It's a sad day when someone has to make a post about getting pissed when someone says "Be nice to other people".

If someone is doing something IC that makes you uncomfortable, don't do it. You can't just say "wtf its a game wtf is wrong with you". Different people are offended by different things. Like CrayfishChris said: "Be nice to people".

Oh we can turn that around quite easily. "Be nice and deal with it." or even better: "Be nice and deal with it for the sake of RP." After all, if you're such a fancy pants god-like roleplayer with a "holier than thou" approach like some people have shown in this thread, then surely you can be mature about it and not let it get to you, no?

"Hi, I'm German and I'm offended when someone says "Hail" because that triggers all of my country's past, can we please ban the word from the LotC dictionary?"

My god, man...

All this censorship is complete and utter bullshit.

Honestly, if someone says something that GENUINELY OFFENDS you, then make a BR or report it to a GM. If someone's just talking and they tend to use, god forbid, 'curse words' (literally just pixels on a screen, don't know why people should be upset by them) they should be allowed to so long as it isn't actually hurting anyone. If I shoot one of my mates a PM saying "ayyy what's up c*nt!" I shouldn't be kicked from the server (or banned) just for using that word, I should only be in trouble if I'm actually offending someone to the point where they believe my being punished is necessary, hence BR's exist.

Then in RP it's a whole other story. You should be able to say whatever you want in RP (assuming it's legit RP, not trolling) because you can only offend other people's CHARACTERS in RP, not the people themselves. If you're getting upset over what a CHARACTER in a game says, you should really be rethinking your life's values.

if it offends you then leave

The person in question did. They then got chased in an attempted noRP kill and when they got away the chaser got their ET friend to teleport them. When the person in question then logged out, they got BRed. On the BR, Menarra suggested that not using a word someone tells you bothers them OOC might just be a nice thing to do, Goldrim took mortal offence and posted this thread.

It's completely effortless not to use one word around one person when that person asks you not to. It costs you nothing and it means everyone gets along better. The people with "issues" are the ones who are so mortally offended at the suggestion that they show a little courtesy to one another that they start screaming "censorship!" like distressed children

If that's your attitude to life, you'll end up in the ****. And if you're just like this on LotC, the internet's not an excuse to be a *****.

You should be able to say whatever you want in RP

To be fair, you can only say stuff that'd make sense for you to say in character.

If your attitude in life is to faint and/or flail your arms in outrage at the merest mention of a vulgar word, you'll end up in the sh it.*

I was talking in general as i was not aware of the situation, but i dont agree with you

If it was a word said in roleplay i literally see no reason as to why you should take offense.

Of course it is a completely different thing when you talk about real life, but my post was strictly about saying such words in rp.

-snip-

So simply because you find it enjoyable to make other people uncomfortable OOC through your RP actions, that gives you the right to say "Tough ****" and make them not enjoy themselves on the game they also play? How dissapointing.

I don't understand why people get so emotional over it. Yeah sure, I got butthurt a few times because of RP (moreover politics) but if you have to disrupt Roleplay because of your feelings and then complain about it, you should take a few good hard looks at your life and decide if that's the way you want to go.
