Why Can't You Play As A Child Anymore?

Could you not just timeskip to ten? That, or have the parent RP the child as well. Doesn't need a separate player.

Exactly.

Literately every reason I have seen presented in this thread is personal bias or dislike of child RP.

I don't usually like bandit RP, but we aren't doing crap about that.

I love child RP, but you don't. So if you can have your banditry, I can have my child RP.

I have yet to see a reason as for why child RP is no longer allowed that is not personal bias.

Well, as for a proper answer to the original post's question, the best I can come up with is that, with the new skills plugin, each persona will have their own leveling, and a small child wouldn't realistically be able to become, say, a master blacksmith, thus they've removed the option to play such without, I assume, having a GM set it for you. Mind you, I don't believe this is a ban on child roleplay, simply another restrictive hoop one must jump through.

How about people mind their own business and let people RP however they like. I don't like bandit RP, but I wouldn't disallow it, because how is that fair? It's perfectly fine to let someone know that they are pestering you.

In my opinion, young children have never made roleplay more interesting. They're good for kidnapping and blackmail and that's about it. A kid under 10 can't contribute to a fight, a discussion, a quest, a business... Anything. They're useless. They're little more than objects that act cute. I've met some people who did a great job roleplaying children, but almost all sound and act the same.

And that is a reason to disallow it, because?

Yeah, I edited, but anyway. The answer is that if I don't like your RP, as another player, I should have the right to shut it down, even if it is non-intrusive and not harmful by any stretch of the word. I think part of the other problem is that people just have no skill when it comes to RP'ing WITH children.

Maybe the dozens upon dozens of orphaned child characters is stale, old, and basically a pain in the ass to see one every other day. But my character, Dahnee'Yar (formerly Daniella) is pregnant with twin orcs. When she has those kids i have to wait like 2 and a half months or time skip to have the people I had lined up to play them actually play them? Nonsense. Utter, complete, bs and nonsense.

Look kids, if you want to play children just set your prefix to something like [actually 3 years old] or whatever and disable automatic aging.

Some people like RPing family and stuff.

After some thinking, I've changed my opinion.

Although children don't supply in-depth roleplay, they are entertaining for family roleplayers and allows a player to grow their character from birth. Their roleplay doesn't hurt anybody. Orphan cliches are annoying, so if somebody is to roleplay a child under ten I would say they need a caretaker. Other than the rampant cliches, I can't think of a single legitimate reason for young children to be removed from the game.

Staff, perhaps you should rethink your decision about this. I support the age limit of 1000 (which I have seen broken in the past and never said anything about it because drama and OOC anger), but playing children from early age allows more in-depth and real back-stories.

I disagree, in a friendly way mind you, that children don't provide in-depth roleplay. It's just the typical conversation subjects and plot devices don't work with children. Just try finding a child  that isn't played by a player that is only interested in 'silly' child RP. Then, try different subjects besides violence or politics. Sharing stories, providing impromptu education or training, and providing discipline are all legitimate and in-depth RP. Remember, just because big words aren't used in dialogue doesn't mean that feelings and ideas shared by children aren't in-depth. Plus, to consider your RP /truly/ an in-depth RP, you basically have to include mundane, day-to-day RP with all aspects of the world. That includes gripping about getting mud IN your boots, sleeping, noting that the weather is nice, and talking with children.

In-depth Rp is a LOT more than playing a character that can talk about adult subjects. :P

EDIT: Not saying that that's all you talk about, violence and politics. Just popular subjects in LOTC is all.
