"How does my future look?.. Economically, emotionally, you decide! Surprise me."

Pern grins. She splits the deck down the center and shuffles both halves together. From the deck, she pulls six cards at random from the pile. She lays them all face down on the table, arranging them in a pattern that looks somewhat similar to the Lorraine Cross, but not quite. Two cards rest in the center, with four around them arranged at the north, south, east, and west points.

Pern places her two fingers on the first card in the center.

"This card will represent your present - the state of things in your life as it is."

Pern flips the card to reveal the image of a terrifying specter! It is a skeleton in a suit of plate armor, riding atop a white horse. In the skeleton's hand, he grips the pole of a black flag, emblazoned with the image of a rose in full bloom. Pern raises her eyebrows at the card. "According to my cards, you are currently in a state of dramatic transition. You could, perhaps, call it a 'death and rebirth'. You will soon set your old life aside and begin a new journey. A very fateful card, this is."

Pern's hand moves to the second card. "This card represents the challenge that you will soon face as a result of your transition." She flips the card. It reveals the image of two men standing on a battlefield. One looks contemptuously over his shoulder at the other. In his arms, the first man carries a sword. "This card embodies conflict - and conquest. It hints that you will soon face strong opposition and that you will overcome it. But you must not be too prideful about your victory, lest you face a downfall soon after."

Pern's hand moves to the third card. "This card will show us your past," she says. She flips it. It is upside down. The image depicts two street urchins outside of a church in the snow. Five pentacles mark the church windows. "This card tells me that, in the distant past, you suffered great adversity and difficulty, especially in terms of money. But, with luck and skill, you overcame it to become the person you are today."

Pern's hand moves to the fourth card. "This card represents the recent past - something that happened recently which still affects you now." She flips it. It depicts an aengul blowing a trumpet as joyous people watch from below. "You recently experienced a revelation - a rebirth, if you will. You heard an inner calling which prompted you to go in a new direction. And that has lead to your current state of transition."

Pern's fingers move to the last two cards. "These will represent your future. This fifth one will show us the best possible outcome or your current situation." Pern flips the card. It depicts a king sitting on a throne in the middle of a garden, holding a golden staff and a large coin. "This card represents security, control, prosperity, and a grand abundance. If all goes well, your venture will result in a time of unprecedented wealth and ease for you."

Pern moves to the final card. "This card will tell us the immediate future - what is soon to happen, instead of what may happen if things go well." The card depicts a king wearing blue, holding a sword pointed toward an empty sky. "This card tells me that, in order to achieve your destiny, you must think clearly and proceed with caution. Things may not always be as they seem, but if you use your wit and intelligence, you will overcome your obstacle and find your destiny."

Furrowing his brows, Publius shrugs before giving her a shot.

"Am I destined for greatness, or am I to forever be a military man, scribing, and bantering against Oren's foes? What fortunes will I have to pass on?"

Mithius nods slowly along, his jaw dropped in awe as he listens in. When the reading is done he fishes out some coins from his pockets and asks for a more precise reading about the coming challenge. "Please, do tell if this is too little or too much! But I'll be damned if I don't find out more!" The superstitious merchant begs the fortune teller.

"Will I find love again? Or more broadly, what does the future hold?"

Pern nods sagely. She lays out another six cards, drawn at random from her deck.

"This first card, as I have said, represents the present." She flips it to reveal the image of a man clad in red robes. He lifts a candle aloft over his head. The symbol for infinity -  - floats over his head. "This card is representative of new ideas and the act of bringing them to life. You know what you want - you want to find love - and you are still in the process of figuring out how to create that love. But love is not something you can bring about just by wishing for it. You must work in the physical world in order to find love."

"The second card is your obstacle." Pern flips the card. It is the same as one of Mithius's cards - the two street urchins in the snow beneath the church window. It is, again, upside down. "You were once very poor and shunned in society - or so this card tells me. But you overcame that and now you are a man who commands great respect. This might seem like a good thing initially, but this card has appeared in the obstacle position. It is your own sense of pride that is stopping you from finding love once again."

"The third card represents the distant past." Pern flips the card. It reveals a young man, his hair blowing in the breeze. He wields a sword. "This card represents a young man - possibly you, possibly someone you know - who, in his youth, rushed into things without thinking. He pushed too hard, too fast, and sometimes stepped on peoples' toes in order to get his way. This card describes a man who dives into things without thinking them through first."

"The fourth card represents the more recent past." Pern turns the card over. On the card is printed the image of a man carving a star into a gold coin. "This card represents hard work and apprenticeship. It represents a new beginning, especially in terms of career. It also suggests a vast improvement to your situation. You are working hard to make things better for yourself."

