A Darker Day

*Orders are barked through the many hallways of the Teutonic Keep calling for all members to report to the Hall of Heroes before the Hochmeister's throne. Mirtok waits paitently from his elevated step as the Sariants file into ranks infront of him. As the last foot falls into place, he takes off his winged helm and tucks it under his arm before speaking . . .

"Brothers and Sisters of the Teutonic Order, it is with a heavy heart that I deliver this news. It seems that the Empire has forsaken us and is more than likely if not has been already plotting our demise. After the incident where the traitor Lion unlawfully enacted his hunt and slaughter upon the Golden Lance, the word reached the ears of the Oren leaders as tales of banditry and slaughter upon the citizens of Oren itself. I cannot say with exact certainty that these reports are not true, I can only hope that such is a falsity brought about by our long begrudged enemies. I know not if it were impersonators that have been reported cropping up or what have you, but any report of hostility actively ordered by the Order's leadership against Oren is false. Those of our ranks that had participated in these heinous acts have already been imprisoned and will likely face execution just as Lion does now. These prisoners have been stripped of their Cross and no longer represent the Teutonic Order, they are now Brothers of the past, give them no sympathy.

We are servants of the Imperium, just as we are servants of Hanseti and the Order itself. Each of us is life bound to the venerable Godfrey Horen and honor bound to those who are subjects of his blessing. Our very purpose- since our own founding centuries ago- is to protect and progress the Human race and its rightful nation. This was a purpose expanded and strengthened with the coming of the First Imperium and this is a purpose that will continue until the fall of the final Empire. Our sister nation of Oren and the many brother organizations in Oren hate us. The Church we give our eternal devotion to will likely abandon and condemn us. The peaceful age we had hoped to create will burn in the wake of the Empires wrath; And yet, through it all, we must remember what is truly important; Fight in name of the Emperor and you will earn your honorable death. Give your loyalty to the Order and you will earn your salvation.

All that we can do now is pray that the Holy Oren Empire in all its glory will see that we mean no harm to them. Pray that the corruption that hath taken over our Brothers in this incident will be vanquished by the grace of the Creator and that one day they may find peace in their death. Pray that the revered Creator will turn his gaze upon us for but a moment and give us the strength to endure what may come. It will truly be a sad day when the Empire decides to do away with the Teutonic Order, the eternally loyal subjects of the Emperor and Humankind.

As of right now, all Good Faith operations taking place in the kingdoms of Man will be suspended. Our mission to bring a helping and friendly hand in aid to our fellow Humans will have to wait until they are once again ready to accept it.

Go now Brothers and Sisters, mourn the loss of our fellow Sariants that were taken by this sudden madness but also nourish a hate for the very same. Needless violence, selfishness and abuse will never be allowed to take root in this Order and any of you who fall victim to such plights will receive the brunt of a fury so powerful you'd have wished you never existed at all.

Dismissed."

Thinks in his mind as he stands in line

"God... Lion a OrdenMarshel gettin' executed? Serves him right... and all the others... slaughterin' our friends like that..."

Returns to his quarters to pray to the Creator for their sins to be forgiven.

"And what of the Sariants' swords stained with the blood of those most holy warriors? Is not this Lion himself a DeNurem? The members of this so-called order should take their disenfranchisement as a blessing and reincorporate into Oren to more rightfully serve he-who-Godfrey-named. To do otherwise would be a crime against the Imperium, and against the welfare of the human race."

*Leopold speaks to the Sariants gathered in the dining hall-

"Comrades, we have been through worse than this. Most of you are completely new to the Order, or had relatives in it years ago, but I have more or less spent most of my life in it. The Order has been through many wars, persecutions, and exiles, and it always eventually reforms due to loyal members keeping their oath, and keeping our sacred beliefs alive. Allow the corruption and loss of Lion and the other guilty Sariants to steel your resolve to keep our Order strong. They may be traitors, but they were once loyal servants of the Imperium like us. Mourn for them. We will get through this, just as we always have and always will."

