It's a concept that's a little too real for us ladies, especially ones that traverse the rocky lands of the internet.

But then, no one should have to justify why something intended to be offensive offends them. They should be able to say "can you not" and have their wishes respected person to person.

I'm sorry but pulling the girl card just won't work. I've never throw a fit because someone called me a d i ck and I think every dude out there knows just how real theirs is. And if your 'rocky lands of the internet' are so perilous, maybe you should go back to monopoly.

As I said, if you're offended by it OOC, I don't care, go ahead and be offended. But being offended by it because Character A called your character a c unt means

a) You take RP way to seriously and OOC'ly and need to take a step back.

b) You're pretty damned dumb.

@Bird, I listened and laughed.

Jade didn't. Jade just left the situation that was causing offence. The player causing the offence decided that consisted "right to PvP", pursued her across the map and then got his ET friend to abuse their ET pex to teleport him after her, then BRed her when she logged out.

Oh well. Because JadeKadoa gets offended about things people say ICly, does that mean that I can't say offensive things privately or ICly? (Hopefully to people who won't get offended. Heaven knows I try to censor myself.) Shall I expect a change in GM or server policy to protect her from offense, or protect someone else from offense?

How about I suggest something? We put in a toggleable word filter that censors bad things in a chat channel if the user so wishes. That way people can be shielded from bad things and people who would like to say bad things are allowed to say them.

No, you really, really aren't, and there have been quite lengthy bans for that sort of thing, especially the second.

Explain to me how happy tavern friends from the Golden Cloud Inn were allowed to threaten my character's wife with forced abortion, and how I might go about ban reporting them for it?

Lago, provide me with links for these "lengthy bans". I see this **** happening so many times it's almost a LoTC meme like "hail friends of malinor".

I'm not the one calling others dumb over opinions. I'm not the one insisting on my right to use offensive language on the grounds that the opinions that make me mad enough to call a person I don't know dumb don't actually matter.

In fact, what I'm doing is arguing on behalf of people who are affected by a lack of courtesy they shouldn't have to deal with, not even in trying to get people to understand the error of their ways.

The argument that people take RP too seriously is too often used as a fallback to state that a person feels inherently superior due to their aloof attitude and ability to attack others without feeling anything. I'll admit I don't understand it, so I won't attack it, just state that I really don't understand why the argument is ever considered valid.

Whatever baggage you have that causes you to act this way, I hope you overcome it and live a happy, fulfilling life.

But now for my own opinions.

Honestly, if someone gets upset about something as trivial as a word being typed, they are being over sensitive. On the other hand, though, if you lack the self control to just avoid typing a given word after being asked (note, ASKED, politely is preferred!), you're either being immature, rude, mean, or intentionally harassing the person, and thus I can't really defend your being banned or kicked or muted or w/e. (Assuming the word in question is something like ***** or some other 'naughty' word. This is a PG-13 server after all where we can't partake in teh cybers. Best to keep that in mind). It's also important to remember that just because someone requests you not use a certain word does not mean they are 'upset' in any way besides not wanting to see or think about said word. For naughty words like I mentioned above it is a perfectly reasonable request.

Nobody said that, you're arguing with a point nobody's making in order to win support against the point they are (that's what a strawman is btw).

What people are saying is if someone asks you to stop using a word that upsets them, stop using it while talkingto them. It's simple, common decency to use an alternative.

Merrymoogle was banned for months for RPing trying to get an abortion.

I'm going to ditto this so it can be separate from the rest of my rather controversial argument.

As long as it stays rp and rp only and not like, said in rp but meant as an ooc insult towards someone. Then it should be fine.

In Elysium Kalos?

He was banned for, as a noble, trying to force two people into sex, and other rather off-color things.

I dont care if you use the word around other people. I do not like the word. I do not like what it means. I rather it not be said around me. It is not that hard of a concept to keep that word out of RP around me. I dont go to zero and call him a N*** because I know it would offend him. I dont call guais any arabic slang word (which luckily i dont know) cause it would offend him. These words do not need to be said to people if its going to OOCly offend them. Same with how retard turned out. Keep using it when asked to stop it will be a banned word. Use c*** around your friends, but I ask you refrain from using it around me. There are far more colorful ways to convey it.

Firstly: That's a completely passive aggressive and rude final line you wrote that puts you about as low as the person you're referring to, whom called you stupid. Implying that he has some kind of 'baggage' and you want him to live a 'happy, fulfilling life' has got to be passive-aggressiveness at its highest point.

Secondly:

Simply put, a large portion of the community does not see being offended as justification to stop an action they are doing. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should have the right to stop them, or others should have the obligation, to accommodate you. This is because we see being offended as a personal problem that has nothing to do with us; we do not expect to be coddled and do not desire to coddle others, either.

If you do not like RPing with someone, then you need to resolve the issue in-character or find a way to walk away in-character as soon as possible.

Seems the staff define offending people repeatedly after being asked to stop as harassment and thus that firmly qualifies it as rule breaking.

Edit: And I have to agree with them. If we were to turn it around and make it /not/ harassment, then I could pm zero and call him the n-word every day and not get banned for it because, well, it's zero's personal problem if that makes him upset and I don't have any obligation to accommodate that.

Have some deadpool.

As for your second point, sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others is a basic human skill. No one's asking you bottlefeed anyone, just don't be an ******* and use words they've asked you not to just because you can.

Edit for your edit: I feel as though the people who argue this sort of thing are often the sort who use the "you should be thicker skinned" argument to claim people have no right to refuse to RP with someone.
