There are two sides to this argument.

One, that people are being thin-skinned and should harden up and stop getting offended

And two, that people are being insensitive and should learn to be considerate for others

Both of these viewpoints must be considered. Some benign things like "God is great" shouldn't be offensive without context, however things like "cu.nt" and the like do have the charge to offend.

I was talking about the relation between a teorrist NPC skin, and the words.

As someone who is Muslim, I've taken the Chris Rock route and refuse to get offended by that. And trust me, you all haven't seen what Coaster and others did dressing up as jihadis and trolling me. Yet - I didn't get offended. Am I doing something wrong?

Im confused though Lago, Allahu Akbar contains no offensive words. I can post the George Carlin video again where he goes through the list. I am not making fun of women, transgender, African Americans, etc. I mean, google translate it if you don't believe me.

The atheist comment is just me being a smart-arse, not serious.

Gaius, you know as well as everyone else that Allahu Akbar tends to be what terrorists perverting Islam as a guise yell after murdering people. The vast majority of times it gets posted on the forum is referencing that, not its original meaning.

The swastika was originally a Hindu symbol symbolising Brahman. When people post it on the forums nobody believes for a second that's what they mean by it. You might not mean it that way but that's what people will assume.

Islamic Terrorists also happen to talk about the Jews a lot. Surely then, if they talk about Jews when committing acts of terror, the word Jew should be banned?

-wonderful world of browser lag double posting-

Oh yes, some kids seem to spank their monkey to the idea of harassing. My question is, have we tried ignoring it? I mean, I think these kids are trying to get a rise and once you supply their rise, well hell they look like the blonde chick in the 50 Shades of Grey going red in the face and gain some sort of pleasure. I mean, have we tried not supplying that rise? Whenever those lads went up to me in a jihadi skin and shouted 'Allahu Akbar', I simply didn't respond and they went off on their way.

Not saying anything should be banned, I'm saying that if you know people are going to take something the wrong way, can easily phrase it differently and do it anyway then to be honest you've got it coming when you get backlash.

Well.. I am soo sorry that I took up the terrorist/allahu akbar words, perhaps I should draw a more straight line and say that it is just as wrong as putting up a Holocaust skin that shouts "Heil Hitler". The point being that just because you aren't offended doesn't mean it can't offend others..

Oh crap guys watch out for the logical fallacy card.

Anyway, point is if you're offended by porn, you shouldn't watch porn.
If you're offended by a word, avert your eyes from the evil contained within those letters.

Please read my conversation with Lago, might be fruitful.

If you're offended by a word, avert your eyes from the evil contained within those letters.

If you know someone is offended by porn, don't shove porn in their face.

If you know someone is offended by a word, don't shout it at them.

If people who are offended by something avoid it, and other people avoid exposing them to it, we'll all be much happier.

Or perhaps that person could consider that the person saying the word isn't prescient, and therefore cannot predict the ever-changing personalities of someone they don't know.

Rather than getting mad or upset, just politely tell someone you don't like that word.

If they had a specific slogan that meant words to the effect of murdering Jews then it'd be reasonable to expect people not to childishly plaster it over the forums as some sort of tasteless joke.

Another example: Arbeit Macht Frei is a sequence of words with a completely innocous definition. If someone puts that over the gates of a fort they then name Kaer Elvendeathcamp is that okay?

Considering we're both posting in a thread thread dedicated to complaining about an admin so much as suggesting to avoid language you know someone'll take badly OOC I can safely say neither of us are currently ignoring it.

Well, this has devolved, but at the end of the day I doubt the ruling will change over some people being upset about it, because in the long run and in the roleplay community (read: non-minecraft) at large the rule is fairly consistent..

Mild language?
