It's not surpression, it's called not being a ****.

What Menarra's saying is that if you know someone's uncomfortable with a word, it's effortless not to use it. You can use it if you must but then you are the ****.

It's called being considerate. If a person isn't comfortable with something you're doing, move on to someone else. Why would you bother with them, anyway? It's a game, it's supposed to be fun. So if someone isn't having fun with what you're doing go find someone you can have mutual fun with and let the other person do the same. Or, if you are absolutely determined to interact with that person be considerate and keep the RP within their comfort zone. It's the same principle as torture RP. Some people don't like it, and they're not obligated to put up with it.

Boohoo, you can't say c u n t anymore. Cry me a ******* river. It's not like they're saying we can't say ****, dipshit, *******, asshat, and a plethora of other words. Is it really that hard to try and be a good person that you don't use /one/ word around /one/ person?

Well we can't use it around anyone now m8

I'm entirely offended by the word 'man'. Can we remove this word from roleplay?

It's the assumption and stereotyping of the 'statement' in Arabic that gets people offended or 'triggered'. It's closely related to the events of 9/11 and similar events , due to the terrorists on the planes reportedly shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

Onto the actual topic , words hurt people. Simple as. If someone is offended by the word , don't use it. If you're using the word in the comfort of good company , why can't you use it? No-one offended.

Wait, so because people stereotype against Arabs [non-Muslims even], Sikhs, and Muslims... I can't say Allahu Akbar?

I just want to make sure this isn't an attempt by atheists to whine about a ruddy phrase that really actually has no relation to words such as c-unt, n-igger, etc.

oh god those terrible evil atheists are at it again

i wonder what they're planning next

Gaius, you know as well as everyone else that Allahu Akbar tends to be what terrorists perverting Islam as a guise yell after murdering people. The vast majority of times it gets posted on the forum is referencing that, not its original meaning.

The swastika was originally a Hindu symbol symbolising Brahman. When people post it on the forums nobody believes for a second that's what they mean by it.

White people getting offended by the word ******

Chrsitians being offended by the phrase "Allah Akhbar."

Europeans getting offended by the word "Kebab"

Anyone see a pattern here?

That goes both ways frendo. If someone is offended by a word in a game, maybe they should

a) Not actually play a game and go live with the amish

b) Stop being so sheltered

c) go find someone you can have mutual fun with and let the other person do the same

And comparing torture and swear words is a bit of a joke. But you're right! They are not obligated to put up with it, they can walk away and let people who don't get triggered by a rude word enjoy themselves.

It's really, really simple guys.

Don't be an arsehole. If you say something you know is going to provoke or upset someone without good reason because "mah rights", then you are an arsehole.

Im confused though Lago, Allahu Akbar contains no offensive words. I can post the George Carlin video again where he goes through the list. I am not making fun of women, transgender, African Americans, etc. I mean, google translate it if you don't believe me.

The atheist comment is just me being a smart-arse, not serious.

Well that would mean that the word Ireland should be offensive, after all, the IRA were always going on about how great Ireland is.

Or the word freedom or democracy should be offensive, as American soldiers in say, Vietnam, often went there in the name of freedom and democracy, and then proceeded to kill Vietnamese children.

Just because they can be used in an offensive way, doesn't mean that those words are inherently offensive. If we worked off the opposite assumption then you can say bye-bye to freedom of speech.

Of course you can say it. It's just that some people will be stupidly offended.

Indeed, I would encourage someone who is offended to find someone they won't be offended by to RP with. One problem is that a lot of the time the person who is doing the offending either won't let the person leave or pursues them when they try to. It seems we agree on this issue.

You're welcome.
