I think one of my favorite parts of anthos was actually needing to travel. Everything was nicely spaced, and it was very fun to explore. I also liked how everything was regioned in the beginning, and land was distributed by the leaders. I dont mind some nexus plots around, but nation leaders need to be able to manage their land, thats how the feudalism occurs. Athera is much too compact, you cant walk a few blocks without seeing a tavern or castle.

Yeah I agree. I liked how it took time to go from point A to point B and how thee was more gradual change from place to place. Not a desert across a river from a place so cold it hurts.

Traits for a good map imo -

  • An awesome scale, plenty of landscapes to explore and roleplay in.
  • Fast travels between the spawn point and major cities.
  • Primary RP focus is to funnel players towards the major cities, where new players can mingle amongst veterans, and learn to RP accordingly. If players then choose to move outside cities, that's their choice.
  • Almost 0 non-nation regions, so that the landscape remains pristine and nice, whilst providing RP motivation for outsiders to speak to nation leaders who directly control all of their lands.
  • Lots and lots of snow.

At the moment, I've noticed new players in general are not learning to roleplay well due to the first environments that they are thrust into when being on the server being low quality RP. Whereas in past days, there were top quality groups with veteran members whom they could learn off. Now it's an echo chamber of sub-quality RP which leads to no learning anywhere on the spectrum.

Matt posted this on the other thread and personally, I feel like it could work. The only issue I see with it is people that don't want to be part of a nation crying about how they can't make a 7 person village off the main road.

So I am voting 4.0 and here is why. The map might suck, but the state of the world in RP is pretty good right now. I genuinely have had a pretty good time the last couple of days RP'ing since I returned. A transition in the near future would just cause chaos. You start doing map transitions and it will cause power struggles between nations because everyone has to start over from the beginning once again. We will most definitely need 5.0 eventually but the state of things in 4.0 RP'ly are not that bad.

That is why I'm voting for 4.0; it's obvious we need 5.0 in the future, but not in the near future. Letting things sizzle on this map for a while longer could be good for us. I would rather more problems be revealed and handled now than carry all our luggage over to 5.0 and have basically all the same problems we had as before. The staff are already probably planning things for 5.0 (which I want to note the sheer amount of staff going in and out is something else that needs to balance itself out right now) so I am just going to be patient and let them do their thing. Additionally, making them focus on 5.0 will take away significant ability to help with current issues. The issues that are coming up don't need to be swept under the rug in anticipation for a new map, and trying to rush another map will just land us in the same hole we are already in.

I personally would want 5.0 looking somewhat similar to Anthos. Anthos was great and my first starting map as a player. No matter where I went, I could find Rp at nearly any time. I was also apart of the gang wars in Abresi, something I wish I could see here in Athera. But since there are so many different Nexus plots, the rp is scattered across the map.

I say we have two real options.

We could start the development of a new map with fewer nexus plots and less mechanics to keep that nice rp feeling.

or

We could have either an antag. or some server-wide event that eradicated some nexus plots/ cities. This would create a stronger demand for rp (main) cities to be slightly more spread out across the map, as well as being protected from said antag/event.

It gets rid of some plots and player homes, which i would understand could be an issue, but don't forget this is a rp server. tragedies happen to produce rp and new stories. say, some eclipse occurs that causes creatures of the night to rise and stay on the map through day/night cycles without burning. they would attack nexus plots, getting rid of close cities, and would allow for some groups (such as the clerical order, druids, or marked men) to take action, gain players, and ultimately bring an entire new form of rp events to the server.

It could even be some clash between planes that cause creatures to spill into the map, big and small. whatever floats the playerbase's boat.

Whatever we may choose to do, it needs to be planned out. a map would be too long for the playerbase to wait. an event, however, could help develop more rp for active players, and to draw in those being inactive.

Well, from what I heard from my talk with 3/4 current admins, they aren't looking for a new map, and believe that they can make the current map last for quite a while longer.

Meanwhile, I have a working formula for how to make a good, rp driven map with other aspects that are very attractive, that I proposed and could help improve the server a bit, but they weren't too keen on any kind of change.

I already have a test map lotc could just make a multiverse port to, testing certain ideas, along with console stuff that are 90% done and only need to be sent over, with a week of work (extreme tops) for it to be working completely.

P.S. Make that 5/6 of the last admins (lol sky)

118 votes and the clear majority sits there, well there is the excuse that not everyone hops on and votes, so how about this. After every role-play incident, link them this and after anyone mentions Lord of the Craft in Skype, link them this. After a while, we should hit 200 votes and I don't see how it could be ignored then, though I'll be doing my part of the spreading and it's only fair as I've got the most experience, :)

I think I would be happier with a small 1-2 month temp map, It'd feel wrong going straight towards a next major map. But I think we can all agree that we shouldn't stay on this map.

So long as we don't end up staying on this map, or staying on the temp map for 6 months.

at least ~87% could agree to that :/ *

Whenever a new map comes out, I hope it's got the vastness of Asulon. Give us some fast travels to get to villages and cities, but otherwise exploring is sick as FRICK.

Too bad I got official confirmation that they couldn't give a rats arse whether the entire server wanted a new map, that they have their own agenda and they're going to stick to their guns. Everyone here is wasting their time, and I'm going to learn from this, and not waste any further time here. My only goal coming back was to be of help to LotC one last time.

Tis a shame :/

No one could ever be more right, I'd recommend taking the ladder.
