Or perhaps that person could consider that the person saying the word isn't prescient, and therefore cannot predict the ever-changing personalities of someone they don't know.

Then the person being offended can politely ask that another word be used instead. It's not a complicated problem.

Exactly what I think.

Except this entire discussion is about a situation where you do know, and say it anyway.

You did actually read the first post of this topic, right guys?

Indeed. The problem arises when people skip the politely asking step or when, after being asked to stop, the other person continues. Or gets mad at being 'oppressed'.

I still don't get how cu** offends someone. But whatever, I wont judge. To each his own.

You know what **** means, yes?

It's usually used in a hostile way, and the offence is derived from the implication that the woman you're calling that has no worth beyond as a sex object: that she is just her ******.

Wow. The forum censoring is censoring correct anatomical terminology. Ultraconservative censoring software or what? It used to censor gay too.

If you get offended by someone calling you that OOC, fine. But throwing a fit because a character called another one that same word is pretty stupid.

There are limits to this, I guess. If you said something that you knew was going to offend someone, that's on you.

People shouldn't have the right to force their emotional baggage onto LoTC though. If someone's going to go full-tumblr and start saying "these words trigger me" that's a different story.

Also, wait, why are we censoring RP? Using offensive words ICly is usually an IC attempt to inflict IC offense.

I wasn't addressing the problem in the first post, I read through and addressed the posts that stem.

But the post was about a BR resolvement that was addressing the use of the word cu** in general. In said BR, the person saying that word had no knowledge of the other person in the BR being offended by that word.

You did actually read where the statement came from, right guys?

It's a concept that's a little too real for us ladies, especially ones that traverse the rocky lands of the internet.

But then, no one should have to justify why something intended to be offensive offends them. They should be able to say "can you not" and have their wishes respected person to person.

It's also incredibly childish for, if someone does ask you not to OOC, to carry on saying it because you can.

The post is a direct attack on Menarra. Therefore what Menarra actually said is what matters here.

And as all posts are referring to the situation in the first post, they are all referring to it.

Sure, but is it not also childish to get moderators involved because you got offended about a word said to you?

That's effectively you running up to a teacher on the playground and saying "XXX said a bad word!!!"

Regardless of server rating, for the love of god, this server is not censored -ICly- in any other way. You're allowed to RP injury down to the grinding noises of your shattered bones, or RP slashing a pregnant woman's womb open. You're allowed to RP mature things from sex to the Spanish Inquisition, but you can't say "c**t"? That doesn't make any sense to me really.

This, this is what the whole conniption is about. It really isn't that hard to find a new word to say if someone is offended by it. Like seriously this isn't about freedom of speech, this is about people being inconsiderate and immature people by carrying on something that obviously bothers someone.

Just like they teach you in grade school, when someone asks you to stop. Stop. End of story. No ifs ands or buts, no argument needed, just do it [Nike].

I don't think the fact that you're offended should matter or even come into account for anything, ever. In fact, no one should have to care that you're offended. That's your problem, not theirs.

"Being offended" is entirely subjective and brings literally no harm to you.

When I'm offended by something, I just say "Wow. I didn't like that." and proceed to go away and not interact with what it is that offended me again.

Solve your problems in RP, and if you're being offended you can say something in OOC. You should NEVER use "I'm offended" as an excuse to just walk away from RP. Grow the skin thickness to at least wrap things up IC.

I never, never, never understood why "BEING OFFENDED" is so absolutely horrible. It's almost like it's so bad that we need to avoid it at all costs. It's... Really not that terrible. It's, uh, a few hours of feeling bad at the most, then you move on with your life.

Jade didn't. A random player started yelling **** at her character, so she left. The player causing the offence decided that consisted "right to PvP", pursued her across the map and then got his ET friend to abuse their ET pex to teleport him after her, then BRed her after she logged out.

To be honest, I'm shocked the ET in question wasn't banned, and even more shocked that they're still an ET.

No, you really, really aren't, and there have been quite lengthy bans for that sort of thing, especially the second.