"The fifth card represents the best possible outcome in your quest for love," Pern continues. She flips the card. It reveals a family in a gondola. The man wearily paddles through the water. A forest of swords surrounds the family. "Ah, a fateful card. This card represents a transition - a transition that will be painful, but necessary. In order to find love, you must let go of your pride and change your ways. You must become a humbler man, a gentler man. It will be difficult, but in the end, you will be able to become a new man - a man worthy of love."

Pern touches the sixth card. "Your immediate future lies here." She flips the card, revealing a petulant youth sitting beneath a tree. The youth is surrounded by three golden goblets. "This card suggests you will be taking some time to meditate and reach a conclusion regarding my words." She smiles. "So go forth and think!"

Pern grins at sight of the coins. "I'd be willing to give you a private reading after I'm done with the rest of my customers, if you want."

Licius strolls smoothly in front of everyone that has formed a line by the table, now standing behind Mithius, the wry leer forming into a sly smile, before he'd ask Pern, sarcasm obviously in his voice.

"Will House de Bolbec, rightful rulers of Oren, ever succeed?"

"I most certainly do!" He says eagerly, seemingly enthralled by this whole business.

Mithras smiles, "Nice to see you again, Pern. Do you believe I can achieve anything?"

Pern smiles a little at her old acquaintance. "Let's ask the cards, shall we?" She lays out six, just as before.

She flips the first card. It depicts a happy family standing beneath a glorious rainbow, but the card is upside down. "When a card appears upside down like this, its meaning is inverted," she explains. "Normally, this card represents harmony, peace, a happy marriage, and familial happiness. Yet here, it appears upside down. This leads me to believe that you are living in a broken home. Your family is not as happy and prosperous as it once was. Disharmony and discontent run rampant."

"The second card is the obstacle you have to overcome in order to achieve your destiny." Pern flips the card. It reveals the image of a woman weeping in the darkness. "This card represents depression - hopelessness. You feel like you have no future, nowhere to go. You feel trapped and unable to move forward. But the truth is that you are overthinking things. The issue that you face is not quite as awful and inescapable as you think it is. Once you overcome the worry in your own heart, you may find the solution to your problem is easier than you expected."

"The third card peers into your distant past." Pern flips the third card. It depicts two men on the battlefield, one gazing contemptuously over his shoulder at the other - swords in hand. "You were once involved in a great conflict - a conflict that you wanted to win at all costs. You ended up conquering your foe, but at a great cost. You possibly lost friends or family in that conflict. And that conflict still haunts you today. It may be the current cause of unrest in your life."

"The fourth card reveals your recent past." Pern turns the card over. It depicted a knight in shining armor, holding a chalice and riding a white steed. It is, like the others, upside down. "This card tells me that there was a person in your life who greatly affected you. This person was moody, jealous - too controlled by his or her emotions - and it ended up causing you harm. It indicates a situation that, at first, seemed appealing - romantic - but then turned into something much darker. This person's actions affect you even today."

"The fifth card represents the best outcome for your future." Pern flips the card and reveals the image of an aengul with bright red wings. The aengul holds two chalices. She pours water from one chalice into the other. "This card represents moderation, balance, and purpose. It tells me that you will find a purpose in your life and you will achieve something - but you must first seek balance in your life and in yourself. Once you find that perfect harmony in your life, then you can go on to achieve something great."

"The final card is your immediate future." Pern flips the card. It depicts a celebration - a castle surrounded by flowers and people cheering. Yet, once again, it is inverted. "This card tells me that you will soon face increased disharmony and chaos in your life, but with patience and balance, you shall overcome it. Do not let the bad things in life overwhelm you - you will emerge from them as a stronger person."

((WHEW. These are a bit tiring to type out and I got a papercut from my cards. So I'll say that's enough for tonight and do the rest when I have extra free time.))

Mithras is awestruck, before nodding with a grimmer expression. "Your skills will never cease to amaze me, thank you."

Aenor, having decided to stick around for a few more days, emerges from his little corner in the tavern "Ker'ayla, or karin'ayla llir. It's been a while since I have been outside. Now, it seems to be quite the popular question, and I apologize if it seems to become rather old, but will I ever find love again?" Aenor would wait patiently for his turn afterwards. Aenor would subsequently look towards Mithras  and nod respectfully "Cousin."

Cederick de Bolbec, for watever reason is in the same tavern as all of these Orenians, however he approaches the elf.

"How does my future look in both the short and long term?"

Licius Dalma's mouth drops as he sees the Bolbec, eyes widening before he'd address his cousin Mithius, Constable Brennen and Captain Rom along other Savoie supporters in the tavern.

"It is a bulbous Bolbec!"

He then answers Cederick with a wide smile.

"What I can see is a dead guy unless you make a run for it, buddy!"
