That is why I added the rp with rolls option. That will keep people from pging, and having to revoke VA's. It will also stop the crazy things where people come in shouting this is a raid pvp default, and then counting down to fight. Or when someone is rp fighting, and suddenly the other person has to go, and they're like pvp default. Both things to me are worse for the server. Worse cause they don't involve what the server is built around, that being rp. I've heard some of the vet players in TS saying the server is dying. I wonder have they been saying this since the pvp default rule was made? Maybe the rule is running off people who actually hate pvp. Sure there will be alot of people saying pvp is fun, but that's why they make pvp servers. For those people. I think turning to pvp as a default rule on an rp server is asking for a death wish for the server. Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I know. The people who love rp aren't huge fans of pvp. Maybe in this community that might be the case, but that's yet to be seen.

 The red line makes me wonder though. Was that the best choice? I'll bet you don't have any great memories like you did from then, now that pvp is default. You might have some, but I bet the ones when rp was default were better, more treasured memories.

  I suppose you may be right, but I have found most of my memories that I treasure were not ones regarding fighting, but that is going off-topic. Nonetheless due to PvP default, I believe it has changed the server for the better. I'm sure quite a few people would be willing to RP fight if you ask, there may be some who don't, however they probably aren't too common.

My group of friends, and myself since joining back close to a month ago now have encountered more the the pvp type people, than rp. In fact if you take events that were rp fights out of it, then pvp fights happen about 4-1. That's just what the group of close to 15 of us noticed anyway. Though most of them have since left too. Mostly cause trolling, but 2 left cause the pvp default rule. Though I'm getting off topic too now lol.

I was at the brink of leaving the server just before the PvP default change, and that very change made me stay. I was so tired of OOC bickering, BRs, PG, and general bull ****, not to mention the wasting of hours on these long fights, that I usually would just give up as soon as I entered a fight, and just let the opponent win. All these problems for me, have evaporated as we've turned back to our roots; PvP. My experience on Lotc is now just way better, and I feel it's better for the community as well, which at the time was very fractured and unfriendly. This is why I support PvP- over Rp fights. It also makes the server more attractive, meaning a bigger player base.

RP with rolls removes a lot of the creativity in RP combat, which is its most attractive quality. As someone who prefers RP fighting, I only like to use rolls when I do something that I can't adequately judge my character's abilities on (that being things that are pure luck). If would rather PVP fight than RP fight without the creative means of an RP fight. PVP default is preferred by the majority of the community, and has proven to be a better system pretty much unarguably. We are a server based around RP and MC mechanics, there isn't an issue with making MC mechanics default. It fits our server, and has been proved to be the best.

I would advise you to back and read the huge threads where all this had been talked before and look at the good and bad points PVP default solves a lot of issues and gets it done fast if you dont feel like doing a 30 minute long RP fight but even with pvp as default alot of people still Rp fight instead of pvp but it doesnt mean that RP should be default with all the issue it had back when it was in place

What reason is that? I do not know the reason it's set to default on a rp server. If you mean cause people rage with pg during rp fights, then that's not a good solution. Pvp should only be turned to if both sides are whining alot, and a mod has to come break it up.

 

What's the alternative? We tried Emote Fighting for a year, and the server tore itself up in that time. You should only ever Emote Fight with someone you're actually OOCly collaborating with. That isn't the case, making emote fighting a poor default. The default method of fighting has to be one where the winner is out of the player's hands.

 

Also, remember that the default method of combat was using Minecraft PvP in Aegis and early Asulon, the server's first two maps and its heyday.

PVP default so I don't spend 30 minutes having a text fight with edgies. And by text fight, I mean OOC.

One thing I don't think I elaborated well in my previous comment (I was sleepy, shhhh) is that PVP default creates an incentive for those who prefer RP fighting to do so in a more reasonable manner. It is a huge deterrent for powergaming. I don't know if most of you remember this, but in the few months of Asulon just before RP combat became default, the vast majority (probably over 90%) of combat was fought in RP rather than PVP. That was because people powergamed less, because if you were to powergame and garner a reputation for such, you could simply be clicked to death. PVP default is a win for people who prefer RP fighting and PVP fighting.

I see that this community was built around pvp for the fighting, with rp options. So I now understand why there is such a strong love for pvp here. I guess I'm just an old rp purest, but most the point a lot of you bring up don't make sense to me this being an rp server. The server should relabel itself as an rp/pvp server. That way it gives a truer vibe of what it is. It's not a bad thing the server is that way, don't take what I'm saying as dissing the server. It's just not a pure rp server is all, and should be labeled as such. 

 

Also for those of you who say it makes fights go back faster, and stops pg. I say this. If you were into rp fully you wouldn't see a long rp fight as a chore. You would see it as a way to fully show your rp creativity. Pg also wouldn't happen as much as it does in said fights if the community was built around rp fully. Here is why. The vet players would be doing things like training the newer players how to fight in rp. They would be in rp showing them what they can, and can't be doing. There would be alot more teaching going on. Something I really only see from the mages on this server. Imagine if all aspects of the server did these sorts of things. Everyone's rp would become better. That is a fact. When good vets teach how to do things, then everyone gets better. But the server would have to go through a big change, that I know most of you wouldn't want to do. The reason being most of you are only casual rpers. And that's fine. There is nothing wrong with that. This server was built for that sorta crowd. Which tells me this might not be the best place for me. Hell with the younger age range minecraft servers normally carry, I am slowly realizing I won't find the style rp crowd I want here. Which sucks cause as a game this is the best option for rp, cause it gives room for the most options in creativity. MMO's don't normally have entire servers who are only for rpers, so most of the crowd you get isn't there for rp. So you end up with the same problem sort of. Anyway sorry for going so off topic in this post. Glad to hear from everyone who posted.

The server is RP-RPG

It's Role Play/Role Playing Game. While being a bit of an MMO with the amount of people that play it.

Few think of RP fighting as a chore. It becomes a chore when people start bitching about power gaming and meta gaming and what not, that's when PVP becomes viable. And some people have just lost hope in RP due to some of the RP'rs they've played with, and would rather not bother with a RP fight, unless it's one that's suppose dto be nonlethal, which sadly, is rare.

RP fights are always either won by the guy who can make the fanciest, most bullshit emotes or the guy that can keep arguing so long the others just let him win. It's very rare to have a fair RP fight.

I think the best fall-back solution when two players can't decide on PVP or RP would be a /roll plugin that takes account of the players race, armor, current weapon and possibly age. This way, players could still emote but the damage dealt is not argued about.

 

Yes, with /roll a child could manage to defeat a full grown Orc but so what - it's unlikely and could make for one heck of a tale to re-tell.

I had the same thought! Mechanics are good, but make them fun!. Do A D&D-Esque combat system that takes everything into ac count (Stat changes based on race) I'd /adore/ this. PVP just makes things unfun for me, personally.