*Jarvik salutes the Hochmeister as he is dismissed, put off by the actions committed by his fellows. "Justice is done" he mutters to himself as he makes his way back to his room for a mug of mead and an objective to complete.

*Mirtok departs after delivering his words to the Order members to a private room where several of his more experienced men wait. They all salute upon his entrance before one of them speaks . . .

"What are we to do with the traitors?"

*Mirtok responds grimly . . .

"Prep them for execution, this corruption must be silenced immediately lest more of it spreads to the initiate members."

"What of Lion, Hochmeister?"

"He may be my brother but in the Order blood relation earns you little in terms of protection from justice. He struck a very deep wound to the Order, he will pay for his crime against his brothers and against the Imperium. Even though we have sought to join with the Empire, we have been met with total rejection, that fact does not change our loyalties and we will make this horrid incident right again."

*Nods to his brother's words and mumbles "Beliae doe Orden."*

"They shall be remembered as they were, not as they became in my heart. But their mistakes shall remain in mind."

Heidmark listens to the Hochmeister as he speaks, wrinkling his nose as he usually does when he hears some news or another that brings a mournful thought to his mind. With a regular salute he'd depart from the the throne room, shaking his head.

"Each brother is one to me, one of Hansetian blood and the blood of our very Hochmeister. Though he has decided his own fate, one that was not fit for the motherland of Hansetia. Perhaps this is what was due, but he will not be forgotten. Both in remembrance and to remember what it means to be a true Sariant."

A sad day indeed, Hochmeister. From here we can all learn a lesson, one in which we can move forward from and better ourselves from. I will improve my performance as a soldier, a member of the Order, and as a follower of the angel Celestia and the Creator. I hope my fellow sariants will do the same.

Within the rows of Sariants, the single Sariant Knight nods her head solemnly and regretfully as she thinks back on the eve that she had to assist in throwing one of her own brothers into the dungeon. She gnaws on the inside of her cheek as she trudges through the stone halls; she was the one who had to face the ire of the Hochmeister and expose Lion's actions.

"It was my duty." She murmurs sternly to herself in an attempt of reassurance, yet she releases a rueful sigh as she reaches of the door handle of her room. Glancing back toward Berendan and Darion's room, she nods once more and retreats inside. "Soea brauechen beu leekkua ue…" Sliding into her chair as she speaks, she strums her fingers along her wooden desk.

"I can't linger on this." She declares softly, reaching for a sheet of paper and a quill. Squinting in the low candlelight as the quill etches a short note across the parchment, her expression melts into a gentle smile. Satisfied with her message, she whirls out of the chair and trots across the hall to her brothers' room. She simply slides it through the crease of the door, knowing the recipient is sound asleep and will eventually read it...

"Kags uened soea, u peti solv."

Edric quickly salutes the Hochmeister before turning away and dispersing with the rest of his brothers as they are dismissed. He slowly makes his way to the dinning hall, plopping himself down in a chair. Battered by a day of work and now this meeting, he lets out a disgruntled sigh, slipping a flask from his bag.

"Come on everyone... use your thinker boxes."

He takes a hasty swig from his flask before popping the top back on, setting it on the table.

"I do not know where this all came from... but I agree with the Hochmeister's judgment, we all need to think about what we are doing here. The Hochmeister needs not just simple minded men willing to wear and wield steel for this order but men who can also keep a good and rightful mind about themselves!"

He whips his head back and raises his voice to a yell, though it sounds strained and tired. "Keep your wits about you everyone! It is rather simple! Making good choices is not a hard thing to do..."

The scout brudder lets out a single, amused snort before pushing himself up from his seat, stiff joints cracking loudly, crying out after a day of hard work. "This is enough... I am off for my bed."

With that he snatches  up his flask and hobbles away to his room.
