Rp Default Or Pvp Benefits For Dread Knights

There's too many groups that need benefits to be their own 'little antagonist.'

After having to deal with clicky-click summony-summony Harbringers for ages, I totally agree. :c

Well... Orcs and Golems should get benefits too.

And so should like... half the races.

Or everyone can just be on a fair playing field :V

Golems already have benefits.

..Why not just give them diamond armor and only give certain players (DKs) permissions to use them, like a banned item kind of thing but more specifically done.

PvP-default exclusions aren't gonna happen. We tried it with mages and it had multiple issues: ulterior motive for getting/using magic, frustrating RP-default scenarios (RP-default is inherently flawed regardless of what kind of character you role-play), players simply bringing groups large enough to PvP default anyway - to name a few.

Until (if ever) we get a magic, race or professions plugin (or something along those lines), mechnical benefits aren't gonna happen, simply because we can't do it without a plugin. And a plugin has to account for all special traits of pretty much everyone, so don't pit your hopes on that too soon *cough* Nexus *cough*.

By all means petition all you like, lol.

In the mean time, don't forget PvP default simply means if you and your opponent disagree on which method of combat you use, you use PvP. You are still welcome to and encouraged to seek out RP fights! But some people will want to PvP, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just like RP fighting, it's personal preference.

Was simply pointing out that this thread is about Dread Knight's and not other races/groups when I asked you to stay on topic, lol.

About the mage example, and the ulterior motive for learning magic, I see a rather large difference between that and Dread Knights, as only the Dread Lord can turn people into them, and he is very strict about it. Not to mention that giving up your flesh, freedom, mortality and soul is a wee bit different then learning to throw a fireball out of your hands.

There are plenty of ways to give certain PVP benefits in vanilla. Enchanted armour, resetting a player's heart amount, etc. But yeah, I get what you mean by that.

And yeah, I know. I RP fight with people who are willing, it just ain't fun for anyone (at least, I don't think so) when a giant metal structure wanders into town to make some RP, and is spammed with clicky-clicky's and all of the RP is instantly over.

EDIT:

There's too many groups that need benefits to be their own 'little antagonist.'

Isn't that the entire point of Dread Knights..?

I believe at one point there was a plan for golems not to require armor or food (they had armour automatically and their food didn't decay), but they had various debuffs in other areas. They wouldn't have been able to sprint, for example, which means the main PvP tactic doesn't work for them. I don't know if this is still planned but I'd imagine DKs would get the same buff/debuffs.

I'd honestly be fine if Dreadknights and Wraiths would be allowed to auto-armor because of their physical attributes.

While I doubt it's ever come up, DKs and Golems should be able to autoarmour. They can't exactly take their body off. I'll talk to Viper see if I can get an autoarmouring rule clarification up, seeing as it comes up a lot nowadays.

As for the enchanted armour idea, you're all forgetting one thing.

You drop it when you die. And people can pick it up.

Exclusions exist to make things spicy.

A DK that can be taken down by one man will strike fear into no one, RP-Wise. A DK In gear that would require three people to time their attacks would be a bit of a story to tell. Same with Wraiths, and Golems(As well as any other major magical creature). It's in the interest of fairness for such a thing to occur. PVP Default took away our, and their means of roleplay. Without RP-Fighting, every single thing the characters do is implied. The least that could be done is give back a taste of it, if not only to aid in providing role play once more.

A counter-argument to this could be that all in the magical creatures/mages catagory are "Power-Hungry", or get some sort've inane high from being powerful. Which is obstesibly false, as the majority of those  who roleplay such things have never shared any such connentation. Moreso those who attack the DK/Wraith/Golem wish for it. To have a title: "<inser creture here> Hunter.". It is an odd mixup, which I find more and more repeated.

To be short, if mages are getting a magic plugin. Why can't some villain groups get the ability to do something, instead of getting gangr***ped by random PVPers, day after day? Less and less incentive is given to attempt to become such a thing through roleplay, and it does take away a bit of the magic.

I think everyone should choose to roll characters that they can be content with role-playing within reason and within the current game mechanics that are made available to every player from the start, rather than writing lore, investing time, gathering approvals and empowering their monstrosities with god-like powers and then expecting to receive custom-made plug-ins or some sort of advantage that the majority of the player-base doesn't have and that many of us have been waiting for years to get just a scrap of and will likely never see.

No, none of you deserve anything special. Role-play, work around it and figure it out with what you've got like the rest of us. And if you can't be content with what you've got, don't role-play it. If our staff is going to focus on things for the server, let it be things that benefit the majority of the player-base, not a handful of cliques and snowflakes.

We all just need to enjoy what we've got. Getting unfairly clicked to death 90% of the time is just part of being a villain. If that's fun for the monster hunters, so be it. If role-playing the combat is fun for them, welcome that as well. Don't get hung up on realisms and technicalities, just roll with the punches and hope that at least someone, somewhere was enjoying themselves while it lasted.

Ned Lud, Lloyd George and Liberals be damned, the welfare state has encouraged their idea of exclusions and special treatment. If this goes ahead, where man forgoes the challenge of starting from the Tabula Rasa, can I request a free horse and a Punch V bow since my character is a Mongoloid horde horse-archer. :3
