Moot 1719 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Greetings LotC! Over the past few weeks many of the LM’s and GM’s alike have been putting together a new system in which magic shall operate. Before you panic and begin throwing chairs through windows, we’re not bringing back the MAT. We’ve all noticed a severe decrease in the quality of magical based roleplay ever since the initial removal of the MAT, and yet we also do not want to see a return of such a system. So instead, we’ve settled for the below idea in which we hope can bring some of that brilliance back to magical roleplay as a whole. We hope you’ll enjoy these changes and nor do we expect it to run smoothly first time around, should problems occur, we shall fix it. Thanks! -Moot Locking to roleplay based learning. (All magic) All magic will now have to be learned via roleplay, with designated Teachers. Household magic is an obvious exception. Everyone who has magic, may keep said magic. We’re not doing a sweeping purge. Players still learn 100% Icly, aside from blacklisting when necessary, we do not interject aside from guidance. Locking all magics mean that the eye for quality will inherently go up, if you’re not confident with the knowledge of magic lore you posses, contact an LM/Teacher. We’re always prepared to help. Teacher-Locked (Arcane only) This covers all the Arcane magics, and any other non Guild-locked magics. This is the only application process. Those who wish to teach a specific magic, need to apply, and then converse with specific LMs for said subtype. Teachers will be allowed to teach anyone they like, and it’s literally all done Rply, there is no student application, at all. We will keep a list of teachers, and keep it open for players to look through, in case they have questions, ect. Guild-Locked (Guild-locked only) This covers all Guild-locked magics, and only Guild-locked. Guild magics are regulated not by Teachers, but instead designated OOC leaders of said type of magic, called “Magic Keepers”. They may be questioned, and inquired by LM when necessary. Magic Keepers regulate their magic, and decide whom is what tier, and when they become said tier. If LMs find Magic Keepers are abusing their privileges, or doing an inefficient job, they may intervene. LMs may also provide staff support to try to offer interesting events for said Guild-locked groups. Self-Teaching Requires permission as well as specific guidance from LM/Magic Keepers alike Self-teaching can remain possible, by either speaking with an LM for suggested guidance, and designated teachers. Self-teaching is not about sending in screenshots, it’s simply asking questions for clarifications on what they’re doing Self-teaching won’t be as prevalent as it currently is. Blacklisting When blacklisting, the magic user in question must inform the team whom they learned magic from, so that said teacher may be questioned, to learn the source of the confusion and to rectify it. The main hope with blacklisting is to not prevent people from roleplay, but instead try to guide them into a more fair outlook as the cause for blacklisting tends to be powergaming or misunderstanding of the magic lore in question. After, or during a players blacklisting, said player needs to speak with a designated teacher to try and learn what they did wrong and to clarify what they can and cannot do with said lore. Think rehabilitation instead of condemnation. What we hope this will achieve A more quality magical roleplay experience which will hopefully avoid the elitism and superiority complexes. Abolishing of the issue that misinformed teachers teach misinformed students, who then go on to prejudge their ability set and eventually powergame which deludes the magical experience for others. No MAT and almost no applications process aside from the teacher application which only serves to provide the most magical savvy to teach people seeking magic. Self-teaching is babysitting like it has been in the past and is more stream-lined. Here is a list of both the Guild-locked, and Teacher-locked magics! Teacher-Locked Remember, Teacher-Locked looks for Teachers who apply; the people listed here approve of said Teachers Alteration: Transfiguration Telekinesis Translocation Evocation: Elemental Evocation Arcanism Conjuration Illusion: Sensory Illusion Mental Magic Cognitism Guild-Locked Remember, Guild-Locked is for preassigned Magic Keepers! Druids Necromancy Shade Blood Magic Clerical Magic (Both the Clerical Order and Chantry) Ascended Frost Witches Soul Puppetry Contract Magic Rune Smithing Golemancy Monk Magic Kha Magic Shamanism Dark Shamanism Fi Magic Anti-Void Anti-Diety With this completed, I will be shortly be posting the list of Teachers/Magic Keepers. Stay tuned!

~ Fiend ~ 611 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Oh god, no no no.. This sucks a lot, but at least get rid of the word 'tier'. Please. The idea of tiers needed to die.
Pandan 1452 Share Posted March 12, 2015 This system has been in the works for some time! Hopefully you'll all come to enjoy it as many of us hope you will!
Moot 1719 Author Share Posted March 12, 2015 Oh god, no no no.. This sucks a lot, but at least get rid of the word 'tier'. Please. The idea of tiers needed to die. Tiers don't, and shouldn't ever dictate power, or competence. With this system, it promotes a clear set of skills one can learn within a magic, and the progression of which it should be learned. Worry not, the tiers we once disliked are not present.
๖ۣۜ§osa (E.G.I.E.) 520 Share Posted March 12, 2015 THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN THINKING ON! A SYSTEM THAT YOU MUST LEARN FROM A TEACHER, AND TEACHERS NEED APPS! Another step in the right direction LoTC. Keep it up!

Aelu / Rel (Combustionary) 1540 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Absolutely love the new system. Will the teacher application be a formal set application or a less formal "talk to x lm?" system? My characer has been considering taking on a student soon. Apologies if the app is already out. Can't search much from my phone.

With this system, it promotes a clear set of skills one can learn within a magic, and the progression of which it should be learned. Worry not, the tiers we once disliked are not present. If you use the word tier, people will use them like the old tiers as they have been for months. If it's truly different, use a different word that doesn't carry so much negativity here. Magic Keepers regulate their magic, and decide whom is what tier, and when they become said tier.
