Item Renaming

Hello Uncertain Gms,

Now how come some gms can rename items and others cannot? Donation perms to rename items are for people that pay enough to not have to deal with gms. When I ask for an item to be renamed, I am not asking for some stupid 'Flaming Sword of God' I am asking for an item to be renamed to better my rp.

You know what is fun? Not having to go into LOOC to describe an item. No events happen, so even if I wanted a named item I cannot get it. Gms need to give a clear answer why they can and/or cannot do certain things.

In stern words,

Dtrik

P.S. The current gms have little purpose besides settling disputs between people and controlling non functioning groups like the Event Team and Media Team.

I'll agree to that on some level, I do believe there is a pretty hindering disconnect between GM to GM, and the GMs to the Admins. There doesn't appear to be a clear set of rules for them to follow, one GM can do this while another doesn't know if they can and doesn't seem to be able to get the answer when they claim to ask in their chats.

It's /NOT/ good if you require items to renamed in order to RP and describing things is what RP is. You describe items, actions, people, etc. There's not a need for stuff to be renamed outside of shortening RP.

I should not have to break rp to describe an item in looc. Every time I use looc I feel that my immersion disrupts more and more. And it is not like I am needing every item I want to have renamed.

Well arent you a pocket full of sunshine today!

GMs aren't there to rename items for you. Even us donators only get to use that perk once every 24 hours or so. If some of them aren't doing that for you and others are, I agree thats a breakdown in communication since none of them should be. Not even I can add descriptions to my items, much as I'd like to with my carpal tunnel making retyping the same thing out a pain.

Describing items is part of roleplay. Naming them is just for fun.

It however is not detrimental to roleplay to have items that are named in the first place. It actually adds to the server having these "unique" items. Example: Acquiring a named sword after combat adds quite a bit more roleplay and is more valued then simply getting another iron sword. Not saying the GM's should be mass producing named items left and right, more important things to be done I imagine. However the lack of consistency between GM's is quite irksome and leads to no true understanding of what actually can be done by the GM's.

The little details here and there are worth quite a bit.

Actually, you don't have to! Here, I'll give you an example of what I do with Alexandros:

The Dread Knight lets Mortal's Bane, a massive flail with a spiked head, larger than an Orc's, smash into the ground. The chain, made of black iron, clinks as he stomps forward, lazily dragging the massive head on the ground, the spikes scraping the cement.

See, in an emote, you can describe what your item looks like without having to go into OOC. It's just like RPing what your character is physically doing, except doing so for your weapons.

Plus, I do know where you are coming from with wanting to rename items. I do enjoy having a sword that I RPed to get have a special name, so I can say "This is mine, I made this special, and it is not some other sword to me".

Is there any way that the tech team could code in an item naming center?  Then GMs can just check the que and approve names.  No inappropriate names, no need for long back and forths, they can be threaded in with modreqs and people who troll can have their ability to request names revoked for wasting too much time.

As a blacksmith, It added to my role-play greatly to have items renamed. Before the professions plugin, people came to me in anthos to get a unique sword or ring. I was given no perks to it no matter the role-play behind it, but I till had that bit of history behind the weapon that really made it worth all the work. I had a similar problem to this in the fringe on the same subject. I was told by a gm to go to an ET or VIP to get stuff renamed. It really made me quite frustrated since I had just gone through hours of role-play to make the legion multiple sets of Dwarf style armor.

I simply enjoy having items named. It's very good to help immerse oneself. If this is the reason (You don't need to have it done, therefore it simply shouldn't be done!), I simply think it's a silly reason.

Renaming modreqs are literally the easiest modreqs.

/si rename [name]

Done.

This should be handled in the same way that repairing is - it should require X material that the item is made of in order to rename it, as well as a certain level in the profession it belongs to. It could perhaps be done with the old anvil GUI.

Eg. Bow takes some wood to rename and Adequate Woodworker, Iron swords would take some iron ingots and Adequate Blacksmith to rename.

That's how I think it should be done. It would give some added business opportunities and a value to professions.

At first I was like eh..... but I thought more on it and I think it could really work.  RPly the name could be etched on certain items or weapons in some way of engraving, and the way you get those engravings?  The proper craftsman of course!
