Wait, cities are prebuilt? Really? Man... :/

No, they are each approximately 30% built. This is to allow for player-led construction activity, but also to allow nations to regulate the direction in which builds will proceed and to have an existing attractive foundation for their capitol.

Actually, this idea seems interesting to me... Can we seriously consider this as a legitimate option?

I'm honestly not sure why staff would be by default superior leaders to the existing nation leaders. I have no greater trust in a staff member to fulfill nation leading activities than I do any other player. We are all human, and susceptible to the same set of faults. Further, staff members are presently heavily advised against from being chosen from amongst nation leadership, and advised against entering nation leadership once in their position. This is due to a history of staff biases and abuses stemming from national affiliations, and is a policy that is well-implemented due to past events.

The server I played actively on before LotC had staff-run nations. I was banned from that server, not for breaking any rules, but because I made it more difficult for the nation leader because I acted as a voice for grievances about his domestic policies. The potential for abuse created by staff+nation leader leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

It doesn't have to be The Lore Masters. I thought it would be fun opportunity, and open up RP for you. Could be other staff

Open RP for whom? Staff members?

Other than the idea that staff members hold their positions in an effort to improve RP for the community, running a nation is very tiresome work. Combine the workload of nation leading with staffing a server, and you'll end up with new clients for my cousin Larry the cocaine dealer.

A few people on the forum have made a very good point about the state of warclaims and why people often get so serious when wars are going on rather than having fun; losing land. Now, to combat this, I propose that any warclaim which might result in a loss of land / change of land ownership would need, as Shiftnative proposes, consent from the owners of both regions beforehand. (To an extent, obviously captured mid-warfront fortresses would be transfered.) These would be the more noteworthy wars, where two powerful forces think they can form an empire by defeating the other.

Now, onto my main idea; 'warclaims' without any kind of change of land ownership do not require a formal war-claim at all, but in fact happen dynamically on the server, with the declarations of war occuring in RP, benefiting people during war because there is no bickering about land loss, but war still happens with consequences. This would also cut out the fact that people often just log in for battles and that's it, because they could start dynamically; Two opposing enemy patrols meet in the field and call for reinforcements? Cool,, battle incoming.

Now I'm going to stop writing, because this forum is slow as sin and i can't deal with it anymore.

With this region claiming plugin, a settlement will lose it's protection if it loses the required amount of players protecting it - so, if absolutely necessary consider the use of more clever and strategic roleplay options like the following,

Still want to know how the staff plans to combat the abuse, seeing as i got three slots for soulstone, only one of them is actually useful the other two are for travel and bound to places i never go to anyways. So simply make it so you can just protect one plot per player since he is supposed to live there or someone might have better use for it. Otherwise the "Ghost town clean up crew" gonna have a bad time.

But there is still the different amount of characters each player has. And each of those characters could use different numbers of soulstones, or both use the same one. People would only be able to use one character otherwise the orcs would die D:

If people use orcs as alts then that is THEIR choice and then the race is dormant anyways.. There are those running about with 4-5 character lol? 1 or 2 should be enough for a lot of reasons, but hey that's just my opinion of course. -Misspessimist

Can't help but feel encouraging raiding a settlement to inactivity isn't going to end happily. Players don't change nation, they outright leave.

If 4.0 turns into a PVP factions/MMO, you can guarantee that I will be gone.

Everybody says that will happen with every change. It never does. Over-dramatizing stuff is this server's forte.

What if only staff members could be top leaders who handled warfare? What if only they could rule? That way, people don't make OOC reasoned war claims, and wars don't start over arguments, items and such.

What if only Lore Masters could only be leaders, then they could make war claims that actually makes sense in accordance to lore and race tradition?

This would prevent things such as the following (which has happened): War thirsty elves, when elves (as a whole) were originally supposed to be peaceful and on good terms with other nations.

How does that sound?

we discontinued that as a thing in aegis.

Warmongering bullies are going to harass players off their land regardless of whether there's a population requirement or not. This requirement at least formalizes land ownership so that you don't have one player with ten alts on one account trying to squat ten plots of land indefinitely. If you have one account, you throw your stone into one pot, at least I hope that's how I'm interpreting things. Players need to put more thought into how many alts they run and squat with and how it effects the server and the community.

The map's coming along nicely.

As far as war approval goes, I doubt we'll ever win that battle. As much as I'd love to see reasonable and fluid war-fighting without the need for consent, it is the war-fighters themselves that have ruined war for everyone. We can blame the elves and the tree-huggers all we want, but the warriors and their kings are equally at fault, always biting off more than they can chew, always conquering more than they can manage, greedy, self-righteous, uncooperative, rude. Pots calling kettles black. We have a community to maintain here and not everyone has the same definition of fun. Warmongers were given an opportunity and they failed. Now it's the leaderships' decision to make. We change some things around, roll the die and see what happens.

In my opinion, warclaims should be allowed to stay and wars should be encouraged to increase action and excitement on the server. But, there should be a legitimate reason for war, like others have said before. War should be the last resort, first comes many raids, threatening rp from the 2 opponents, and a build up that will leave it to devastation. Overall I am very excited for the new lore, plugins, regions, and other rp features coming in 4.0. Keep up the good work, LoTc!

Cyndikate is dramatizing things to the max, but the crap that has been going on over the last two-three months has bumf**ked people who actually want to roleplay their characters (Dread-Knights, Golems, Mages, etc) and made them succumb to CLICK CLICK CLICK "YOU HAVE DIED."  That is about as complex as Simon.
