Goldrim 1422 Popular Post Share Posted February 6, 2015 I simply cannot fathom how this has not been addressed yet, it’s incredibly immature and borderline pathetic to silence someone simply because the person they are interacting with is offended by something he or she said. First of all the conversation has nothing to do with them as a person, but everything with their RP persona. And secondly, if they are offended by someone's way of speech they have more than an opportunity to express this through their RP. If they remain this easily offended IRL they are going to have a bad time. Stop giving in to butthurts swinging their moobs around after they got offended by someone's vocabulary, whether it is out of principle or anything else. There’s a difference between strong language and deliberately trying to offend someone. Tell them to stop taking it personal and to grow up, especially you, as an admin. rip Charlie Hebdo
WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Unfortunately, this is a complicated matter. Most words have implications and subtle passive aggressive meanings behind them. Even things said ICly with quotations around it can be aimed to jab OOCly at someone in a racist or sexist way. I dont think we should let people void RP because they arent comfortable that someone elses character has a potty mouth, no, but implications are everything.
GodEmperorFlam 3447 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Boohoo, you can't say c u n t anymore. Cry me a ******* river. It's not like they're saying we can't say ****, dipshit, *******, asshat, and a plethora of other words. Is it really that hard to try and be a good person that you don't use /one/ word around /one/ person?

~ Fiend ~ 611 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Gotta be conscious of what it's like to sit there and wait while people shout insult after insult at your character. Sure, it's RP, but what fun is it? Just.. sitting, waiting while you sigh quietly, knowing that there will always be backlash if you say hey, can we use insults other than *****, *****, or ****? I'm not claiming girls are over-sensitive, but it gets old, and it gets personal. Be a pottymouth, I don't care, but do it within reason and for the love of god don't claim it's some issue of oppression when a real life girl doesn't like the word *****. I could go on about the origins of the word, but in its current form it's vulgar and insulting and if someone doesn't like the idea of being called that, no matter how much you want to argue the issue of IC versus OOC, it's better just to not use the word. In fact.. It's common courtesy. Edit: Oh yeah, and it's slang for ****** so why even go there when cybering is disallowed? No need to push it.

Is it really that hard to try and be a good person that you don't use /one/ word around /one/ person? This perfectly sums up my response. But on the real. I can take a lot of stuff, as modern day school is just as bad as the Oren- internet. But as it was stated, have common courtesy here. I don't think it's cool to say things that offend others. A few bad words in character, no big deal, right? But just going off with as many horrid things as you can say, just to appease your roleplay needs, is a bit unfair to others. Try to substitute your obscenities with more, tasteful words. Go f*** yourself is a lot dumber to see in character than go plow yourself, yeah? The more tasteful and interesting, the more interesting the roleplay and response gained. <

Z3r05t4r 855 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Being detached and level-headed is part of being admin, from what I deem. If they can not go through with it, they are not suited to be in that position in the first place? Also, I do not know why, but this picture never fitted better (careful, offensive). EDIT: Adding onto my post, on the other hand I'd agree with the "rule" itself, to note, but it's a coin with two sides, so the party who feels insulted should consider too, why they feel insulted and what they could do about it. Do not always give the fault to the one side whose character goes about and is racist/offensive/insertfittingadjective.
xDK 1205 Share Posted February 6, 2015 The problem is pretty straight forward, don't be offensive in the chat towards other players, by attempting to aim words towards their OOC appearence or sex. Sometimes people get offended when words that isn't supposed to be mentioned in RP, is aimed towards someones character. Because it's not about what you intend to do with your words, it's the way that they are recieved by the oposing person. Stuff like racism and religious opinions. I walked on the road a while ago, and I found an NPC having a turban on its head, saying "allahu akbar" when you right clicked it.. Stuff like this is very offensive. Samson Option 9652 Share Posted February 6, 2015 You... do realize Allahu Akbar, when translated from Arabic to English, simply means 'God is Great'. Right? Don't be triggered by that please.

DrakeHaze. 2524 Share Posted February 6, 2015 I'm entirely offended by the word 'man'. Can we remove this word from roleplay?
Rassidic 470 Share Posted February 6, 2015 You... do realize Allahu Akbar, when translated from Arabic to English, simply means 'God is Great'. Right? Don't be triggered by that please. It's the assumption and stereotyping of the 'statement' in Arabic that gets people offended or 'triggered'. It's closely related to the events of 9/11 and similar events , due to the terrorists on the planes reportedly shouting 'Allahu Akbar'. Onto the actual topic , words hurt people. Simple as. If someone is offended by the word , don't use it. If you're using the word in the comfort of good company , why can't you use it? No-one offended.
