Your View: Ipb Skin Changes Pt.2

Hi guys,

 

Here are the current design mockup for the site and we were wanting to know what you think of it so far and what you want changed. Try and link examples and such to better explain your point so at long last here they are. The second version has the potential of having "sticky" navigation, where it sticks to the top of the browser window similar to Facebook - allowing convenient navigation regardless of how far you have scrolled on the page.

 

 

P.S this is very early days into making the skins lots will change

That one looks a little too... default forum for my taste. Not much is going on with it. I don't really have an opinion until I see a more completed project.

I would like to see some more..movement on the site. Like animated buttons/banners etc. Maybe a slidedown menu somewhere.  Stuff like that, makes the server look more fresh and what not! Ohh and a neat backround for it all too!

I found a website for a mc server and i quite like the design so maybe you could make our website somewhat similar, here is the link. Its in another language so if your internet browser is able to translate it then you'll be able to navigate it much easier.

Also as Adam said above... they essentially have their wiki incorporated into their website. Why can't we do that?

I like it. Looks a lot more professional, thus far, and that's really something any webmaster should thrive for; to make their site look... proper. Few bits of feedback, though. 

• Layout! Primarily the top bar, where you click all the things. On what you have so far, it's really clustered, and it looks pretty unprofessional. It does right now, on the current site, too, but that's besides the point, since we're getting the reskin and general redo of things, I guess. Here's how I think links should be done, as it would look a lot better, and honestly, it'd make it easier to find what you need on a daily basis, but if you need more obscure things, still let you find them:

 

• Wiki! Integrate that danged thing into the site, and make it a lot more user friendly. Maybe make another quick link bar specifically for areas of the wiki, and give someone the task of making that thing appealing and easy to navigate. Throw it at the Lore Team! I know that they've been doing a lot for making tomes and things for the 4.0 events, but I don't think that they have much to do now a days, and they could be doing that. Or heck, make a Site Team, or a Wiki Team... 
• Showcase! You're doing all kinds of fancy videos to show off new plugins and things, so why not show off the new features of the site when it's reskined? Have someone take a gander about the site, showing off old and new things. Blogs, for example, or how there are a lot of interesting lore pieces hidden on the wiki...
• Social media! I've noticed how on facebook, tumblr, et cetera, the Media Team runs little questions of the day... Who lead the Phoenix Rebellion, what were the Four Brothers' names? Things like that. Give them the chance to actually reward players for answering them correctly, to encourage people to actively follow LotC. Like... fifty minae to the person who answers it right! But give a format or  something to respond to. Something else, try to integrate it into the site. If IP.Suite doesn't support it, get someone with even minute html skill on it. Just a feed of recent posts from twitter, facebook, tumblr, and all of that.
• Danny! What happened to Danny? I remember seeing a blog post he made with a lot of interesting things about what he was doing for the 4.0 reskin, but they never came around. He had some pretty good ideas, like the fancy little area for newcomers.
• Teams! Like I was saying earlier, get someone on doing things for the site. General maintenance and improvement. Give a GM or two the job; let MT, LT, whoever; or someone. There are a lot of cool things that can be done to improve players' experience and generate more new player retention by making our site more flashy, better looking, easier to navigate, and just generally more pretty. I'd volunteer, ha.
