Plug-In Previews

 Share

Recommended Posts

This is something that would both assist the Tech-Team and the Media-Team, generating more things for them to do whilst satisfying the playerbase's questions through videos that would display what the plug-in at-hand is capable of doing and what it actually does. A prime example would be the magic plug-in -- it's not finished, but why not make a preview? It would both reassure the community that a magic plug-in is both viable and stable and advertise the server's features if the Media-Team uploaded these videos to Youtube.

Thoughts?

Maybe a coding livestream could work. :3

I like those, wouldn't mind doing a few.

What would constitute a preview? Like, showing off one specific spell from the magic plugin sort of thing?

A video can provide a small preview on how the magic-plugin works and how a couple spells will look like, and some information on the features the plugin provides like server stability and so-forth. Smaller videos for single spells or examples of what the magic-plugin is capable of doing are possible.

People like me are usually too preoccupied during the day to watch livestreams- I really would enjoy a video to watch at my convenience, especially one that explains plugins to me in a fun way..

Only if these previews aren't used against the tech. Continue to let them do their thang and not have us berate them with our opinions of their work. In other words I'd like to see these pre-views be used as a chance to be grateful instead of picky and dramatic. Will that happen? I am not sure.

I dun get why we have to be so veiled. One tech livestream someone asked to show the magic plugin so Telanir clicks on the folder for it for five seconds.

I tried to record it so I could submit it tall the funny clips shows, but it didn't work.

Have the techies make a few media team members to do this. Give them access to the test server and access to the plugins they are previewing. Gives the media team things to do and the previews some want.

A good idea. I would worry about the notion that spending time previewing plugins detracts from the time allocated to actually writing them. I think I've mentioned this concern before, and also the even larger worry about the expectations that might arise from providing these previews. However, with the proper time planning and us not getting too ambitious in our previews, I can see this idea working out rather nicely for the community.

I sincerely doubt you'd get a preview of the Magic Plugin, though ;)

Please, LET THE MT DO IT. They aren't doing anything at the moment, and this could work gloriously for something for them to do. Just select a few on a case-by-case basis, let them into the dev server and give them access to the plugin to preview. It would give them something to do and save the techies time.

Well the MT has a lot of awesome promotional stuff they can do to bring some lifeblood into the server. However, that's not my call to make, but rather that of the talented fellows in purple. But... sure :D. They can be on the dev server to test my plugins if they're also willing to provide any bugs they find as well; that shouldn't be too much additional work and it's pretty important.

Great idea. If the team leads/members are willing to work together, this might just work.

Moved to the Great Library. It shall be sorted into appropriate category shortly.
