The Cult of Orgon

"Mubaramishi, gith prasogat. Mubaramishi, gith kul Orgonob."

The cult of Orgon is a sect of shamanism devoted to the worship and veneration of Orgon, the spirit of disease, pestilence and failure. Those who would join this cult are those who would seek to bring these curses down upon the enemies of the orcs and their spirits. Orgon's followers seek to spread his influence on this realm through the performance of the ghastly rituals revealed through his visions. The cult calls down his power, which manifests itself as a strange carnivorous fungus, through sacrifices and the general spread of decay and pestilence. It's primarily a witch doctor cult, though one needn't be a witch doctor, or even a shaman, to join.

Original Revelation

The cult of Orgon is not an entirely new following, but was in fact practiced by witch doctors in ancient times. It was most recently revealed to Grool'Gorkil by a vision he had on a spirit walk. In this vision, Grool saw a flock of vultures eating a carcass. One of these vultures revealed himself to be Orgon, and showed the shaman an image of orcs wearing masks and performing barbaric rituals around a shrine to the spirit. It was after this vision that Grool sought out his trusted former student, Malog'Yar, whom he knew to have had a connection with Orgon. Malog readily joined the cult, and assisted in its founding. After recruiting Thurak and Zabbu to their cause, they gathered in the smoke hut for further guidance from their master. They were shown a vision of masked shamans chanting and performing a bizarre dance around a mound of mycelium. A human lay helplessly tied up on the mound, squirming in vain.

During the ritual, one of the shamans emptied some green slime onto the mound, and chanted as  buzzing was heard in the distance. The victim's struggling intensified as a swarm of insects flew in, and completely engulfed the offering. The man's pitiful cries were drowned out by the buzzing of the innumerable swarm. When the insects cleared, nothing was left of the human. Only a patch of newly grown mushrooms remained in his place, and the mycelium around the shrine had spread. Leaving their trance, the four new cultists knew what they must do. They built a shrine to Orgon  on a mound of mycelium, and brought their first sacrifice to it. After the offering had been completed, they received a new vision of more masked shamans worshiping at a great temple surrounded by fungus. Their goal had become clear. Orgon's temple must be rebuilt.

Practices

Immersion: New members of the Cult of Orgon are immersed in a sort of baptismal pool known as a cesspit. The cesspits are filled with a viscous amalgam of slime and fungus, which is summoned from Orgon's realm by his shamans. Upon his immersion, the new devotee swears his allegiance to Orgon in the following chant: "Orgon! Durub langatob agh shatazob! Kulizg lab! Maklogizish bashkaumlab thrakat murtag agh hrizg armaukukuz Krugob!"  ((Translation: "Orgon! Ruler of disease and pestilence! I am yours! Make me your tool to bring plague and suffering to all the enemies of Krug!"))

Feeding: The primary ritual of the cult of Orgon is the feeding ritual. A sacrifice is brought to a shrine of Orgon, which is to be built on a mycelium mound. The ritual calls upon Orgon to send a swarm of insects which then cover the victim as he/she is devoured by the carnivorous fungus. This causes the mycelium, the physical manifestation of Orgon's influence, to spread. The appropriate chant for this ritual is relatively simple, and goes as follows: "Orgon! Marr Fli!" ((Translation: "Orgon! Accept this sacrifice!"))

Hexes: This is not a ritual as much as it is a general practice. As the Cult of Orgon is lead by witch doctors, and reveres the Immortal spirit of disease, shamanistic hexes are heavily encouraged. The members of the cult are to exercise great skill in the spread of Orgon's will by means of curses, harmful elixirs, poisons and voodoo.

The Great Truth: As with hexes, this is not a ritual. It is a statement to which the members of the Cult of Orgon adhere, and which they repeat at rituals. It goes as follows: "Mubaramishi, gith prasogat. Mubaramishi, gith kul Orgonob." ((Translation: "In the end, everything decays. In the end, everything belongs to Orgon."))

The Shrine of Orgon

The above image is an example of a shrine to Orgon. They are always built atop a mound of mycelium, which facilitates the growth of the carnivorous fungus which spreads from their frightful rituals. This particular shrine has a small cesspit dug at the base of the mound (lower-right), though a cesspit and a mound do not always need to be immediately beside each other. Orgon's totems are built out of materials that communicate a sense of decay (Rotting wood, mossy/cracked stone, soul sand etc.). They do not necessarily need to look like this specific totem, as long as the appropriate materials are used.

((A change has been made. A "slogan" of sorts was added near the top, and another practice was added to the "Practices" section.))

A nomad rides across the blighted wastelands on the long hunt, drawn by the spirits. "Vulture have to eat, same as worm." he mutters. The journey is long, but the rider is patient. In the end, all things belong to Orgon.

(I'll be returning soon with a nomad shaman. Helping out with 4.0 right now, but this looks interesting.)

Orgon watches over his soon-to-be disciple expectantly, and compels him to ride to his foetid flock.

((Excellent. Always like to here about orcs coming back.))

[[ I personally offer my assistance as an ET if the cult wishes to provide religious events that hold greater effect. This looks interesting. ]]

((Thanks. That's very appreciated. I'd like to try to get big plague/infestation events or something like that at some point. I'm very glad to see all the interest this stuff is getting.))
