Rollbacks And Refunds

Hello. Apparently today there was a server rollback or some such problem, which has resulted in a loss of certain items. Late last night I had just moved a huge quantity of things to a different location, and logged on to check that they were still there. Fortunately they were, however the large number of swords and armor that I moved had all lost their values, all damage and weight modifiers are gone. (Most of the swords were in the 30-40% range, crafted by a Master Blacksmith.) There were a few enchanted items in the mix, all of those are also gone. (Mostly just Bane of Arthropods and Unbreaking.)

Even more concerning, I had also moved nearly a double chest full of written books, and three or four books that had writing in them but hadn't been completed yet. Now they all look like this...

And are completely blank. There are also a couple of named items that have lost their descriptions. An emerald renamed corrupt ring or something along those lines, a trapped chest renamed 'Thanhium Strongbox' and probably others I don't remember, as I didn't think I would need to screenshot them.

I don't know what I really expect the staff to be able to do about this. If there's some kind of database so that the books can be retrieved that would be great. However I heard from others with more simple requests that they cannot be reimbursed.

Earlier, however:

Now, I understand the reasoning behind this policy. It would be very easy for someone to tell a GM they had something they didn't have. However, with simple requests like music discs (essentially anything that isn't asking for armor, weapons, diamonds, etc.) or if someone has proof of the items they lost I feel it is only fair that they be compensated.

A staff member, essentially, derped. As a result players lost items, or buildings, or progress in their profession, or livestock, or minas. It's happened before. And as before, the staff rarely does anything to set things right. I understand the reasoning, as I said, and I understand the difficulty and work it would entail. But simply ignoring this sort of thing isn't right either. So please, do something about this.

PS - IS there a way to get all those books back? QQ

Edit: Whatever happened is fixed and all my items are back to the way they should be. Yay! Thank you whoever fixed it. However, I do still think this is a conversation worth having. Since it will most likely happen again...

I agree, a staff member screwed up and as a result we lost a ton of stuff. To then refuse to refund what we lost as the result of a mistake that wasn't our fault just seems unfair.

I know the staff are human and hence will **** up from time to time, but screw ups, intentional or no, should always come with compensation for the people who they effect.

Sorry but its impossible for the Staff to refund every persons things that were lost, I lost multiple hours in building and crafting time.

I lost six music disks. I'm in the process of getting them refunded, but I'm going to vent a little here anyway. I'll try to keep it constructive, but this week has honestly been a total *****.

I'm not a materialistic person. That's not me bragging, I just couldn't care less for expensive things or a new phone. I find solace in trinkets: carved animals, empty perfume bottles, small love notes; however, music trumps all of these for me. I have always been a musician. I collect snippets of music, and practically live in a sea of notes at times. Minecraft music has always been one of my favourites. I have both minecraft albums on my phone, and they are what I listen to when I need to focus. Having these music disks was one of the higher points of LotC for me - above skills, minas, or donator perks.

Then they were gone. It was actually incredibly frustrating. I had a hard day already and this made it worse, a lot worse. I don't care about shiny diamond armor, minas, or fancy houses. I care about being able to drop down a jukebox and jam out while RP'ing, and know that other people can enjoy the experience with me. It is possibly my favourite thing to do upon LotC - play music and RP with close friends. Now I don't have the disks anymore, and it feels very dull. You may be recoiling in confusion, "Do these stupid items mean this much to him?" Yes. These stupid items mean this much to me because they make me feel like I'm helping other people on this server enjoy themselves more, and because I love music. Don't dismiss my affection for things because they are constructed of pixels and waves. I want them back.

I can only imagine how other people feel who've lost things that matter to them as well.

I wouldn't say impossible, however no one is willing to try. Though obviously there are things they can't refund. They can't rebuild a house for you (though they could reimburse your materials).

Now i'm not trying to be a GM apologist but its kinda unreasonable to ask them to refund like 200+ peoples stuff

So, you get all of your things made weightless iron, and weapons that could have been replaced with a GM. While I, and several others have now lost a large amount of money and armor/diamonds.

While you get your stuff rolled back, I lost all of my personas money and nothing to represent for it. So my character, is 100% broke, with no valubles.

This has always sounded like something too difficult/slippery, so staff took the policy as it was and just held onto it for the sake of not getting anyone in trouble.

I wouldn't aim any talk about this at the GMs, they're covering their own asses. I'd aim at the admins and potential ways of making this issue less touchy, more easily regulated, and more everyone-friendly.

This rollback thing completely broke my inn. I lost all my pet chickens, all my decorative heads that were a female dog and a half to get to begin with. All my flowerpots are broken, all my paintings and item frames are broken and gone. I've lost at least a stack and a half of leather in item frames alone. And now I'm probably going to lost the stack and a half I had to use to replace them the first time.

I lost all of the books I was just given, all of the renamed items I had put together for my teas and khafees for roleplay. All the wool that was renamed and recolored to represent Puxies are gone. All the money i made from today and the day before, and my voting is gone.

GG. I honestly dont even know how to twist the roleplay to explain the vanishing of all this stuff.

Refund. Heh, thats a good one. If the server does revert back to yesterday we lost an entire library. I will personally lose 8'ish stacks of iron i just bought and 5120'ish minas.

Really, though, we should focus more on discussion of refunds and policy in general than what we lost today.

While I never really liked that GM's weren't supposed to reimburse things in these scenarios, my advice if you can't get your stuff back is to just roleplay it like some big calamity happened that messed up everyone's stuff. Play it off in RP. Yah, it sucks that items got lost, but it's not too hard to suck it up and move on. You'll forget in a week anyways.

Also, this isn't directed at anyone in particular (especially not bird, who seemed pretty reasonable and not upset in her post), but I'm sure if someone hasn't gotten super upset already, someone certainly will.

But yah, these should be able to be reimbursed to the best of the GM's ability, in my opinion.
