The Slaughter Of Salvus

Two things stood out as obvious in the snowy North of Vailor. That Salvus was weak, and that only through the crucible of steel could it be made stronger.

Day passed after day, and with the exception of one, the cities of Vailor grew. House by house, brick by brick. Only Salvus did not, with decrepit walls and a massive structure meant to serve as a monument to enlightenment, but only epitomized disregard.

And so, in these ruins and hovels, action was taken.

Action against the inept and the negligent. Against those to blame for the state's failure.

In the city's center, they rallied. The Consul of Salvus, a man by the name of Silv'ar, watched as the peacekeepers were supplemented by outsiders, all there for the investigation of a supposed monolith outside the city - or so was claimed.

Soon after, they marched. The man in red leading the Consul and his Sentinel from their city, and to their doom. Behind them followed a dozen men and women, with sharp blades and intent hearts.

Outside the sight of the city, the party suddenly stopped. The group in the rear fanned out, surrounding the two.

Swords were drawn.

The battle ended the moment it began. The Sentinel was crushed by a Telekinetic's stone, and the Consul slain by his countryman's blade. The assailants, in return, were harmed by nothing more than a dying man's curses.

Chanting in the name of a new Salvus, they returned to the city with high spirits, the likes of which were raised even higher by the sight of the condemned leader himself, David Campos.

Breaking into a sprint, the broken state's Chancellor fled a nation no longer welcoming.

Within the city, the rebellious forces hoisted the head of the Consul in front of the inner city's gates, and the dead man's gaze looked over the soldiers.

"Tonight was Silv'ar. Tomorrow will be Campos."

The man in red shouted to his faithful.

"The Salvus we see today will fall and break. Tomorrow we shall rise to see it anew. Uplifted and unbroken.

Find those loyal that yet remain. Find those of the chamber that yet draw breath. Find them, and end them as we have ended the Consul."

David Campos arches an eyebrow.

"You murdered two people, none else. I don't see how this can be considered a slaughter at all. The Salvian Massacre by the White Rose was a true slaughter, this is a failed attempt to make yourselves look as if you made an accomplishment."

Harallen chuckles lightly before nodding towards those around him as they prepare for what is to come.

This was only the beginning.

Lilyana watches from her window as they cheer in the square, lifting the Consul's head. Her vision suddenly becomes obscured as a man boards up her windows. Ryder runs over to her, gripping her ears as the shrieking of chains and locks wrap themselves around her door.

She pulls Ryder into her lap as she sits against the cold stone walls of her once home, now prison, looking into the empty darkness.

As she coo's to Ryder in an attempt to calm the child, she muses of her thoughts and guilt.

"If only I had said I wanted to leave, if only I hadn't said I wanted to try to change things,  could this have been all avoided? I wanted change, but is blood worth it in the end?"

"Only friend of Salvus," He says, "Is Salvus."

"In time."
