The Heartlander National League or the HNL is a political association in the Empire of Oren which upholds an extreme reactionary ideology centred upon Heartlander nationalism and patriotism. The term Heartlander refers to a collective identity that encompasses the cultures of the Renatian, Savoyard, Auvergnian, Illatian and Salvite people.

 

Formed on the 19th of the Amber Cold, 1474 by Walter Hess, an ethnic Savoyard, the Heartlander National League is a nationalist movement and political party that espouses a unique political doctrine compiled from the recovered writings of those considered ‘proto-nationalists’ by the league, including St. Lucien, St. Adrian, Maric Varodyr and William III Horen. Any Heartlander who can prove his or her cultural identity can join the party, regardless of social status.

 

In addition to the ideology they maintain, the aim of the Heartlander National League is to provide a unified platform from which the Heartlanders of the Empire can exert a reasonable degree of influence over its government.

 

The official call to salute of the Heartlander National League is ‘For the Heartland!’ followed by a clenched right fist over one’s heart, with the response, ‘We are ready!’

 

Ideology

 

There are four doctrines which are considered the four pillars of the Heartlander National League’s collective ideology.

 

Heartlander nationalism

 

Heartlander nationalism is the nationalism that asserts that the Heartlander people are a nation of their own and promotes the cultural unity of the Heartlander people and the cultures which that label encompasses. It is an ethnic nationalism which officially covers the Renatian, Savoyard, Auvergnian, Illatian and Salvite people on account of their relative cultural homogeneity.

 

As a political theory it calls for the political unity of the Heartlander people within the Empire and upholds the belief that the institution of Empire was created and driven chiefly by a Heartlander majority. As a result, one of its goals is to achieve greater representation within the Empire again, as well as a greater influence over the state’s governance.

 

It also upholds the concept of ‘the Greater Heartland’, a term which applies to the irredentist ideology directed towards the creation of a single, ethnically pure Heartlander nation-state which encompasses all those territories populated predominantly by cultures that belong to the Heartlander subrace.

 

Heartlander nationalism officially opposes religious sectarianism and supports Canonism, considering both the sects of Lucienism and Ruskan Orthodoxy to be schismatic heresies. At present, the Heartlander National League does not espouse a policy of secessionism from the Empire and desires to work with the Empire to achieve its goals.

 

Ultraconservatism

 

The Heartlander National League maintains conservative views in both the social and economic field. They favour a return to the traditional status quo in matters such as a women’s role in a family and the rights of non-humans within the nation, believing that a number of non-humans are incompatible with the operation of a culturally human and Heartlander society. As well as this, it decries the compromising of these conservative principles in politics and law, condemning arbitrariness and what it considers ‘unprincipled politics’ which revolve around power stratas and practicality rather than ideologies and teachings.

 

The HNL supports the concept of the ‘assimilated elf’ or ‘assimilated dwarf’, acknowledging the great value of foreign peoples, but remaining strong in it’s sponsorship of pure Heartlander bloodlines and preservation of Heartlander cultures and ideology. It strongly condemns the concepts of Malinization, among other forms of cultural conversion from that of the Heartlander.

 

It strongly opposes what it sees as fraternization with barbaric non-human entities such as the orcs of Krugmar, taking an avid stance against the arbitrariness of the government in regards to their atrocities committed, both on human and foreign soil.

 

The HNL also supports a less merciful and harsher judicial system, aiming to deter crime and treason through self-confessed draconian methods.

 

Militarism

 

Militarism refers to the belief of the Heartlander National League that as a nation, the Empire should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it to defend and promote its national interests. It strongly opposes any form of appeasement diplomacy and concessions to foreign powers in times of conflict.

 

The HNL lauds any strong and decisive action when it comes to foreign and military policy, placing no value on empty threats and promises. It supports any acquisition of foreign territory through conquest and takes a strong and uncompromising stance against foreign entities and institutions which are diametrically ideologically opposed to its doctrines.

 

Populism

 

The League avidly supports the will of the people and the will of the majority. It values the opinions of the Empire’s majority populace and supports its right to influence government and key policies. As the majority populace within the Empire, the Heartlanders have the right to a larger voice regarding governmental matters.

 

The HNL condones and sponsors the formation of a representative parliamentary system and legislature, in order to grant a voice to the Empire’s people.

"I, the son of Imperial Princess Anne Horen, was an ardent supporter of conservative traditionalism in the face of encroachment, and a strong proponent of the espousal of the high-imperial cultural ideals before being forced out by the Raevir minority. Although loyal to my own state and at odds with certain elements of your party manifesto, I offer what help I can to promote the representation of the Heartlander people and the reclamation of cultural practices within your nation.

Yakov peers out from the window of the Imperial Palace as word is brought to his hears of the formation of the Heartlander National League. Turning around to his father, Emperor Tuvya, he begins to speak aloud.

 

"Hmm, shall have to arrange meet with this league... Figure what does desire of future Oren! Perhaps Heartlanders have yet something more to offer we."

We aren't trying to control Oren, but protect the interests of its most populated people, the Heartlanders. Lord Winter is also not a member of the League for it only consists of Heartlanders who reside in the Heartland of the Empire. Our deputy leader is not a man of the Nobility and our leader is of the Gentry. Class doesn't matter in our League be it peasant or prince you can be leader of the HNL. So before you make comments without using your mind, why don't you read our manifesto."

Uthor tilted his head as he read the paper smiling as he sat down searching for a quill and inkwell. Once it is in hand he wrote and sent a letter over to Maric.

It is good to see the origins of this Empire's very creation is being protected by the ones who will not dare lose ourselves to History. Consider House Silverblade an ally to this League. I remember when House Silverblade and others help bring House Horen back to the throne and Godfrey was a simple king. If there is a way to help preserve what it means to be a Heartlander feel no problem in seeking me to speak with. As long as nothing of treason occurs, but we are both faithful knights so I know there is no need to worry about that.

As a child of the once-great heartland, I find a league such as this to be a despicable representation of the people that once were. Where are your dragons? Where is your pomp and ceremony and frivolous nobility? I whole heartedly support the Raevir efforts to eradicate your culture and seek to see it smothered under the feet of my comrades.

The Renatian, Savoyard, Auvergnian, Illatian and Salvite people all weep over the response that you have given. The Once Great House of Winter has fallen so low to outright state it wishes to eradicate its own people in order to impress the House of Carrion in order to regain former status among its former liege, the very same liege who actually support our effort to institute Heartland pride to strengthen the foundations of the Empire. It is sad that the House of Winter has once again shown its true colours that it is outright corrupted by its lust for power and control. Due to this action the Heartland National League has banned you Harold Winter from joining our ranks due to your pompous nature.
